Unlearned Wisdom by Johnny Chang
0:00In today's episode, we're going to be0:01talking about why you have intrusive0:04thoughts even when your brain doesn't0:05agree with them. The difference between0:07having a thought and believing a0:09thought. And towards the end, we're0:11going to actually be teaching you how to0:13overcome and stop intrusive thoughts0:16from the root. Welcome to another0:18episode on the Unlearned Wisdom podcast0:19with yours truly, Johnny Chang.0:21>> No, no, no. Pastor Johnny Chang.0:23>> Sorry. Sorry. with Pastor Johnny Cheng,0:26where each episode is a gospel centered0:28lesson that you could apply to your life0:30today.0:31>> Wow.0:32>> Hey guys, have you noticed Johnny's0:34memory is sharp. Is sharp. He's hitting0:37those ones intros.0:39>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's0:40>> true.0:41>> Hey, I've been doing the technique and0:42it's working. The one we talked about0:44last week.0:44>> Recall. Recall. Recall. I don't recall0:46what technique.0:47>> Yeah, that's [laughter] you. You haven't0:49been doing it. You're going to get left.0:51>> Is it really working?0:52>> Yes, it's working. Dang.0:53>> I remember I remember what pastor's0:55sermon was on Sunday. I remember what I0:57read about in Psalms loosely.0:59>> I read like Psalms. I don't remember the1:00verses, but I remember what I read.1:03>> Um, also when I'm just like driving in1:05the car and I'll be like, "Oh, what do1:06we talk about in in that like the UTA1:08thing, I just was like bop bop." I1:10remembered everything they said in the1:12meeting.1:12>> Look at that, bro.1:14>> And he You've only been doing that for1:16what, like a couple few days?1:17>> Yeah.1:18>> Sheesh. And there's like this big1:20basically it's like the what's happening1:22right now is is our attention spans are1:24getting completely wiped as we've said1:26before and it's because of um instant1:28gratification. We've lost the idea of1:30delayed gratification allowing your mind1:31to get bored.1:32>> You know it's like the minute that1:34you're have no what's it called?1:36Stimulation. You start to reach for1:38something and your mind panics.1:40>> Facts.1:40>> Like we got to fight to reclaim our1:42attention. That's going to make you a1:43superhum in this next era.1:45even when you're fighting like like1:47trying to recall and you like shoot1:49blanks for example like it still is okay1:52that's actually making your brain like1:54the neurotransators fire and you're just1:56like oh what was it like it's better1:58than sitting there going I'm not even2:00going to try to use my brain like it's2:02like I'm going just you know what I mean2:03it's like trying to like train for a2:04marathon and yeah you may give up like2:0640% of the way it's better than just2:08sitting back and going I'm not going to2:10do the marathon I'm good I'm going to2:11just watch it on TV like it's different2:13right you still get some kind of benefit2:15benefit from even trying to do it, which2:16is really cool. So crazy.2:19>> It's the same thing with like math and2:20stuff. It's very use it or lose it. It's2:22like I used to be able to pull off the2:24craziest equations and now I I look at2:26it and I have no idea. It's like a2:27foreign language because if you don't2:29keep up with it, you just forget.2:31>> Yeah.2:32>> 147 + 332:34>> 12. [laughter]2:36Wow, you're really good at this.2:38>> You're really good at this.2:40>> That's smart.2:41>> What do you mean craziest math problems?2:44What do you mean by that?2:45>> It's just like anything. You use it or2:46lose it. You could do differential2:48calculus, multivariable calculus, doing2:50integral equations2:51>> in your head. I know all just in2:54general. In general, you write it down.2:55You2:55>> memorize a calculus class.2:58>> You know calculus.2:59>> But doesn't that But doesn't isn't that3:01prove that math is just the most3:02worthless subject then?3:04>> No. No. It's cramming for any test. So3:05imagine right before a test, you cram3:07the night before. Yeah. You might be3:08able to pass the test, but then you3:10forget everything a week later versus if3:11you actually study all semester. You you3:14will just know the answers of the test3:15for any subject.3:16>> True.3:17>> I just use math because that's what I3:18remember, but it's that's the3:19[clears throat] easiest one to tell. But3:20it's very use it or lose it. Like3:22>> I bet you used to know all 50 states in3:25order by alphabetical.3:27>> Do you anymore?3:28>> No, but I know all 50 states.3:30>> It's like that with languages, too,3:32though. Like I remember I could speak3:34Mandarin so fluently as a kid and after3:36that I was like I just I think I stopped3:38speaking it like at the age of 12. So I3:40went and got locked up and was like no3:42one's speaking freaking ching chong in3:44here. [laughter]3:47>> He's like no hello [laughter] like what3:50>> the hello I'm here supplies.3:55>> I feel like you get shy when you when3:57when people try to speak Chinese to you.3:59I do because I'm I'm sub subconscious4:01and self-conscious of that. I'm just4:03like, dang, I don't sound fab enough.4:06>> So, it's like when I speak English, I4:07feel like I'm like the hello. But then4:09when I speak Mandarin, I'm like, hey4:11everybody, how you doing everybody?4:12Like, I just It's the opposite, right?4:15>> It's like, dang, I suck. The other day,4:17we went to get uh we went to get and4:20[laughter]4:21>> Sorry, that was really funny. Yeah, the4:24other day we went to get and the servers4:28are obviously Chinese and like she was4:31like explaining to us that like we4:33couldn't get white rice. It would take4:3430 minutes but there was fried rice. It4:36was like a whole confusion thing and4:38we're like me and me me me me me me me4:39me me me me me me me me me me me me me4:39me me me me me me me me me me me me me4:39me me me me me me me me and Esther4:40sitting there like uh wait so there is4:42white rice or there's no fried rice but4:44how is there fried rice but no white4:45rice? And Johnny's sitting there too.4:47Wait, wait. So, wait, 30 minutes or4:49three minutes. Then, dude, it's4:52literally sitting there and she's like4:53trying to explain and then Johnny just4:54switches to Mandarin and she understands4:55it and answers him in 5 seconds. And I'm4:57like, [laughter] you had that the whole4:59time and you just decided to like not5:02just to make this a problem for5:03everybody.5:04>> Hey, it's good for your brain.5:06[laughter]5:07It's codes of any patience.5:10>> He was just like Johnny was like 35:11minutes or 30 minute three. And then he5:13was like sh [laughter]5:15like sh. He was like oh5:19>> exactly like that5:20>> such a waste5:22woman. I [laughter] started singing5:24started singing to him.5:26>> Just a [snorts] rice hat appeared on his5:28head. [laughter]5:30>> So today's episode is about negative5:34selft talk. Have you guys ever had5:36negative selft talk before?5:38>> Nah. My I'm so dumb. I never [laughter]5:41>> I would have never thought of something5:43like that.5:47>> What's Yo, what's negative selft talk? I5:49just think I see myself as like 68 in my5:51mind.5:52>> Yeah, this guy really has no negative5:54selft talk. [laughter]5:55>> Like a real5:56>> there's no such thing as failure. It's5:58just like ah just5:59>> Do you guys think like most of your6:01thoughts are negative or positive?6:04>> Honestly,6:04>> I think more negative.6:05>> Dang. What about you, Midday? I think6:08there was a pivotal shift in my life6:10where was infinitely high and then6:13there's only so there's only so no6:16there's nowhere you can go from the top.6:18Yeah. [laughter]6:19>> You thought that highly of yourself.6:21>> No, I'm just saying like6:23>> he [laughter] did.6:24>> I mean Yeah. I mean yeah to an extent. I6:28mean [laughter]6:30>> hey that Hey ladies and gentlemen,6:32that's called white privilege.6:34[laughter]6:36I mean, I guess like you can always6:37think higher. Like I guess there's6:38there's people who have thought higher6:40of themselves, but I think there was a6:41point where I was like,6:43>> I can do no wrong.6:44>> Damn,6:45>> everything will be fine. I'm smart. I6:47could do whatever.6:48>> What about you? [snorts]6:50>> 90% of the time is negative.6:53>> Negative selft talk, negative thoughts,6:55weird thoughts, crazy thoughts. All of6:57that's negative, I would say. But yeah,6:59it's it's it's kind of wild how like our7:01brain is programmed that way. I feel7:03like, you know, but then some viewers7:05are probably like, "No, I have perfect7:06amazing thoughts." So, it's not for you.7:08Okay. All right. You guys are lucky. But7:10I know so many people who like literally7:12have the worst thoughts all the time.7:15They think like the worst case scenario7:17all the time. Yes. Can I ask you like in7:20your peak7:21>> when you were just like a psychopath,7:24>> what were like the craziest,7:25[clears throat] wildest thoughts that7:26you would like not like suicidal or7:28whatever, but like what are some like7:29things that you're like people would7:31>> Come on, give us7:32>> If I said that, I would be locked up,7:34bro.7:35>> They were bad, bro.7:37>> Give us a7:39plotting. I think my mind was master7:43manipulator7:4424/7 just figuring out scenarios. I7:47would play things in my head and like7:49really live them out. Like it was wild,7:53bro. I would legit live out every single7:56scenario and then you guys ever play7:59basketball or a sport and you become8:01really good at it and you start to see8:03certain things in slow-mo.8:05>> Like when you fight like things are in8:07slow-mo for me, right? Like I'll know8:08when the punch is coming, whatever. It8:10gets like that where I'm like kind of8:12just like it's like a Dave Chappelle8:14scene, you know, when when he's like,8:16did you see the episode where he's like8:18everything's better in slow motion? He's8:20like walking through the club and it's8:22like it was like it was like that but in8:24my brain 24/78:25>> but evil things. [clears throat] Can you8:27give us one?8:29>> Okay. So, so let's say like one time I I8:31I try to like hit a lick, right? I try8:33to rob somebody. And I was thinking of8:35like all of these crazy things that were8:38going to happen. And this was8:40[clears throat] like right before I went8:41and I did what I did. And like I would8:44say 90% of that stuff happened according8:47to my imagination. Like I was following8:50through what I had already thought and8:52planned in my head. And it was just8:54something like crazy though. I I can't8:57say but it was like it was bad8:59essentially. And it was just, you know,9:01uh, um, obviously criminal, but, you9:04know, it ended up with people just9:06getting robbed basically, but in in a9:08way that that like it was so unassuming9:13to them like9:15>> I came and I was like, "Oh, I need9:16help."9:18>> But it wasn't obviously me needing help.9:20I just like cornered them basically. And9:22it was all I was a scumbag for that. But9:24basically, like I took everything from9:26from these people,9:28>> like come up crazy. And I I don't feel9:30like I I don't know. I feel like I had9:32to, but I also feel like I didn't have9:34to. Now, looking back in hindsight, I9:36think it was a part of me that was like,9:39you know, oh, there's like this power to9:41it. You know, anybody who's a jack boy9:43who's ever done it, they understand what9:45I'm saying. Like there's a power to9:46like, man, give me that thing. You know,9:48like that's mine. That right there is9:50pretty crazy. So yeah, it it was more of9:53like I think I was not just chasing the9:56the high of getting the money, but like9:59feeling like in control, you know? That10:02was crazy.10:02>> But you would wake up in the morning and10:04the thoughts that come to your mind is10:06I'm going to hurt somebody and here's10:08exactly how I'm going to do it. I'm10:09going to rob somebody. Here's exactly10:11how I'm going to do it.10:12>> Prior to that, I was always having10:14thoughts of I'm going to die soon. So I10:17would I would play scenarios of how I10:18would die. Would I get shot to death?10:21Will I crash from a plane? Will I walk10:24out and get hit by? Like, I would just10:26think crazy stuff like that all the10:27time. I don't know why my mind would10:30manufacture these things all the time.10:32It was like 90% of the time I was10:34thinking about stuff like this. I'll be10:36sitting there and then I'll like, you10:38know, be eating and and I'll randomly10:40have those thoughts, too. Like, dang,10:41what if this whole place just got10:42sprayed right now? Like, you know, it's10:44like, why would I just think? And I'll10:46say it to my homies. Like, that's why10:47they were like, bro, you're ill. like10:49they would call me that like you're ill,10:50like you're mental, you know? And I'm10:51like, I mean,10:53>> it's true. It's like I I don't know why10:54I would just keep thinking the worst10:56stuff. Some of you guys can probably,10:58you know, when I talk on mainstages and11:00our Discord stages, people are like,11:02"Yo, I think like that, too." And I11:03think what it was was my mind protecting11:05myself [clears throat]11:07>> from what?11:08>> From just If you think the worst, then11:11your your mind thinks like, "Oh, you're11:13not going to be surprised by anything."11:15Like I think I was more scared and11:17fearful of being surprised and not11:19knowing how to be in control. So my mind11:21would think the worst stuff so things11:23wouldn't catch me off guard.11:25>> And so I think that's why I'm so cold11:27even till today. Like like I'll tell11:30stories and people are just like, "Oh11:32no, don't say." And I'm like, "Really?"11:34It's like, "Dang, are you a girl or11:36something?" You know, it's like I don't11:38understand.11:41>> That's what you would do. whatever done11:43that to some of your stories [laughter]11:45>> like no no don't tell me11:47>> yeah you're like no but11:49>> you told me some messed up stories11:50>> yeah but basically I just genuinely like11:54would I think it was just a a it was my11:56mind trying to