How to Get a Transcript of a Long YouTube Video

A three-minute clip does not need a transcript. A three-hour lecture, podcast, or conference talk absolutely does — that is where reading beats watching by the widest margin. Unfortunately, length is also where YouTube's built-in transcript panel is least reliable.
Why long videos break the built-in panel
YouTube's transcript panel renders only the rows currently in view and swaps them out as you scroll. On a long video that means a manual select-and-copy captures a fraction of the content — you scroll, the top rows unload, and the copy has a hole in the middle. The longer the video, the worse it gets.
The reliable way

- Search it for the term or name you care about rather than reading top to bottom.
