How to Translate a YouTube Transcript Into Another Language

Translating a transcript is one of the highest-value things you can do with one — for language learners, for researchers working across languages, and for anyone who finds the best explanation of a topic happens to be in a language they do not speak. The workflow is simple once you have clean text to start from.
Step one: get the transcript as text
Translation works on text, so the first step is extracting the transcript. Pull the full transcript, ideally without timestamps interleaved — a solid block of prose translates more cleanly than lines broken up by times.
Step two: translate it
Paste the transcript into any capable translator or an AI assistant and ask for the target language. AI assistants have an edge here: you can ask them to preserve meaning and tone rather than doing a literal word-for-word pass, and you can ask follow-up questions about phrases that do not translate neatly.
A note on caption quality
If the source uses YouTube's auto-captions, expect occasional errors — misheard words, missing punctuation — that translation will faithfully carry over. For anything you rely on, spot-check the translated result against the video at the key moments rather than trusting it end to end.