protect myself which is11:58kind of crazy now that I think about it12:00you know but um [clears throat] I would12:02like beat myself up like why do I have12:03these thoughts what the hell is wrong oh12:05yeah I'm crazy there's something wrong12:06with me for sure there's something wrong12:08with me when really I think my mind was12:10just trying to protect itself It was12:12just trying to go, hey, you've been12:13through some worst things and you've12:15been some really crazy stuff. So, if you12:17just think of the most absurd craziest12:19stuff, you're literally protecting12:21yourself12:22>> even when you were So, obviously like12:24it's experience that and your12:27environment that made your mind think12:29like that. So, would you even remember12:31as a little kid?12:32>> Yes. Even at 5 years old, I would think12:34like crazy stuff like, oh, so in12:37Mandarin there's this thing called la.12:39And what that is is basically like12:41laurona. It's like the the the boogeyman12:44but Chinese version. And so I would12:46literally sit in the hallway or or in12:48Ramona Gardens there's like a hallway.12:50There's a part where like towards the12:52backside there's a there's a like a a12:55bridge in the PJs that goes across into12:58the park. And I would always like be13:00walking near that bridge and I would13:02always be like, "Oh, I'm going to see La13:04Pooza there. I'm going to see like and13:06it would just give me chills." Like I13:07would psych myself out, but then I would13:09be like, if I did that, then it would13:11just be like better that I at least saw13:13it coming. You know what I mean? Then my13:14mind would play tricks cuz then I'd be13:16like, I'll look over there and then I'll13:17pan and it's like right in my face. So13:19I'm like, uh, don't look to the right.13:20Like I just it's like weird stuff. And I13:22was five or six doing this type of13:24stuff, right? So I don't know if it was13:26just a hyperactive nervous system or13:28whatever, but I genuinely would think13:30like why is my brain always having13:32negative things? Why is it always trying13:35to scare itself? Why is it always trying13:37to predict the next step? It's it's just13:39I've I've always been like that from13:41when I could remember. I could remember13:42stuff when I was three years old, four13:44years old and I was always living in13:46constant fight or flight or flight mode13:48like all the time. All the time it was13:50crazy.13:51>> Do you remember the first time you had13:53or do you remember positive thoughts and13:55like let's say you experienced happiness13:58>> or something like that like13:59>> dude that's so crazy. There's only few14:02occasions that I remember and they were14:04always intertwined with negative things.14:07Like for example, we would like jump14:10into people's pools or like the14:11community pool and we'd sneak in at14:13night time. And obviously that was14:15negative cuz we're doing stuff that's14:16like, you know, trespassing and14:18whatever, but those were the funnest14:20times. And so my thrills was like always14:23somewhat tied to negative things. I14:27genuinely14:29can't remember a time where I had fun14:31that wasn't negative. Whether it was14:34stealing stuff, whether it was like14:36selling Pokemon cards, but like14:38literally scheming, like going to steal14:40the Pokemon cards, getting a glue gun,14:43using a little tweezer, putting gloves14:45on, pulling out the stuff, putting like14:47pulling out the the the the what is it?14:49holographic card and then reselling it14:52and then selling it to kids for like a14:54third of the price, half the price. And14:56they're like, "Really?" I'm like,14:57"Yeah." And I'd lie to them like, "Oh14:59yeah, my uncle owns a liquor store and15:01he just he gave these to me. You want15:02them?" And kids would just And I'm15:04young. I'm like seven, hustling this15:06type of stuff. And I'm like, "What the15:08hell is wrong with me?" And and I15:10wouldn't feel bad. I would go and I15:11would eat and everything I gained was15:13always from manipulation or negativity15:16or, you know, stuff like that. And I15:18just didn't know how to be like a15:20straight edge as a kid. And I still15:22don't understand till this day whether15:24it's the environment because there's15:25kids in my neighborhood that wasn't like15:27that. There's kids when I would steal15:28and they would be like, "Oo, why are you15:30doing that?" I'm like, "Shut up.15:32>> Shut up, stupid." Right? And I would15:34like pay other kids to like hit licks15:35for me. I'll be like, "Look, if you15:37steal this, I'll give you this." And15:38then I'll go and I'll take all the15:40mechanical pencils and sell them and15:41make more than what I gave the kid. And15:43it's like it's always been like that.15:45Even my own brother, we're in the same15:46household. And I would steal from my dad15:48and he'd be like, "No, Johnny, don't."15:50And I'd be like, "Man, forget this guy,15:52dude. Like, he doesn't even care about15:53us." And he's like, "No, that's dad. We15:55can't." I'm like, "Man, you better not15:58snitch on me." Like, I was just bad,15:59bro.16:00>> What the hell is wrong with me? And I can't wait16:49to share it with you guys.16:50>> Yeah. So, why does your brain16:51manufacture thoughts that you don't16:53necessarily agree with?16:56>> I think because number one, it's proof16:59that we're in a fallen world. So, we're17:01in this place where there is17:03environments that obviously affect17:05certain things. And I just think that as17:07human beings, we're naturally again17:10trying to protect ourselves, right? And17:11so if you look at 2 Corinthians 4:4, it17:14says, "In whom the God of this world has17:17blinded the minds of them which believe17:19not, lest the light of the glorious17:20gospel of Christ who is in the image of17:22God should shine unto them." So the17:26thing about it is God uh of this world,17:29which is Satan, blinds our mind. And so17:32why doesn't he blind our eyes or blind17:34us in general? He uses our mind and it's17:37because that's his tactic like he can17:39only suggest certain things to you and17:41then if it pops up in your brain and you17:43accept it as your own thoughts like I17:45did as a kid then you'll act according17:47to those thoughts right and so he it's17:50not really you like I'm not saying every17:52single thought is from Satan okay17:54obviously like I don't want to put17:55people in fear but you have to be aware17:58that most thoughts are suggestions it's18:00like should I do this today no I should18:02do this no I'm I'm depressed I'm lonely18:04I'm this I'm that not everyone who has a18:06suicidal thought follows through with18:07it, right? Because there's a difference18:09between accepting one and believing one,18:11right? And so a lot of people they18:13accept it. Some people understand that18:15it's just a thought. Other people are18:17like, "No, this is my identity. I'm18:19having this. This is something that's18:20part of me and then they follow through18:22with it, you know. So having a being in18:24the in in the world and being just a18:27sinner as we teach in Christianity,18:30you're imperfect. So, a imperfect person18:32will have imperfect thoughts and that's18:35just how it is. Like when I'm praying or18:37even when I'm just driving, like forget18:39all the Christian stuff. When I'm18:40driving, there's times even till this18:42day where I'm like, "Dang, what would I18:44do if I ran my like R8 into this18:46freaking other car right now?" Like,18:48wouldn't it be like crazy if I just18:50didn't I just let go of the brake and18:52just let go at 80 miles per hour18:54straight into somebody's like rear end?18:55It's like I would think like that. And18:57I'm like, why do I have that? And then I18:59realize, oh, it's a suggestion. But some19:01people literally take that as their19:03identity. They'll they'll they'll do19:04that. And it's, if you guys know the19:06Bible, it starts the fall of man19:09literally starts from a thought. So in19:11Genesis chapter 3, before even Satan19:14came to the picture in Genesis 2, Adam19:17and Eve were only listening to one19:19thought, which was God. It was only his19:21voice. It wasn't until they came and the19:24the the the snake, which we call19:26nakashim, right? the the the the19:28serpent, he comes in, which is Satan,19:30and he suggests something. All he does19:32is he just goes, "Are you sure that's19:34what God said?" Like, "No, truthfully,19:37if you eat this, you will become like19:39God, knowing good and evil." Again,19:41another foreign voice came in and that's19:43when they fell, right? And so, it's the19:45same tactic today. You guys have to just19:47be cautious, right? Where is your your19:51thoughts coming from? Is your thoughts,19:53you know, just randomly popping up? Does19:55that mean that it's from God or from19:57Satan? You do have to think about these19:58things.19:59>> Something you said right there, you're20:00like, "Not everything is the devil."20:01Right. So, how do you know if your20:03negative thoughts are spiritual warfare20:06or just bad mental habits?20:08>> I think it can be both. It can be20:10spiritual warfare and bad mental habits,20:13right? It's a mixture of two because20:14many times like all things that are20:16spiritual warfare would I would say is20:18is it it's opposing forces. It's good20:22principles and bad principles fighting20:24each other, right? And so if you are,20:26you know, I guess like sleepd deprived,20:29right?20:30>> All of that ties into you're h you20:32having a weaker spirit. If you're sleepd20:34deprived, you're not praying as much,20:36then weakens the spirit. If you're20:38sleepd deprived or you're not eating as20:40healthy, then you're again like your you20:42have brain fog. This happened to me20:43yesterday. I was like I ate some uh um20:47popcorn chicken, right? And it was like20:48fried popcorn chicken. I had a little20:50bit of boba and I was like, "Dang, this20:52is like fire."20:53>> You're lying. You did not have a little20:54bit of boba. You had a lot of bit of20:56boba.20:56>> Okay. I had I had a a 16 ounce boba.21:00Okay. [laughter] All right. It wasn't 3221:01oz. I was like 32 self-control 16.21:05Anyways, I had that and then I had to21:07read the book. So, every day at a21:09certain time I read my book and read it21:11for 15 minutes. I literally sat there21:13and I couldn't get anything. I was21:15trying to focus, but because the the21:18stuff was so bad, I was getting like21:19food coma, the sugar rush, I was21:22crashing. And I'm like, "Dude, why?"21:24Like, I'm falling asleep and it's only21:2615 minutes I'm reading this book. And I21:27felt like I couldn't recall anything.21:29Which is crazy though is after like 1521:31minutes, I sat there and I was like,21:33"All right, let me just close the book21:35and let me try." And I'm fighting21:36fighting fighting. Like maybe 5 minutes21:38later, I'm starting to recall stuff21:39again, right? And so what's really21:41amazing is like your brain obviously,21:42not to go too much on a tangent, it it21:45can bounce back from certain things even21:46if you don't feel like it. But it did21:49feel like I wasn't able to recall as21:51much as if I didn't if I just ate21:53healthy and I had good energy. I think21:55my focus wouldn't have been affected and21:58then therefore like I wouldn't feel the22:00way that I felt and then you know it22:02wouldn't feel so grueling. In the same22:03way, if you're sitting here and you're22:05like trying to take care, you know, you22:07have bad uh health, right? Whether it's22:10mental, physical, emotional, then how22:12are you going to be able to fight when22:14God when Satan, God of this world is22:16coming straight to you and like22:18attacking you fully? There's just no way22:20you're going to be depressed and you're22:21going to be trying to fight back this22:22depression on top of all of these22:24negative thoughts. It's so much stuff22:26and he just he just literally overwhelms22:28all of us, right? So, uh, when it comes22:30to answer the question, when it comes22:32down to how do you know if a thought is,22:35you know, essentially from God, uh, or22:37if it's something that is from the22:39enemy, um, in in itself, that could be22:42spiritual warfare. It's like, how do you22:44know, right? It's like you're in22:45between. Well, it's very simple. The22:48thoughts that you have that are from God22:49will always push you towards God. the22:51thoughts that you, you know, have that22:54don't push you towards God, push you22:56towards desire, flesh, I don't know,22:58lust, whatever. Obviously, those things23:00are going to come from Satan. So, you23:02have to be able to like sit and kind of23:05think about your thoughts, not in like a23:06ruminating way, but you have to think23:08like, okay, am I following my thoughts23:12and these thoughts, are they pushing me23:13to God? And if or am I not trusting my23:16thoughts and they're pushing me away23:17from from from Satan and like into God,23:20right? So those are things that you have23:22to really think about.23:23>> Is there a spiritual explanation behind23:25like why certain people have different23:28levels of like mischief? Like if there's23:30like let's take it at the most basic23:32level like like you're saying like doing23:34a prank in school. It's like some people23:36don't even have that thought23:37>> versus while other kids would think23:39that's hilarious.23:40>> And then there's another level to the23:41kid who will actually go do it and act23:44on their thought.23:44>> Yeah.23:45>> And then and then the thoughts get23:46worse. Then there's people who would23:47think of driving their car off the road.23:49Then there's someone who would actually23:50do it. Yeah. Then there's someone who23:52would think of stabbing someone.23:53>> Yeah.23:53>> And then there's the person who would23:54actually do it. I'm like wondering if23:56there's like a spiritual explanation or23:58biblical explanation but behind why24:00certain people receive different levels24:02of mischievous thoughts24:03>> and act upon it accordingly.24:05>> It honestly the way the Bible explains24:07it is how much a person trusts24:09themselves.24:10>> It's how much a person is going to sit24:12there and go24:14this thought's mine or I don't know this24:17is a weird thought. That's the that's24:19the differentiating thing, right? So24:21like for me in my experience when I was24:23thinking about, you know, like the scary24:25things like I never thought24:27>> these aren't my thoughts. I always24:29thought these are all my thoughts.24:31Whereas certain people who don't do24:33certain things, they'll catch themselves24:35like they'll even say it like yo, I24:37don't know why I'm thinking of weird24:39stuff. those people they usually don't24:41follow themselves because they can tell24:43at least by grace I would say that oh24:45this isn't a thought that that would24:47norm this isn't me right but then there24:50are people who are like oh I want to do24:52that and this thought they're just more24:54susceptible to it so I would say it24:56comes down to people who are uh how much24:59they trust and believe in themselves25:00proverbs says the more you trust25:03yourself the more foolish you are25:05essentially right it says a fool trusts25:07in man including himself A wise person25:10leans on God, right? And so25:12[clears throat] I I noticed that every25:13single person that's was ever in prison25:16or any person that was ever depressed or25:18saw demons were people that highly25:21trusted themselves.25:23>> Like I have I have a homie, right, who I25:25grew up with. And in the projects, we25:27literally like I I had thoughts of I'll25:30do whatever I want. And this kid when we25:33went to go, you know, try like I was25:35walking and there was a drug dealer and25:36he was like, "Bro, you want to try25:38this?" And it was like a joint that was25:40super sticky. It was laced with stuff.25:42Obvious. I didn't know that. I was a kid25:44and I was like, "Hell yeah, give it to25:45me." Cuz I thought again, if I do this,25:47doing drugs means you're cool, you know,25:49like obviously like, you know, it's25:51everyone's doing it in there. It just25:52looks like you're you're an adult.25:53You're a kid. You want to be an adult.25:55So, you want to you know, uh, relate to25:57these people. But my friend was25:59literally like, "Johnny, I I don't want26:02to do this. What if I get caught? What26:03if my mom finds out? What if I get a I'm26:05like, "What the hell are you even saying26:07right now?" Like, "Why are you even26:09thinking like that? You You're making me26:10look bad. You're a freaking weenie." I26:12remember calling him, "You're a weenie,26:13bro." Which, you know, it's like a26:14little girl. And then he's like, "No,26:16I'm good, man." And then we just like26:18laughed at him and he like left. But he26:20went on to just be more successful than26:22me. And it was solely because he sat26:24there and he didn't trust him. So he's26:26like, "Bro, I don't know if I'll get26:27addicted. I don't know if my mom will26:29catch me and beat the hell out of me.26:31Like, I'm cool, man." And and it was26:33just wisdom at the end of the day. So26:35there are people who are more26:36susceptible. And I would say nine times26:38out of 10, it's because they trust26:40themselves. It the more you trust26:42yourself, the more it's going to26:43correlate with what you accept and how26:46you follow through with it, right? And26:48that's why the world is so big on26:49believe in yourself, trust in yourself.26:52Because man, when I trusted myself so26:54heavily, more than any of these kids26:56around, I lived more miserable than26:59everybody around me. Like when I look27:01back, like there are only a select few27:03of my friends who were obviously with27:05the business. Like, but the majority of27:07kids that I either went to even27:09continuation school with or, you know,27:12went to like middle school with, they27:14all went on to live better lives. They27:16didn't end up as gang members. Even27:17though there was gang, like in our era,27:19gang banging era was crazy. Everybody27:20was baggy pants, big old, you know, long27:23belts and W and S and whatever they had27:26on their belt, their initials, Cortez is27:29[clears throat]27:30it swept the world, man. During that27:31time, Tupac, Biggie, all them was a27:33gangster rap was a thing. And but not27:36everybody ended up dying on the streets.27:38Not everybody ended up joining hoods.27:40Not everyone ruined their lives. Some of27:42these people I know now are like, "Dang,27:43you're you always stood solid. you have27:46like, you know, multiple investments,27:48you have multiple assets, you grow up in27:49the hood, and now you're out the hood.27:51You got your parents out the hood. So,27:53again, it comes down to really like the27:55simplest term is like you trusting27:59yourself, following yourself, and that's28:01going to affect how miserable you're28:03going to be.28:05So, you're using the example of the guy28:07that chose not to quote unquote28:09[clears throat] trusted his thoughts,28:10but he trusted his good thoughts of I'm28:12going to work hard, go to school, and28:15invest and go to college.28:18>> No,28:18>> that that I don't think so.28:20>> But you don't know him. You're not in28:21his right.28:21>> I I do know him. I asked him.28:23>> He's like, "That guy is me." Tears off28:25his hat.28:25>> He He comes into my lives time to time,28:28but I have conversations with him. He he28:31legit just told me like, "Bro, I28:33literally was afraid. Like, I didn't28:36know whether or not I didn't know myself28:39clearly." That's not I mean, you could28:42say that's a good thought, but he didn't28:43know. He's like, "Bro, I didn't I just28:45didn't know." And then obviously he28:46received grace, right? Which we're we28:48have to, you know, factor that in. But I28:50just he didn't do what I did. Like I28:53literally trusted every single thing28:55from me. I thought everything from me28:57was amazing. Like how Aaron was like, I29:00was the top top. Like I thought my top29:01my my thoughts were like God. Legit. I29:04thought I was my own. I was so big. My29:06saying when I was younger was you're the29:08master of your own destiny. That's that29:10was my saying. My go-to was I believe29:12that you're the master of your29:13>> I used to believe that. I'm saying I29:15don't say I I said I believed. I29:17believed.29:18>> Get him out.29:18>> I thought you said I believe that too.29:20>> No, I said I believed it. Like you know29:22cuz I believed in manifestation which29:24was also funny cuz your story of you29:26literally manifested evil. you would29:28think scenarios and then make it happen29:29in real life. I'm like,29:31>> you probably could have been29:32>> Well, manifestation is from the Bible. A29:34lot of people don't know that. They just29:35take stuff out, right? So, even through29:38this book, I was reading it. I was like,29:39dude, there's so much wisdom, but they29:42just strip Jesus out of everything. They29:44strip God. What he's talking about is29:46found in Proverbs and Ecclesiastes. And29:48I was like, what the So, he was saying29:50basically that the brain is rigid. It29:52gets stuck in this way and it's29:56>> not Jeremy. This is very smooth.29:58>> But now I forgot what I was saying.30:00>> No, you're saying how the stripped30:01manifestation and also even the30:03rigidness of the brain was.30:04>> Yeah. So a lot of times where it's30:06called like brain mapping where your30:08your your30:09brain will kind of get stuck in this30:11rigid mode. And in the book it says that30:14your brain can train itself to make it30:16sicker like it can make itself sicker30:18>> like believe that. Yeah.30:23And it talks about it in Proverbs where30:24it's like, you know, illnesses heal, but30:27who can come back and bounce back from a30:30broken spirit? So, [snorts] it's like30:31your mind is like, I suck. I suck. I And30:34literally, your mind will stay like30:35that. And it's like it's a way that30:38you're it's like surviving, but it's30:39self-sabotage at the end of the day,30:41right? I'm like, yo, if this guy knew30:44Ecclesiastes or Proverbs, he would30:46literally be like mind blown, too. I30:47don't know if he's a believer, but I'm30:49like, man, this is crazy. So,30:51[clears throat]30:52to the point of why he did, you know,30:55people trust their thoughts. No, I think30:56at the end of the day, people just they30:58go against the norm, right? That's not31:01normal to be in an area where all of31:03this is influential. You're you're31:05you're in the hood. Everybody's doing31:07it. The norm is not not to do it. The31:10norm is to do it. And so, he was like,31:12"Nah, I'm not going to do that." And31:14everyone clowned him. We clowned him.31:16man, I'm his homie homie. And I would I31:18slept over his house, did all that. He31:20slept over my house31:21>> and [snorts] he was just like, "Oh, I'm31:22good." And he just walked off.31:24>> Like I'm sure he thought, "Dude, you're31:26not my friend. Like, how are you going31:27to make me, you know, disrespect me in31:29front of these people? I don't want to31:30kick it with you anymore." But he was31:32like, he just like pushed that to the31:35side.31:35>> But I'm saying, what do you say to the31:37person that says, "I had I trusted my31:39good thoughts and look at where it got31:40me." Jonathan Chang,31:42>> grace. You receive grace. I'm not saying31:45that every single thought that again is31:47is going to be evil. Sure, there are31:49thing. But can you get there without31:51grace? That's when is your grace going31:54to run out? I mean, it doesn't run out,31:55but it's like when is your blessing31:57going to is it always going to be like31:58that? There's I know for every person32:00that's trusted themselves and made it,32:02there are thousands and millions of32:04other people that trusted themselves and32:05didn't make it, right? And it's like32:07it's net negative. That's why those32:09people sell those motivational speakers.32:11There's not a lot of them, right?32:12There's I mean there's a lot but in32:14terms of the population there's one32:15David Gogggins like it's like man who's32:18going to lift the boats and it's like32:19right but how many people do what he32:21does they they can't right it's like32:22because that's that that I guess anomaly32:26versus like how many people are32:28depressed how many people are lazy how32:30many people are you know what I'm saying32:32like sad and miserable way more than32:34people who are happy I'll tell you that32:35much so again people I think Satan32:38highlight he's a spotlighter he32:40spotlights everything on that one like,32:43"Oh, look at him. You guys can be like32:44him." And as you're comparing, you're32:47losing hope. You're losing happiness.32:49You're losing peace. You're losing time.32:51And you're like mad cuz you're like,32:53"Why can't I do this?" And you literally32:55almost have to train your brain32:58[clears throat] to to to like trick32:59yourself for many wins. You know, I see33:02a lot of people do it. No disrespect,33:03but there's a lot of MLM people who do33:05that. They'll put like hundreds of33:07thousands of like you know dollars into33:09it and then they'll make 500 I'll be33:11like I made 500 in that way and it's33:13like yeah but how much did you put into33:15it though right and so that's what Satan33:17does he makes you waste your time legit33:20whether it's rumination sitting there33:22just thinking about thoughts and like33:23playing stuff back and playing these33:25mental loops or sitting there just33:27negative selft talk oh you suck what's33:28wrong with you you're horrible you got33:29to do better all right let me try and do33:31better this vicious cycle of like trying33:33to do better and falling trying trying33:35to do better in falling trying to do and33:36then you know it's I see this with33:38people who have multiple ideas there's33:41always 10% here 10% here 10% here never33:43100% in something and then 10 years goes33:46by and they're just like dang I33:47literally wasted all my time had all33:49these ideas of starting this business33:51and starting that business and doing33:52this business and nothing's working out33:54for them and it's not even like they33:56don't have opportunities they literally33:58just like they overlook the34:00opportunities and like sit down and34:01hunker down and spend 100% into this34:04they're they're rather like, "Ah, this34:05is too much. I'm just going to go and34:06like find other things that will make me34:10more money quicker," basically. And they34:12they they literally throw away and34:14fumble stuff. It's crazy how many people34:16I know that I've mentored who will tell34:18me in their 50s, "Man, I had a perfect34:21opportunity at 28 years old, 30 years34:23old, 32 years old, 34 years old, and be34:26like, yeah, I just I just wanted to do34:29real estate, man. I just wanted to do34:30this. I wanted to do that." And I just I34:32lost it all. And I'm like, dang, it's34:34it's horrible.34:36>> What do you say? Like, how would you34:38help the person where the thoughts are34:40in like incessant, right? They're like,34:42they know it's negative, but they I just34:44can't stop it, Johnny. It just comes in34:45my head. Yeah.34:46>> And it happens every day. And I've tried34:48everything. I've read the Bible. I've34:50prayed. I've tried to do everything you34:51say. I know it's not my thoughts, but it34:53just keeps coming every day.34:55>> You have to know the difference between34:56a thought, like having a thought and34:58believing in a thought, right? thoughts35:00like thoughts kind of like visit and and35:03I would say belief like moves in.35:06>> So when you believe your thought, you're35:08like literally creating a space for it35:10to shape you, right? Cuz a lot of people35:13say you are you're you're not your35:15thoughts. But some people literally make35:17their thoughts them like, "Oh, I had35:19this crazy thought. How can I think of35:21that's who I am now?" And they literally35:23agree with it. Temptation comes, guys.35:26Intrusive thoughts come. That's why35:27they're called intr they're intruders.35:29They come in. But imagine some some, you35:32know, random guy robber comes in and35:34you're like, "Oh, stay here. Make your35:36bed here." Like it's crazy. Like you you35:39would never do that. But we do that with35:40our thoughts, right? We sit there and35:42our thoughts are like, "Depression comes35:44and it visits us and we're like, "Oh35:46yeah, I'm depressed." Anxiety comes and35:48you're like, "Yes, this is my anxiety. I35:50can't get rid of it." and you literally35:51create a bed for it and a home for it35:53and you allow it to come in and ruin35:56you. Basically,35:57>> let's say there's things in the physical35:59world that confirm that thought. And I'm36:00going to make this up. Like, let's say36:03somebody calls you ugly or stupid,36:06right? And then you do things in your36:08life where people are like, "So stupid36:10of you, right?" Or you try to talk to36:13women and they're just like, you hear36:16from other people, "Ah, he's not that36:17good-looking. He's pretty ugly. Like, I36:18would never date him."36:19>> Yeah. at the no matter how hard you try,36:22you're like, I'm not ugly and I know I'm36:24smart, but everybody else is telling the36:27physical world is like,36:29>> but facts are that's a fact. So facts36:31are facts, right? For example, like if a36:33person is not good-looking, then they're36:35not good-looking, right? It just36:36happens. I mean, you know, I'm not36:38saying you're you guys are not36:39good-looking, but it's like if you're36:41not good-looking, that's okay. If if36:43someone comes to me and they go, you're36:44you're short, right? And I'm short.36:48That's not that's not a thought. Like36:50you could you could confirm that like36:51you're saying, right? A thought is36:53something that it's imaginary. It's like36:56wait, what do you So, for example,36:58anxiety, right? Anxiety is just you36:59trying to predict the future 90% of the37:01time because it's not even something37:03that's happening, but you're trying to37:05control something you can't control in37:06the future usually. Like most people37:08have anxiety about their future, right?37:10Like, oh my gosh, like I don't have37:12enough money right now. What happens in37:13five years? And why am I able to send my37:15kids to college? And again, this is 537:18years later. You don't know what's going37:19to happen, but you're already like37:21trying to like play that in your mind.37:23That's not a fact. So there are certain37:25facts. Yes. And you know, but thoughts37:28are thoughts, right? You have to37:29differentiate between the two. So if I'm37:32a person who's, you know, unqualified,37:34then I shouldn't get mad. If the truth37:36is I'm not qualified for the job, what's37:38the next steps to get qualified? But37:41people stay stuck in that. So, I would37:43argue the the opposite end when someone37:45comes and goes, you know, in [snorts]37:47your example, oh, yeah, you're you're37:49not good-looking. You're stupid. Right?37:51And then you go, no, I'm smart. I'm37:53that's a thought. Do you understand what37:55I'm saying? Like, oh, yeah, like I'm37:57smart. I got to it's like positive.37:58You're trying to talk to yourself38:00positively, but you also have to be38:02honest with yourself, too. You have to38:04know, okay, I struggle here. I lack38:06here. I mess up here. Now, most people38:08and most of the population is not,38:10they're not okay with that. They rather38:12sit there and lie to themselves and have38:14an uncomfortable and predictable like38:17they want a predictable lie, right? Than38:19like an uncomfortable truth essentially.38:22That's just how the world has become,38:24>> right? And that's that's just part of38:26it, you know? So,38:27>> it's okay that you're ugly.38:29>> Just38:30>> Yeah. Like George said it. He was like,38:31"I'll get to the ugly people later." Do38:34you remember that? Was like38:35>> I know a guy that had no comeliness.38:38[laughter]38:40It was Jesus.38:43>> I'm [snorts] not ugly.38:44>> Okay. Well, what if it's just38:45>> I'm going to start bone smashing because38:46of you guys.38:47>> What if it's just an opinion, though?38:48Because because some some things are38:51opinions, some are facts.38:52>> No, you're ugly. That's a fact. We both38:54agree.38:55>> Okay. But someone out there might38:58disagree with that fact, right?39:01>> Comments. Just be honest with them.39:02>> All right. Facts are facts. My ugliness39:04is a fact. But if we're talking about39:06straight up opinions, like Jeremy is39:09funny, no fact there, right? I didn't39:11hear any facts. [laughter]39:13>> So I'm just curious like then where do39:16you where do you39:17>> trust your thoughts the world?39:19>> So there's obviously like practical39:21thoughts and things like that that you39:22have to follow, right? What most people39:25think and what they don't understand is39:26when I sit there and I go distrust your39:29thoughts, right? There are people39:31literally who are like, "Okay." So, if39:34I'm sitting here and I got to wipe my39:37butt, right? And they think I would39:40literally be like, "No, don't wipe it39:41north to south, east to west. Stay39:44crusty. Stay crusty, my friends. Have a39:46crusty booty." Like, no. Obviously,39:48there are practical thoughts. Do I got39:50to go pick up my kids or not? No. God39:52will raise my children. Just leave them39:53there. It's like, no, that's not what39:54I'm saying.39:55>> [snorts]39:55>> I'm saying when it comes down to right39:59your thoughts versus the word of God40:01that is something that you have to get40:02rid of40:03>> and it comes down to self-sabotaging40:05guys we know what sabotages us we know40:07when we have those thoughts of like dang40:09I'm nothing I'm horrible I you can't40:12trust those thoughts even if it's not40:14about God and it is against what God is40:16saying God is saying you're a new40:17creature I will help you always I will40:18make all your crooked paths straight but40:20if you're sitting here and you're like40:22nah God's not going to help me look at40:24the situation look this, look at that.40:25That's when you have to deny your40:26thoughts,40:27>> right? It's okay to acknowledge them.40:29Yes, right now I don't have money, but40:31that doesn't mean God is not God created40:33money. How can he not help me? Yeah,40:35right now my kids are not listening to40:36me, but can God not make them listen to40:38me? That's the things you guys have to40:40consider. It's not just, well, it's40:43facts. Look, they're not listening,40:45right? It's like, so they're never going40:46to listen. It's like, that's not true40:47either. All of us didn't listen. Like40:50there's times where even the most best40:53kid was defiant in some point in life40:55but bounce back from it. Like it's not40:58as bad as what we think it is. But a lot40:59of people they tend to take things a41:02little bit too literal when we say41:04distrust your thoughts. What's the41:06difference between a thought and41:07opinion? An opinion is an opinion right?41:09Thoughts are something that I mean uh41:11facts are you know things that you you41:13you can prove obviously. So yes there is41:16facts in our our eyes. There are facts41:19that are subjective to us. Even truth41:21sometimes can be relative and subjective41:23to certain people. But when it comes to41:25the word of God, that's the absolute41:27truth, at least for believers. So, are41:29you going to trust the word of God? Are41:31you going to trust the depression that41:33goes against the word of God and says,41:34"I'm depressed and I'm sad and I'm41:35lonely and God's not helping me right41:37now right right now. God's not listening41:39to my prayers. God's not, you know what41:41I mean, like giving me a fat bank41:42account. He's not going to provide for41:44me." Like, you have to make a decision.41:46At the end of the day, we do have free41:48will and we're able to make a decision,41:50right? Not everyone who has cancer is41:52defeated. I know some people who have41:54cancer and be like, "You know what? This41:55is my chance to meet God." And I'm like,41:57"Dang, you got crazy faith." And there's41:59people who have cancer who are like,42:01"I'm defeated. I'm dead." They literally42:03start to like deteriorate because their42:05brain is like, "It's over for me." And42:07then there's some people that don't even42:09believe they have cancer when they have42:10cancer. Like old Korean people. No, very42:13good. These are okay. No, you lie. You42:16do not have to lie to me. Like there's42:18that. There's old Asian people like,42:19"Oh, I'm fine. I just drink some herbal42:21tea." Like, "What the hell, bro? You got42:22cancer, bro." Like, but there's all42:24kinds of people, but the heart posture42:27has to be what is it? Am I going to42:28trust the word of God or am I going to42:30trust myself? Am I going to trust my42:31doctor? Am I going to trust myself? I42:33mean, there's so many different levels42:34to this obviously, but yeah.42:36>> Then give us the practical, right? The42:39thought comes into my head and it's so42:40strong and it's negative. How do I42:42defeat it? How do I defeat negative42:44intrusive thoughts?42:46>> First and foremost, you have to42:48recognize that it's not your42:49responsibility to fight them.42:52That's it. The end of the podcast. See42:54you guys later.42:55>> It is not your responsibility42:58to fight your thoughts.43:01What? Why? Why am I saying that? Why43:02don't you think about that, Jeremy? Why43:04would I say something like that?43:05>> Because it's God's job. [laughter]43:09>> I'm right.43:09>> How is he going to fight though? What do43:10you mean? I have to make a decision. and43:11I have to go there and my that's how43:13people are right43:14>> you have to your only responsibility is43:16to take your thoughts to God43:18>> it literally says in the Bible 243:20Corinthians 10:5 take every thought43:21captive and bring it to the obedience of43:23Christ is logos the word that was made43:26flesh so your job is to sit there and43:29let's say you have a negative thought43:31fly in you're stupid okay does the Bible43:35say that no I'm made in the image of God43:37I'm a new creature God is my strength43:40God is my wisdom God is my power. So,43:42which thought am I going to trust?43:44Right, God? It's difficult right now cuz43:46my thoughts keep telling me I'm dumb.43:48Everyone around me is telling me I'm43:49dumb. The situations are playing out43:52that I'm stupid. I'm making bad43:54financial decisions. I'm making all of43:56these things. But what do you say? Then43:58I have to trust what you say, but I'm44:01it's difficult for me. So, that's why44:03people prayed like this. I believe44:04please help my unbelief.44:06>> Right? So during that time, you have to44:08go to God and go, "Lord, I know the44:10Bible says this. I know Johnny's44:12podcast. I know they're saying this, but44:14it's not clicking for me, right? Because44:17I still trust my thoughts." Father God,44:19according to your will, please help me44:21distrust my thoughts. I don't know how44:22to take my thoughts captive. I'm44:24assuming that I have to bring them to44:25you like this, though. And God, please44:27work in that way.44:30Guys, daily devotionals are back. How44:54do you avoid it becoming transactional44:57like God like like pro I feel stupid or45:01I can't get this job like if I get this45:02job then like you know I I think it45:05would make me have more confidence in45:07myself that I'm not a stupid person.45:09>> Yeah. Um I mean it's according to the45:12will of God. You have to realize too45:13that you can't do anything. That's the45:15whole point. Sitting there and going45:17it's not your responsibility is45:19basically I can't do it. So let's say45:21you sit there, right, Jeremy, and I tell45:23you guys, don't become transactional45:25with God. You think that's going to45:26help? That's like me telling you guys,45:28don't sin ever again.45:30>> Like the fact that you think you cannot45:32become transactional to God, you have to45:34recognize that you are transactional45:35with God. That's the whole thing. If45:37you're asking that question, how do I45:39not be transactional? It's proof that45:41you're transactional because the whole45:43point is we can't do it. A lot of people45:45don't understand what Christianity is,45:47man. And I'm just going to call it out45:48today genuinely. People think45:51Christianity is I sacrifice my life for45:53God. I give up my life for God.45:55Christianity is not that. Christianity45:57is God Jesus sacrificing his life for46:00us. Christianity is God giving his life46:03up for us because we can't do it. It's46:05him dying in our place. It's him keeping46:08the laws for us because we couldn't do46:10it. That's why he says, "Don't think I46:11come to abolish. I come to fulfill the46:12law." Right? He's laying his down his46:15life for us because he knows that we46:16can't do it. In Romans 4:5 it says46:19Christ died for the ungodly. While we46:21were yet sinners, he died for us and46:23then that belief is counted for46:25righteousness. So we have to realize46:27something. We are always going to be46:28transactional with God. And then when46:31you recognize that and you acknowledge46:32that that you're never going to be able46:34to really overcome your thoughts and46:36that's why God has to do everything for46:38you. The renewal of the mind comes from46:41God. When he says, "I am holy, therefore46:43you be holy." It's him who has to do it46:45because the author and the finisher of46:46our faith is Jesus Christ. How can we46:49who are unholy manufacture holiness?46:51That's like like pastor used a really46:53good analogy. He said in South Korea46:55there is no oil. They dug for years and46:58they couldn't find oil. So what did they47:00have to do? Import it. They just had to47:02import it from somebody else, right?47:04They couldn't export. They any country47:06that finds oil or has oil as a natural47:08resource usually makes a lot of money.47:10They were trying to get on that game,47:11but they couldn't. So what did they have47:13to do? Borrow, right? In the same way, I47:16can't manufacture my own holiness.47:18Right? So who do we borrow it from? God.47:21But people are still trying to47:22transactionally go, how do I become47:24holy? Okay, I'm going to try hard. I'm47:25going to read the ten commandments. I'm47:27going to fast. I'm going to tithe. I'm47:28going to pray. That's not going to do47:29anything. Holiness has to come from God47:31and God alone. And we have to realize47:33that we're unholy. That's why we need to47:35go and believe in him and trust in him.47:37And that transfers up onto us. That's47:40why we're counted as righteous, counted47:42as holy, counted as perfect because of47:43Jesus Christ. The issue here is a lot of47:46people keep thinking, I can stop being47:49transactional. No, you cannot. You can47:52be stop being transactional in your47:54eyes, in your standard, right? I'm sure47:57you know most people think that they're47:59good, too. Yeah, in their standard. But48:01when you take the measuring stick of God48:03and you measure it to yourself, all of48:06us fall short. I'm sure Hitler thought48:08he was a great person, too. I'm sure he48:09thought he was doing something great for48:11Germany. And at the end of the day, I I48:13I know a whole bunch of other people who48:15are like, "No, you're a horrible48:17person." So, where do we draw the line?48:19The line is I can't do anything. God,48:22you're the one that does everything.48:23Your standard is gold. So, everybody48:26who's watching this podcast, you guys48:27have to understand this very clearly. If48:29you're stuck in this mindset, and I'm48:31not grilling you guys or shaming you48:32guys for it. I want conviction, though.48:35If you think, "How do I do this? How do48:37I do that?" That is already the wrong48:38question to ask. It's more of what can I48:41do? What can I do? How? What do you mean48:44how? I can't even do it. Even if I told48:46you how. You guys want to live a perfect48:47Christian lifestyle? Keep all the48:49commandments. Give every shirt off your48:50back. Donate every dollar in your bank48:52account. That's what the Bible says.48:54>> It says to help homeless people to stop.48:56Don't sit there and be depressed. Help48:58other people with depression. Do it all.49:00And if you can, Amen. Hallelujah. But I49:03guarantee you can't do it. So why are we49:05asking these things? because we don't49:07even recognize our heart posture. More49:09than anything, brothers and sisters, we49:11have to understand these negative49:12thoughts, these intrusive thoughts, if49:14you think you can stop them on your own,49:16I'm sorry to say, you've already lost.49:18You've you're already completely49:20crooked. Your your foundation is rocked.49:22It's shifted. And so, we have to49:24realize, oh, I can't do anything. That's49:26why God has to help me. That's why God49:28loves me. And even though I'm like this,49:32he still cares about me. He still49:33crucified his son for me. I'm supposed49:35to be on that cross, but he crucified49:37me. And in this way, that is what49:39generates gratitude and love. To sit49:41there and acknowledge yourself and go,49:43you know what? No matter what, I'm49:45always going to lose. And God still49:47chose me more than anything. God still49:49chose me. Knowing all my blemishes,49:52knowing how I'm going to react, knowing49:53that I'm going to, you know, click on49:55websites I'm not supposed to lust after49:57people I'm not supposed to smoke this,49:58drink this, do that, knowing all of50:00that. And at the end of the day, he50:01still died for me and chose me. You guys50:04have to realize that at the end of the50:05day that that's the most important50:07thing, right? Intrusive thoughts will50:08come and just just like you know someone50:12knocking on your door and you have the50:13dead bolts on and everything, you don't50:15have to let them in. You can sit there50:16and go, you know what, these thoughts50:18are from the enemy and I'm not I I have50:20a choice not to trust them. And even if50:23you trust them, what's beautiful about50:25that is that God doesn't hold it against50:27you. That's what you guys have to50:28realize at the end of the day. So that50:30the way to overcome intrusive thoughts50:33is to recognize you can't. And then when50:36you realize you can't, you stop leaning50:38on yourself because you trying to50:40overcome intrusive thoughts is still you50:43trusting in yourself and your capability50:46and relying on yourself to overcome50:48those thoughts. The whole point is to50:50not lean on your own understanding and50:51trust in yourself and to follow God and50:54lean on God. And these are things that a50:56lot of people don't teach. Churches are50:58saying you got to try harder. You got to50:59sin less. You got to submit yourself.51:01You got to surrender. It's like how can51:03you do those things without Jesus Christ51:05and the Holy Spirit? You cannot. And so51:08those are things that we have to realize51:09at the end of the day. God, you have to51:11do everything for me. Some days I wake51:13up with intrusive thoughts too. Some51:15days I wake up with hell of temptation.51:17But what do I do? I surrender that. Hey,51:19hey God, I if you don't hold on to me,51:22I'mma fall right into these temptations.51:24If you don't get make my thoughts51:26disappear, I'm all day gonna think the51:29same thing over and over and over and51:31over again. That's just what it is. You51:34know what's super interesting? It's like51:36um like back then I I I like partying51:39and and drinking and things like that,51:41but then and I thought that that would51:42never go away, right? Okay, if I go to a51:44social environment, you know, I'll just51:46have a couple drinks or whatever. It's51:48not that big of a deal. I'm Christian51:49now. I'm not drinking it every weekend,51:50but if I go to a party and I'll have a51:52couple drinks and it's not that big of a51:54deal, but just one day it just kind of51:56went away. Like I just don't care about51:58it. I don't want the feeling. It It was52:00It was really random. I didn't have to52:02do anything for it.52:03>> But what's interesting is many years52:05later after I've kind of like I've lost52:07the taste for it.52:09>> Every once in a while the thought will52:10creep back in. Oh man, I kind of miss52:13partying or what that was like or I'll52:14hear like a like a really good like I52:16like electronic music. I'll be like,52:17"Oh, it'd be kind of fun to go to a rave52:19again." And it's just really interesting52:21how it's like how quickly I went through52:24that pain of living for the world. Lot52:27like God removed it from me and it52:29wasn't even that painful for me. And52:30then now that I'm good, my brain slips52:33back to yes,52:34>> oh,52:35>> you know, I have more self-control. God52:37wouldn't really mind. And I and and I52:39caught myself there. I'm like, damn,52:40>> you're doing too good. You're way too52:42comfortable. And you're forgetting what52:43it was like as your old self. and and52:46and like what uh yeah, the pain that God52:49removed from your life from from being a52:51part of that world. So,52:53>> most people don't realize that.52:55>> It's but but it was really interesting52:56hearing you say all that, but where I52:58was like, "Wow, I I I kind of just ended53:00back up in the same place. I'm just like53:02this selfish person thinking that I'm53:05more leveled up." Um53:07>> but yeah, that that was very helpful. It53:09it's important to realize that most53:11people, you know, when they they just53:15trust in themselves, whether it's to53:17stop sinning or like continue sinning.53:20All of it just starts with selfrust,53:22right? I trust that I can stop sinning.53:24So, I I ask these questions and I try to53:26and then I trust myself that I can't53:27stop sinning. So, like I also It's like53:29you're you're pretty much still stuck in53:32this mindset of trusting yourself,53:34right? It's like and so people have to53:37realize that it's such a difficult53:39concept but it's also very simple if53:41they're listening to clearly to what it53:43is right if you if if a person is you53:46know good they are more prone to trust53:49in themselves it's just how it is real53:52people who stop trusting in themselves53:54genuinely realize something about53:56themselves dang I'm cooked there's53:59nothing I can do to stop myself there's54:03so many people that say that in our54:05Discord stages, people who meet me every54:07day, oh my gosh, Johnny, I'm at my wits54:09end. I'm at my rock bottom. No, you're54:12at what you think is your rock bottom,54:14right? Like a lot of people even in that54:16thought process, I hit rock bottom.54:18That's your rock bottom. But there's a54:20real rock bottom that God wants us to54:22hit. And it's this bottom is I can't do54:25anything.54:25>> Yeah, but why does it feel like I bounce54:27off that rock bottom? I hit that rock.54:29Like like I said, it was like I'm54:31>> But that's your thoughts. You don't54:33bounce off of the rock bottom. You just54:34think you do. He [snorts] plants54:36thoughts inside of you and then he makes54:38you go, "Yeah, I want to do this. I want54:40to do that." And then we take ownership54:42for something that's not our own. That's54:44the main thing. We're all at rock54:46bottom, guys. Like, we're literally54:47going to die in a 100 years. None of us54:49are going to be here. Why? Because God54:51already gave us. He didn't give us a big54:52house. He didn't give us a nice spouse54:55and all that stuff. Like, that's not54:57guaranteed. What's guaranteed in a54:59hundred years is death. Like literally,55:01we're gonna death in taxes as like Aaron55:04says, right? Genuinely. And so we will55:06die55:07>> and we can't take you you don't have a55:10U-Haul with your casket. You don't have55:11a you know a safe deposit box. Like55:14>> this would be hilarious. Filled with55:16just Pokemon cards and Squishallows and55:19his gaming rig.55:20>> He's like at heaven's gate. God's like,55:22"How did you get that up here?"55:24[laughter]55:26>> But basically like we just have to55:27realize that there's nothing that we can55:29take with us. and we deserve only death.55:32Once people realize that55:35there's this different type of heart55:36that comes to you and it's very55:38difficult to explain but the best way to55:41put it is it's just gratitude.55:43>> It's like you just become like yes you55:46still get angry yes you will have your55:48cravings but underneath everything55:51there's this solid foundation of just55:54like it doesn't get rocked. It's just55:56like, yeah, I that's why I need to go55:59back to God. And what you guys don't56:01understand is intrusive thoughts. The56:03reason why you have them and why God56:05allows negative selft talk, intrusive56:07thoughts is very clear. It's because you56:09need it. It's like what? How could we56:11say that? Like our whole point is trying56:13to overcome these things. Even this56:14episode is about that. But if I'm being56:16honest, you need that. That's the thing56:18that's going to keep you going back to56:19God. And God is not going to heal you56:21from something that's going to keep you56:23tethered to him and like keeping you56:24coming back and depending on him.56:26Because if he removes all of your56:27negative thoughts, he gives you the56:29fattest bank account. He gives you the56:31nicest house and everything else that56:33you wanted. You will not go in front of56:35God. I don't care how much you trick56:37yourself. Yeah, I would. I would still56:38thank him. That is not true. That is not56:40true because he don't even give you all56:42of that stuff now. And he's given you so56:45many things already, let's say, that are56:46blessings and you're still like, not56:48enough. Think about Satan, right? Satan56:51had everything. He had the fame, he had56:54the wealth, he had the mind, he had the56:56every everybody loved him. And at the56:58end of the day, he rebelled against God57:00the most. Like he was literally in57:02heaven. He saw Jesus. He saw beauty. He57:05saw streets of gold as it says in57:07Revelations 21. And yet he went against57:10God the most. And not only him, but a57:13third of heaven that went with him.57:14Bezobub and Ball and all those other57:16angels that fell that fell. And they and57:18it was because they didn't want to57:20surrender. They thought, "No, we we57:22deserve this. We deserve way more than57:23this, man. We've been freaking singing57:25praises to God. We've been doing good57:26for God, man. We love God. What the57:29heck?" Like, that's it. What What about57:31us? Don't we get a throne? Don't we get57:32other stuff? And this is the heart57:34posture that Satan tries to lean into57:35everybody. I don't want to have57:37intrusive intrusive thoughts. If you57:39don't have intrusive thoughts and you57:41have everything you want, what's going57:43to keep you connected to God? I would I57:46would answer nothing. Like most people57:48who do good in life don't need God. All57:51these super successful people that I57:53know are like, uh, God's cool, but like,57:56you know, am I going to pray to him or57:58if I get cancer, spend, you know,57:59millions of dollars trying to fix it?58:01Like, I'm not going to pray to him. I'm58:02just going to go and take my money and58:03fix it. Like, what? How stupid is that?58:05Like, you got to get stuff done. And58:06literally, their mindset is they never58:08have to lean on God because they become58:10mini gods. They're like, I just focus on58:13myself and I'll be good. So having58:15intrusive thoughts, having these thorns58:18on our side, these negative things at58:20times in our this hardships. Pastor58:22talked about this this last Sunday is a58:25good thing. It's literally what keeps58:27you grounded with God, right? And that's58:30the thorn that was on on Paul's side.58:33Cuz Paul could have became Satan. He had58:35everything. He wrote 14 epistles. He led58:37people. His disciples made it into the58:39Bible. Sheesh. There's no other disciple58:42that had their disciples make it into58:44the Bible. Paul was the only one. Bro,58:45bro is goated. Put some respect on his58:48name for real. He got Titus, Timothy,58:50all these fools. And yet, you know,58:51Peter's great. John had Polycarp and all58:54that. That's great. But none of these58:55guys made it into the Bible. So his58:57people, he was that good. And yet, what59:00does he always say in 1 Corinthians 15?59:02I'm nothing. There's not I'm I'm a chief59:05sinner. There's nothing I can do. I59:07persecuted the church. I have a thorn on59:10my side. I went to God three times and59:11God said, "No, my grace is sufficient59:13for you." In weakness, I am strong. So,59:16you being weak, you better boast that59:18you're weak. But what do we want to do?59:19Nah, I don't want to be weak. I don't59:20want to have intrusive thoughts. Oh,59:22they're so crazy. It's just pestering59:24me. It's pestering me. What you're59:25basically saying is, I don't want to59:26lean on God anymore. I don't want to59:29lean on you, God. I want to be able to59:30stand by my own, have a clear mental59:32mind, and have a renewed mind without59:34you. And that's God. The God is not59:36going to allow that to happen because he59:38will ruin your plans before they ruin59:40you, right? He will remove you from59:42tables where things are that the food is59:44poisoned. It's just how it is. But we59:46keep wanting to go back to these tables.59:48We keep like a dog returning to our59:50vomit. Keep wanting to go back to I want59:52to be God. I want to lead my life. I59:53want to do well. That is the most59:56craziest. That's the one thing that59:57human beings do, man. They just keep59:59going back to the things that hurt them.1:00:02They keep going back habitually to just1:00:05being God in their lives. And once you1:00:07recognize that and God doesn't kill you1:00:09and actually still edifies you and1:00:11blesses you, it just hits different. It1:00:13just hits different.1:00:14>> Dang. Something to say. You1:00:17>> dog eating. You vomit eating dog.1:00:19>> Dog eating is you vomit eating.1:00:21>> You're a dog eating and you're a vomit1:00:23eating dog. [laughter]1:00:24I1:00:24>> think you [snorts]1:00:28>> rock bottom joke.1:00:29>> Um, no. No, I didn't get that one.1:00:32>> I didn't get that. Someone will take it.1:00:33>> Um,1:00:34>> what's your what's your take on the1:00:36phrase we're we're not saved by our1:00:38works, but we're saved to do good works.1:00:42>> I think that's okay. I think the good1:00:44works is I mean, if you're truly saved,1:00:46then you have the Holy Spirit and Jesus1:00:48Christ. And Jesus is the one that starts1:00:50the good work and finishes the good1:00:52work. So, I I I don't I don't mind that.1:00:54I think um yeah, I think a lot of people1:00:56are they think good work saves them.1:01:00That's where I kind of have an issue1:01:01with, right? It's same with the1:01:02commandments. We keep the commandments1:01:04because we're saved, not to be saved.1:01:06And same thing with salvation. It's like1:01:08salvation is not something that you1:01:10achieve. It's something that you believe1:01:12and you receive. So again, all of our1:01:15good works, yes, we can produce good1:01:16works like loving on people, helping1:01:18them, bringing them to the gospel.1:01:20That's important. But again, you have to1:01:22for you can't forget the root of those1:01:24good works, which is Jesus, God, and the1:01:26Holy Spirit. As long as you understand1:01:28that, then that's what it is. I see too1:01:30many people1:01:32taking outwardly going, "Oh, you know, I1:01:35really love God and oh, it's I'm1:01:38nothing." But like in their heart,1:01:39they're like, "Yeah,1:01:41>> right, like I did that." I'll give you1:01:43guys an example. We have people wait in1:01:46our lines in live events, right, after1:01:48service. And people will sit there and1:01:51wait two hours just to come pray for me,1:01:53right? And I'll be honest, sometimes I'm1:01:56like, why couldn't you just pray for me1:01:58at home1:01:59>> or like pray for me while you were in1:02:00the thing? Like, why do you have to come1:02:02and pray over me? Right? And what it is1:02:04is although they say that they're humble1:02:06and and you know, they have humility and1:02:09they're like, "Oh, Holy Spirit told me1:02:10to do this." Deep down when I see them,1:02:13I could see that it's really more of1:02:15like pride masquerading as like humility1:02:19and spiritual serving people. like they1:02:23wanna they and they say this amazing1:02:25prayer but it's like super it it's not1:02:27that it's rehearsed but it's very1:02:29performative. It's like father of fod,1:02:32lord, you know, father of father, lord1:02:33of lords, king of kings. Like there's1:02:35and I'm just like dang, bro. And then I1:02:38never give them play. Like they'll1:02:40finish and say in Jesus' name, in Jesus1:02:42mighty name. Amen. And then they'll look1:02:44at me like yeah. And I'm like, thank1:02:47you. And they'll literally look at me1:02:49and just be like, oh, okay. And like1:02:51walk. It was like it's awkward, right?1:02:53And it's because we understand what1:02:55performative stuff is. And and I feel1:02:57bad for people like that because they1:02:58don't know the true gospel. So the only1:03:01thing they can do is perform for God.1:03:04And and and I would say that they're1:03:05more like Jesus admires versus like1:03:08people who follow Jesus followers.1:03:10People admire Jesus. They love what1:03:12Jesus can do for them. They love these1:03:14types of things like, "Oh yeah, I can I1:03:16have peace now. I love God. I care about1:03:17this, etc., etc." But little do they1:03:20actually know that it's really for them.1:03:22their heart is like, "Dang, I failed in1:03:24the world, but let me give this1:03:26Christianity thing a shot." Trust me,1:03:28I've been there, so I know. And it's1:03:30like very very subtle, but it's it's uh1:03:34it leads people to to trust in1:03:36themselves so heavily that wow, look, I1:03:39prayed for this person. You see that,1:03:41God? I gave this person money. You see1:03:43that, God? It's like it's this type of1:03:45heart that people can't even see. And I1:03:48I'll be honest, I think they do see it,1:03:50but I think that they reject it because1:03:51it feels too good. That's what1:03:53performative things do. They feel great.1:03:55It feels amazing. But at the end of the1:03:57day, you're still living roller coaster.1:03:59You're not leading disciples. It's1:04:01[snorts] just like everyone's just on1:04:02their own island serving God by1:04:04themselves in their own way. And that's1:04:07why the most scariest verse in the Bible1:04:09is Matthew 7:21-23.1:04:12He says literally, "Not everyone who1:04:14says,"Lord, Lord, shall enter my1:04:16kingdom, but those who do the will of my1:04:18father who art in heaven in those days1:04:20they shall profess. Haven't we1:04:22prophesied in your name? And in your1:04:24name casted out devils, and in your name1:04:26did many wonderful works." And the one1:04:28thing that Jesus says, which is crazy to1:04:30me, is he goes, "I never knew you."1:04:35Like, he doesn't go, "You didn't do1:04:37enough. You didn't prophesy enough. You1:04:39didn't feed the homeless enough." He1:04:41says, "I never knew you." That's a1:04:43relational thing, right? So, a lot of1:04:46people don't realize that they don't1:04:47have a relationship with Jesus. They1:04:49just think that they do. And that's the1:04:51thing that sends people to hell is not1:04:54How can you love someone you don't have1:04:56a relationship with? It means you can't1:04:58love them, right? Because you don't know1:04:59them. You You can't love someone you1:05:01don't know. You have to get to know1:05:02people. You have to sit there and visit1:05:04and know his heart. Most people are1:05:06showing their heart to God and what they1:05:08do for God, but they're not talking1:05:10about what Jesus did for them. That's1:05:12why it's always I fasted. I prayed, I1:05:15tithed, I broke my heart, I distrusted1:05:18my thoughts, I helped other people, me1:05:20and I, versus what did Jesus do for you?1:05:24He died for my sins, made me righteous,1:05:25made me holy, made me sanctified. But1:05:27they don't really talk about that1:05:28nowadays. Amen. So, we're hiring, guys.1:05:31Core of the heart is hiring. But listen1:05:33carefully. We're not just building a1:05:35company. We're building one of the1:05:36fastest growing Christian communities in1:05:38the world. In just a year and a half,1:05:39this community has grown to over 31:05:41million strong. And we're nowhere near1:05:43done.1:05:43>> Our mission is simple but massive. To1:05:45build the best tools and resources to1:05:47help anyone in the world get closer to1:05:49God.1:05:49>> Our first immediate goal is to get a 1001:05:51million people into heaven. So when we1:05:53say we're hiring, understand this. We're1:05:55not looking for employees. We're looking1:05:57for missiondriven A players that want to1:05:59change the world.1:05:59>> Our criteria is simple. Don't show us1:06:01what you could do. Show us what you've1:06:03already mastered. Like, if you want to1:06:04be the short form editor, show me the1:06:06millions of views you've gotten on Short1:06:07Form. If you want to be the podcast1:06:08producer, show me the shows that you've1:06:10successfully produced. We've learned the1:06:12hard way not to hire off potential. We1:06:14just want to hire off of peer1:06:15experience. People who have already1:06:16proven that they can perform at their1:06:18skill set at the highest level. We have1:06:20jobs available in many different1:06:21departments, media and content, live1:06:23events, and marketing. We also have1:06:25remote jobs and LA based jobs available.1:06:28If you're an A player that has mastered1:06:29their craft and wants to do something1:06:30that glorifies God, then please head to1:06:33the link in our description and check1:06:34out the job board. And lastly, if you're1:06:36an absolute beast at something and you1:06:38don't see it on the job board, please1:06:39reach out. I mean, you know, you might1:06:40be able to do it for us. It might work1:06:42out. So, if you're amazing at something,1:06:43you don't see the perfect job1:06:44description, just reach out. Tell us1:06:46what you're good at. Maybe it'll work.1:06:47>> Genuinely, I can't do this without a1:06:49team. So, I'm very thankful for anyone1:06:50who supports the mission. I look forward1:06:52to hearing from you guys. So John 6:291:06:55tells us that this is the good work of1:06:58God, right? This is the work of God that1:07:00you believe in Jesus Christ in in whom1:07:03God sent which is Jesus. So all we have1:07:05to do is believe and people don't1:07:07realize that, right? Faith without works1:07:08is dead also ties into this. What is the1:07:10work that God is talking about? By1:07:12having faith, believing in him and then1:07:14that obviously will then produce all of1:07:16the good work which is Jesus Christ.1:07:18Okay.1:07:18>> Okay. But let me argue that Mr. Johnny1:07:20Chang.1:07:20>> Go ahead. Argue that.1:07:21>> Not argue it but it's like okay. No, you1:07:23said it.1:07:23>> But don't I need to if I believe1:07:27everything you say?1:07:28>> No, you don't.1:07:28>> And I'mma keep1:07:29>> If you did, you wouldn't say nothing.1:07:31>> And I'm I'm a smoke, you know, because1:07:33it's not that bad. Like Jesus is not1:07:34going to be mad that I smoke cigarettes.1:07:36I'll quit eventually. But then people1:07:37from the outside are like that guy's a1:07:39Christian. And then it turns them off1:07:40cuz they're like that. So shouldn't I1:07:43kind of like watch what I say?1:07:45>> Of course. Of course you should do those1:07:47things. But none of that is for1:07:48salvific, meaning none of that is for1:07:49the salvation. Like you don't get saved1:07:51by that, right? You're doing it exactly1:07:54for that reason is to think about other1:07:56people. Being a Christian, guys, is1:07:57thinking about other people. Like Jesus1:07:59Christ could have had a very valid1:08:01argument by sitting there and going, you1:08:02know what? People are going to roast me.1:08:05People are not going to believe in me.1:08:06People are going to say I'm a prophet1:08:07when I'm not. People are going to say1:08:08all these things about me. God, I'm not1:08:10going to hang on this cross. And if he1:08:12just thought about himself, we would all1:08:14be cooked royally. But the one thing he1:08:16did was like, "No, I got to think about1:08:18this person, that brother, that sister,1:08:20the ones who do believe in the gospel.1:08:22I'll come and I'll die for them too, and1:08:23I'll die for everybody." And so, in the1:08:26same way, we should think about other1:08:27people. You know, everything is1:08:29expedient. The Bible says in 11:08:30Corinthians, all things are lawful. All1:08:32things are expedient, but not all things1:08:34are lawful. Meaning, you don't have to1:08:36do everything. Of course, you can do1:08:38whatever you want. We have free will,1:08:40right? But at the same time, why would1:08:42that be beneficial to us? like we would1:08:44still obviously be, you know, not1:08:47punished at least eternally, but we will1:08:49be punished in this world. If I go out1:08:51there and I'm just like I'm righteous1:08:53and start punching people in the face,1:08:55I'm probably going to end up in prison.1:08:57Like, it's just going to happen, right?1:08:58Even if I'm righteous and I believe in1:09:00Jesus Christ and I probably wouldn't be1:09:01a good representative of, in fact, I1:09:04wouldn't be a good representative of1:09:05Christ. Like, this guy has the fruit of1:09:07the spirit, but he's literally punching1:09:08people. Like, what the heck? So1:09:10obviously, right, these hypotheticals1:09:12are good, but most people don't do that.1:09:14Like when they say, "Oh, so can1:09:16Christians sin however they want?" It's1:09:17like, bro, first and foremost, a true1:09:20Christian never really tries to sin1:09:21however they want. And on top of that,1:09:24if you understand what sin is, you do1:09:25sin however you want because you're1:09:27literally a ball of sin. Like, you're1:09:30sinning in your heart every single day.1:09:32You're promising God you're not going to1:09:33do something and you still fall short1:09:35because we're human. And so we do1:09:37actually mess up every single day, which1:09:39is sin.1:09:41>> I'm going to ask a little bit of a1:09:42different question here.1:09:44When you guys are scrolling on social1:09:46media, do you guys more think negatively1:09:48or positively with what you see? I'll go1:09:51I'll be honest if you guys want me to go1:09:52first.1:09:53>> Go first.1:09:54>> I used to think more negatively, right?1:09:56I think like1:09:57>> what1:09:57>> and no. But like for example, you'll1:10:00see, you know,1:10:02>> you jerk. [laughter]1:10:06>> No, I Okay, I'll just see like a couple1:10:08doing something corny. I'll be like, oh1:10:09my god, that's the corniest couple. But1:10:10then I'm like, you know what? Like1:10:12they're happy. like why am I hating on1:10:14this couple that's doing something and1:10:16and maybe maybe internally that couple1:10:19is doing it to be performative or1:10:21whatever but I'm like wouldn't I want1:10:24>> like why wouldn't I want a happy1:10:25relationship with with a partner that I1:10:27could like why wouldn't I think the1:10:28positive and want that for me or I'll1:10:30see somebody doing well in something1:10:32I'll be like ah god they executed that1:10:34so poorly but it's like no wait1:10:36>> I want the it's it's the same thing for1:10:37you it's like why not ask God for that1:10:39blessing for me so I'm trying to reframe1:10:41it but1:10:42>> for some reason when you're when I'm on1:10:44social media, my commentary is always1:10:46like corny this like,1:10:48>> you know, it's just like it's just like1:10:49more negative commentary than it is1:10:51positive commentary. So, what do you1:10:52guys think? Negative or positive?1:10:54Mainly,1:10:55>> I think same along that line. Like I1:10:57used to think hella like, dude, this is1:10:59whack and super judgmental, but now1:11:01there's just it's more compassion. It's1:11:03like even if it something is corny, even1:11:06when people talk trash, right? The first1:11:08initial thought is always like hater1:11:09thought. Like, man, you know, this is1:11:12stupid. Like, why would they say that?1:11:13Like, let's say somebody who makes a1:11:15heretic video of me, right? Sometimes1:11:17these people send it to me. They're1:11:18like, look at what this guy said. And1:11:20the first thought is like, bro, I swear,1:11:22bro, if I met this dude, he'd probably1:11:23poop his pants, right? Like, obviously1:11:25negative. But then after I'm like, dang,1:11:27they don't know. They think that they're1:11:29defending faith and what they're really1:11:31doing is they're sealing their fate,1:11:32right? It's like they're they're going1:11:34against the word and they're not even1:11:36studying. They're just either going for1:11:37clicks, going for views, clout chasing,1:11:39or just they genuinely believe that they1:11:42they're right. And so it makes me sad.1:11:44It's like, dang, all I talk about is God1:11:46in the gospel, and these people are1:11:47like, he's wrong, he's this, he's that.1:11:49And so I I I think it's just more of1:11:52like empathy and it comes from the1:11:54gospel. Like I think, Jeremy, for real,1:11:57that you know, you have to give the1:11:59credit to God, bro. The fact that you're1:12:00able to be like, "All right, I'm1:12:02probably not hating any like as much." I1:12:04don't think like we would be like that1:12:06just even three, four years ago.1:12:07>> True.1:12:08>> Right. I think genuinely being around,1:12:10you know, saved people, Pastor Kim and1:12:13servants to then be like, "Dang, let me1:12:15think about other people. I may not1:12:16always be right." And all these things1:12:18that we talk about on these podcasts and1:12:20in real time, uh, has probably shaped1:12:23your mind to go, "Let me let me pump the1:12:26brakes a little bit."1:12:27>> Very true. Very true. And thanks for1:12:28doxing me. What about you? Uh, it's I'm1:12:32very selective.1:12:34>> Said my name.1:12:34>> Oh, sorry.1:12:35>> Like they don't know.1:12:36>> Uh, Jeremy.1:12:39>> Um,1:12:39>> my last name, too.1:12:41>> Jeremy Kim Kardashian.1:12:43>> Sorry.1:12:44>> At1:12:45>> Stop telling them I'm not I don't want1:12:46people to know I'm a Nepo baby.1:12:47>> Somebody can read lips. I just said your1:12:49address.1:12:49>> I don't want them to I don't want them1:12:51to know I'm a Nepo baby.1:12:55>> You were born rich.1:12:57>> Yeah. So what?1:12:59>> So what, man?1:13:01Um, I think it really depends honestly1:13:03on on whatever I'm seeing. Like I I've1:13:05always been very on both ends of the1:13:08spectrum throughout my whole life. Like1:13:10>> you're just on the spectrum. [laughter]1:13:12>> He's just on the spectrum.1:13:14>> That's what I get for saying that word.1:13:15>> I knew you were going to say that.1:13:16That's so lowhanging fruit. Bro, you1:13:18suck. [laughter]1:13:21That's so mean.1:13:23No, like forever I've been like I've1:13:25been like for creators and stuff like1:13:28that, I've always been like if I see1:13:29anyone post anything, I'm like, "Good1:13:31job. At least you're posting. You're1:13:33trying. There's so many people that say1:13:34they want to do stuff and they never do1:13:36it. I don't even care how horrible it1:13:37is. Could be the worst content I've ever1:13:39seen." And I'm like, "Good for you. Keep1:13:41crushing it.1:13:42>> Kill the cringe." And then1:13:45>> but now and same with always if I see1:13:48like an ad or a company doing something1:13:51or like someone pays the Rizzler, the1:13:54NFL, [laughter]1:13:55Coca-Cola is using AI, I'm like you guys1:13:57need like there should like content1:13:59should be heavily regulated. You should1:14:01have to like apply for a camera.1:14:03[laughter] I see certain things and I'm1:14:05like this should be illegal. There1:14:06should be a line someone I can report1:14:08this to [laughter]1:14:10cuz that's how much I hate certain1:14:11content. I'm like, "Someone needs to do1:14:14something about this."1:14:14>> You know that one line, they should make1:14:16podcast equipment like [laughter] kind1:14:18of illegal. Like they should like Target1:14:21and just lock it up.1:14:22>> Exactly. It's like going to the gun1:14:23store. They check your ID. It says here1:14:25you've had two previous podcasts.1:14:27[laughter] You've had two prior1:14:29podcasts. What uh what happened to1:14:31those? [laughter]1:14:33>> Says here you were cancelled on one of1:14:34them.1:14:37>> Sorry, sir. We're not going to be able1:14:38to sell you this microphone. [laughter]1:14:40Sure.1:14:42SM7B. Sure, buddy.1:14:44>> It's so funny.1:14:45>> So, it really depends what I'm seeing.1:14:47I've always felt really strongly about1:14:49to both ends. It really depends who it1:14:51is.1:14:51>> That's very true. It fluctuates, but I'm1:14:53trying to1:14:54>> Yeah. But I'm trying to reframe it in my1:14:56mind because I'm like, it's so because1:14:58that's the other thing too, right? It1:14:59was the thing you talked about earlier1:15:00where comparison is the thief of joy.1:15:03and you see these people that have more1:15:05or are happier or do something and your1:15:08and your motive and your first feeling1:15:09is to hate like dang like like where's1:15:12that coming from? And I think and I1:15:14think if you're honest with us out there1:15:16I think 95% of people more think in the1:15:19mode of like man why can't I have that1:15:21or why is that person1:15:22>> I could tell you why I would hate even1:15:24though I for sure it's out of jealousy1:15:27but that's not the only reason people1:15:28hate. Did you guys see like the funny1:15:30clip I forgot it was uh who's that1:15:31comedian? I'm sorry. He does like crowd1:15:33work.1:15:34>> My wife. He was like handsome guy.1:15:35>> He was like, "Everyone just hates me.1:15:37Like whoever hates you, they're just1:15:38jealous." And she was like, "Really? So1:15:40if I like hate like do you think people1:15:41who hate Osama bin Laden were just like1:15:43jealous1:15:44>> and he's just like stumped. So you can1:15:46hate people for other reasons, but no,1:15:47there would definitely be times where1:15:49like I used to DJ, right? And if I1:15:51stopped DJing like near the end of COVID1:15:53or whatever it was, there would be times1:15:54where I would see an upand cominging DJ.1:15:56And listen, all DJ content is cringe.1:15:58All of it. But there's but I would just1:16:00be okay with it. I'd be like, "Good for1:16:01you. Post the content, whatever it was."1:16:03Then there was the moment where I would1:16:04see DJ content like, "You are so cringe.1:16:06This is so cringe. I wouldn't I wouldn't1:16:08even want to be in this community1:16:09because everyone in it is so cringe." It1:16:11was like so unbearable.1:16:12>> Um, but but it was because probably that1:16:14I wasn't DJing. And then then I'll go1:16:16out, attention.1:16:20[laughter]1:16:25I wish I could be head down making that1:16:27cringe content. That's how I felt like1:16:29running like 2022, 2023. Um, I've since1:16:32gotten over. I support DJs again. No,1:16:34[laughter] no offense if you're a DJ.1:16:38But yeah, like I would Yeah. Yeah.1:16:40>> It's funny. It's It's a It's a weird1:16:42back and forth.1:16:42>> Yeah.1:16:44>> It's biblical. Hearts change.1:16:46>> Like no one with a happy girlfriend is1:16:48like hate like thinking that's cringe.1:16:50Like other people posting, they're like,1:16:51"God, you guys are so cringe." It's like1:16:54they see that and like data idea.1:16:56>> Yeah. Yeah. That's so true.1:16:58>> So true.1:16:59>> Okay, I have an interesting question for1:17:02you guys to end the podcast. Just a1:17:04thought provoker.1:17:06>> Okay.1:17:07>> If you guys could rewatch one day of1:17:10your life,1:17:13>> which day would it be and why?1:17:16>> I know which one.1:17:17>> You can't touch anything. You can't1:17:18affect anything. You can't ask anyone1:17:19any questions. But you can have a third1:17:21person omnisient view to rewatch it from1:17:24either your eyes or above your eyes like1:17:27a video game Fortnite third person1:17:28style.1:17:30And1:17:31>> I know my answer is going to suck. So1:17:33I'll let Johnny go first.1:17:34>> Well, no. Let's hear yours first and1:17:35make it quick and then we can [laughter]1:17:37>> No, no, no. Fine, fine, fine, fine,1:17:40fine.1:17:41>> No, if you need to think about it.1:17:42>> Mine was that Mine was that one time1:17:43that you said that I was wrong, but I1:17:45know that. No, I'm just kidding.1:17:47[laughter]1:17:48>> Hey, Erin, you see that? Like you have1:17:50you have like this like crazy power to1:17:52go back to any moment and just like to1:17:54get back at me for something.1:17:56>> Yeah. It's like see you actually wanted1:17:57wings when you said you said that you1:17:59wanted pizza but you said wings right1:18:00there first. I remember1:18:02>> you're like I'll go back to the podcast1:18:04episode 13. It's like you can rewatch1:18:06that. Like [laughter]1:18:09>> you can rewatch [laughter]1:18:13>> so dumb.1:18:14>> All right, Johnny. What day of your life1:18:16would you1:18:16>> He knew immediately. So I'm curious.1:18:20>> Uh I think the day that I met pastor.1:18:24>> I just want to see like1:18:26>> how is it does it hit different, you1:18:28know?1:18:28>> Uh cuz knowing what I know now,1:18:32going back and like rewatching it. I1:18:34mean I can play it in my mental but like1:18:35to see I want to see my body language. I1:18:38want to see like every intricate detail1:18:39like what was it that he said1:18:42specifically which I know but like how1:18:44he said it what [snorts] was he looking1:18:46at you know like like when he saw me1:18:50like what was his because you're caught1:18:52up in your own thoughts right so you1:18:54pull up and you're like ah but like I1:18:56wanted to see if he was smiling at me1:18:57like yeah those little details would be1:18:59super dope1:19:00>> how vivid1:19:02>> is your memory of that interaction1:19:04>> pretty vivid pretty vivid but like I1:19:06don't remember I remember him smiling. I1:19:09don't remember pulling up because I just1:19:11remember I don't remember seeing him1:19:12like that. Like I just remember pulling1:19:14up and going, "All right, mama. I'm1:19:15going to drop you off." And then I1:19:16looked over and he was smiling. But I1:19:18want to see like if he was kind of1:19:20shocked that I came, if he was like,1:19:22"Oh, what the heck?" Like, "Oh, wow.1:19:23He's here." Or, you know, whatever it1:19:24was like I want to see.1:19:25>> Is that your deepest questions1:19:27surrounding the moment is what was1:19:28pastor's reaction or what are your1:19:30deepest questions surrounding that1:19:31moment? I guess that that this rewatch1:19:34would give you. I think like because I1:19:37can read heart posture so well now. I1:19:40want to know what pastor's heart posture1:19:42was. I kind of know it because I I lived1:19:45through it, but there's little things1:19:47and cues that he'll give off that like I1:19:49want to see where he held back in1:19:51certain things or where he he was more1:19:54uh like empathetic and compassionate in1:19:56other things, you know? So, yeah, that1:19:58that would have been something cool to1:19:59rewatch.1:20:00>> That's a good answer. I wonder if there1:20:02was a security camera in that church1:20:04courtyard,1:20:04>> right?1:20:05>> Is it this? No, it's the different1:20:06church, too.1:20:07>> Different in LA.1:20:08>> Also, times weren't like it as much back1:20:10then where just everything's on camera.1:20:13>> Answer sucks compared to1:20:14>> what else? [laughter] What else happened1:20:16that day? I know you've told the story a1:20:17lot, but like what happened before that1:20:19moment and what happened after that1:20:20moment?1:20:20>> Well, before that moment, his mom called1:20:22him and asked him for a ride to church.1:20:23Bozo.1:20:24>> Okay. Right. [laughter] And I'm saying I1:20:25know you've told it a million times, but1:20:27what was even before that? What were you1:20:28doing when you got that call? I don't1:20:29remember. Just And then what' you do1:20:31after?1:20:32>> You want me to be honest?1:20:33>> Yes.1:20:34>> Before I before I went before my mom1:20:36called me, I had gotten into an argument1:20:38with one of my homies.1:20:41>> And I remember telling him like it was1:20:43over money. It was over money and rugs.1:20:48I was like, "You said it was Persian.1:20:49It's not Persian, bro." [laughter]1:20:54>> So1:20:55>> fake rugs. This is laced with cotton.1:20:57>> Hey, what the heck is this, [laughter]1:20:58man? You said Egyptian silk, man. This1:21:00isn't freaking Egyptian. No, I'm just1:21:02kidding.1:21:02>> This is only 500 thread count.1:21:04[laughter]1:21:06>> They were like the magnum.1:21:08>> You said 600. [laughter]1:21:10>> No, but I I remember arguing with him1:21:12over some rugs like, "Oh, you got to you1:21:14know, I fronted him x amount of1:21:16whatever." And, "Oh, I get it back to1:21:18you in two weeks, bro. I You said that1:21:20two weeks ago, fool." Like, remember1:21:21arguing with them. And uh what else1:21:24happened after that? I remember I went1:21:27to go get uh some food, but I ended up1:21:31just for some reason not not wanting to1:21:34eat the food, which is crazy. If you1:21:36guys know me,1:21:37>> I legit like I'll eat anything. So1:21:41instead of getting food, it was it was a1:21:43taco spot. I remember I was trying to go1:21:45get tacos and then I uh ended up getting1:21:50sour belts. Like do you guys remember1:21:52the strawberry sour belts? So, in the in1:21:55the the liquor store, I remember it was1:21:57a old Korean dude and the the the it was1:22:01he had two boxes. It was red sour belts1:22:03and it was green sour belts and it had1:22:06the little like u like uh little tongs1:22:09and then he's like you remember that?1:22:11>> Yeah. Take it out the bin and it's not1:22:13even in the package. It wasn't made by1:22:14like a company.1:22:15>> Yes. Yes. And so he would sell them like1:22:17he bought the whole thing and would1:22:19piece them, right? And so he broke it1:22:21down like straight up broke it down into1:22:23from zones to No, I'm just kidding. So1:22:25he took it and put it in a white bag. I1:22:27remember it's like a pastry bag and um I1:22:30remember eating it and I was like man1:22:32like man my homies don't you know1:22:34whatever like and I just remember1:22:35feeling like empty but just eating food1:22:37would make me happy. And so after that1:22:40uh what did I do? Ah this is1:22:43embarrassing but I was trying to like1:22:45think of like which girls I was going to1:22:47holler at and stuff you know. I was just1:22:48kind of like,1:22:49>> "Oh, yeah. Maybe I'll hit up this for1:22:51whatever what." And then all of a1:22:52sudden, um, I get the phone call and my1:22:56mom was like frantic. H Johnny, you1:22:59know, uh, actually, uh, the car, you1:23:01know, I think it's overheat and and I'm1:23:03like, "What the heck? What are you calm1:23:05down? Like, what are you talking about?"1:23:06And she's like, "Yeah, I'm in, um, I1:23:09thought she said Pasadena at first,1:23:11>> but she's like sadino." But she's like,1:23:14but I I heard it as Pasadino or1:23:16something like that. I was like, "Oh,1:23:17mom, are you in Pasadena?" She's like,1:23:18"Yes, yes, yes." So, I remember driving1:23:20towards Pasadena and then going, she1:23:23goes, "I'm here near Baseline and blah1:23:25blah." And I was like, "Baseline? There1:23:27isn't really like a baseline out." And1:23:29I'm like, "Mom, where are you? Where is1:23:32the freeways at, you know?" And she's1:23:33like, "Oh, the 15 and I was like, 15,1:23:36bro, you're like hella far, bro." And1:23:39I'm like, "Okay, you're like where the1:23:4215 and the 215 split." I'm like, "What1:23:44are you doing out there?" Oh. And I'm1:23:46like, "All right, let me just pick her1:23:47up." And I remember just driving like a1:23:49whole hour to go get her. Bro,1:23:50>> were you pissed?1:23:51>> Of course. I was pissed. I like, "What1:23:52the hell is this girl doing, bro? You1:23:54can't find your way around a freaking1:23:55grocery store. You over here in freaking1:23:57San Baladino, fool." Like, and I'm like,1:23:59"All right, whatever, man. It's mom's,1:24:01you know? I'm not tripping." Like,1:24:02whatever. And I was just driving and oh1:24:06my gosh, dude. I even remember the song1:24:08that I was playing when I was driving to1:24:11my mom in my in my Beamer. It was uh1:24:14>> Britney Spears. No, California. No, I'm1:24:17[laughter] just kidding. No, it was uh1:24:19it was many men by 50.1:24:22>> Many men.1:24:22>> Yeah, many men. And um yeah, I was1:24:26driving and then you know picked up my1:24:28mom. I seen the car on the road1:24:30>> and she had got it like one of those1:24:32people had towed it off for her. I1:24:34forgot one of those I forgot Calrans or1:24:36whatever people. And then um she's like,1:24:39"Oh, we just leave it here." I was like,1:24:40"Mom, you can't leave it here. Like I1:24:41have to get the AAA whatever." She's1:24:43like, "Just just leave it here." ah like1:24:44it's too much like what the hell and1:24:47then she just was like frantic like she1:24:50was I could tell I remember I remember1:24:52distinctly man like dang I remember my1:24:55mom1:24:56>> had like like dehydrated breath you you1:25:00know what I'm talking about we were like1:25:01so and her lips were super um chapped1:25:04and I I remember feeling bad for my mom1:25:07and she's like I have to go to church1:25:08and oh I need to get water so like I'm1:25:10like we'll stop at the gas station to1:25:12get water cuz like what the hell you1:25:13know, and then she's like, "No, no, no,1:25:15no, no, no, no. We can out. We cannot.1:25:16I'm going to be late." Blah, blah. And I1:25:18remember getting pissed at the church1:25:20like, "Yo, you fools are tripping, dog.1:25:21Like, my mom is like hella like1:25:24dedicated to you guys and you guys ain't1:25:26even send one of your freaking people to1:25:27come pick up my mom." And that's when I1:25:29was like, "Man, I don't know why." And I1:25:31started I feel bad, but I started1:25:33grilling my mom like, "Why you go to1:25:34this freaking Korean church, man? They1:25:36don't even care about you. They don't1:25:37even come out and drive to you. Like,1:25:38it's your son me who's still going out1:25:40there picking you up." And I remember1:25:43she was just ignoring me and she just1:25:45was like sitting there and like1:25:48praying and stuff and I was like man1:25:49you're a weirdo dude. I remember saying1:25:51that you're a weirdo mom. You're a1:25:52weirdo. Anyways um end up just like I'm1:25:55don't care. I'm going to just stop the1:25:56car. And I stopped the car and you know1:25:59grabbed water for her and then she was1:26:00thankful for it but like she was still1:26:02stressed out. My mom had severe anxiety1:26:05back then too. even though she was like1:26:06saved, she would always panic about1:26:09everything. And I would always tell her,1:26:10"Calm down." And then, yeah, we get over1:26:12and I'm like, "Okay, where is it?" And1:26:14she's like, "Oh, it's it's on this1:26:16exit." She told me the wrong exit. I1:26:18remember1:26:18>> for any off chance that someone is1:26:20listening and doesn't know what you're1:26:22talking about. This is the story of when1:26:24Johnny initially met Pastor Kim, which1:26:28was inevitably turned him over to God.1:26:30>> Yeah. And I remember going through where1:26:32our church was in MS Hood. I remember it1:26:36was in in back then it was in Korea Town1:26:38in Masava Hood. And I remember like1:26:41driving through and then I felt like uh1:26:44immediately like I had to be on my P's1:26:46and Q's cuz I'm like, "Mom, why you go1:26:47to the a church like this? What the1:26:49hell?" It was legit in the hood, you1:26:51know, in like the heart of their hood.1:26:53And so we go over there and then you1:26:55know uh back then there were more people1:26:56kind of hanging out on the side and on1:26:58the streets and taggings and like you1:27:00know all that and so we get over there1:27:03and then that's when I see the pastor1:27:05and so yeah I just remember and there1:27:07was hell of homeless people outside of1:27:09the church like just tents everywhere1:27:11too. It was like mini skid row low key1:27:14and um yeah that church was just1:27:16infested with rats. I remember it was1:27:18like crazy. It just it was like a hood1:27:20church straight up in every every sense1:27:22of it. It was a hood church. And I1:27:24remember the the road was rocky. And I1:27:26remember scraping my car and I was1:27:28pissed cuz it was like it had a it had1:27:31like a pothole inside of the the um1:27:34inside of the the like there was a gate1:27:36that slid and once you slide it was like1:27:38on an incline and it had a pothole and1:27:41it was like and I was like, "Oh my gosh,1:27:44dude." And then after that, you know, I1:27:47just seen him and I was like, "Man, I'm1:27:49I'mma head out of here. Like I'm not1:27:50trying to stay here." And then the rest1:27:52was history. Met pastor, they moved out1:27:55of that church and then ended up going1:27:57to get got saved and ended up going to1:27:59Temple City. Temple City.1:28:01>> Well, what he said, what happened after1:28:03that day?1:28:03>> Yeah.1:28:04>> Like when you finished talking to pastor1:28:05and it was done.1:28:06>> Oh. So then afterwards like I had stayed1:28:08for the whole thing and then my mom was1:28:10like, you know, after we fellowship my I1:28:13remember pastor going, you know, you1:28:14should go home and rest. Take your mom1:28:15home to rest. I was like, okay, thank1:28:16you pastor. I was really appreciate. And1:28:18I just kept harping on how cool he was.1:28:21I remember telling my mom like, "Mom,1:28:24he's he's really nice. Like, damn, he's1:28:26not like other pastors. Like, he's1:28:28really chill and he's he's actually like1:28:29funny." And, "Wow, mom, I I kind of1:28:32understand, you know." And I remember1:28:34driving back towards the house that we1:28:36we hit we hit a little bit of traffic.1:28:38And I just remember looking at the other1:28:41side was all traffic and we were free.1:28:44And I remember telling my mom like,1:28:45"Dang, mom. all these people don't know1:28:48that they're perfected. All these people1:28:49don't know that they're that God has1:28:51forgiven all of their sins. And my mom1:28:52was just balling. I remember. And I was1:28:55like, why are you crying? And she was1:28:57like, she just now I know why, right?1:28:59Cuz I was saved. So I was like, dang,1:29:01that's so crazy that, you know, she she1:29:03was like crying. And I didn't I didn't1:29:04know. I was like, why are you like, so I1:29:06was very cold back then. I didn't cry a1:29:08lot. And so now I'm like, dang. My mom1:29:10was like, "How can Johnny have a heart1:29:13like like that to think about like,1:29:15dang, these guys don't know about the1:29:16gospel, mom?" It was that it was that1:29:18quick. And so, yeah, it was it was1:29:20beautiful.1:29:21>> Yeah, it's a great story.1:29:21>> And did you go back to beefing with your1:29:23friend and seeing what girls you were1:29:25going to hit up that night? And1:29:27>> no, everything felt like like very like1:29:30like1:29:32a weight off my shoulders. It was crazy.1:29:34I was like, "Dang, I I can't believe1:29:38like I'm going to heaven." And the whole1:29:40night I'm going to heaven. No, man. No1:29:43way. No, no, I am. Wait, what? Is it1:29:46really like that, man? I've been lied1:29:48to. And I just it was this the whole1:29:49night. And then I concluded, you know,1:29:52the next morning like, "Wow, it it1:29:55carried over to this happiness carried1:29:57over to the next morning." And that's1:29:58when I knew it was real. And I was like,1:30:00"Dang, God, thank you." You know,1:30:02genuinely. And it just felt like1:30:05like a light bulb just turned on.1:30:07[clears throat] It was so crazy. The1:30:09light bulb just like lit up and was1:30:10like, I can't believe I thought God was1:30:14like this other thing when it was this1:30:17this thing. And I felt1:30:19>> a closeness to him of like1:30:22>> sheesh, you're you really like why me of1:30:26all people? And that was the it was why1:30:28me? I can't believe I'm really saved. I1:30:30can't believe I didn't know who you1:30:32were. I can't believe I distrusted you1:30:34so much. I didn't even know the hell you1:30:35were. I felt stupid, but not like a bad1:30:38stupid. It was like a godly remorse. And1:30:40it was just from then on, bro. Like that1:30:42was Hebrews 10:14, Hebrews 10:17.1:30:45>> And I just kept reflecting on it. I was1:30:47thinking like,1:30:48>> I'm going to get Hebrews 10 blasted on1:30:50me. Like, you know, I'm going to get1:30:51tatted. Like, hell yeah, this is and I1:30:53got to tell my homies. Like, that was1:30:55the next thing was I got to tell people1:30:56about this, man. I got to tell D. I got1:30:58to tell the homies like dang if they1:31:00know they're they you know and then when1:31:02I did I got shut down.1:31:04>> But I mean that that happened like a1:31:06couple weeks after you know but I got1:31:08shut down and then I went back to pastor1:31:10and that that was the formation of me1:31:13trying something and then coming back to1:31:14pastor try and I didn't realize that1:31:16that was the first steps of fellowship1:31:19like kind of how Jeremy came to me and1:31:21was like but what about this person?1:31:22What about same stuff where it was like1:31:24just going back and forth and pastor was1:31:26like I really love that you keep coming1:31:28to me. And I'm like for real? I feel1:31:31like I'm bothering you. He's like, "No,1:31:33I love that you keep coming to me. I1:31:34love it. I love it. Don't trust your1:31:36thoughts. Like keep coming to me. Open1:31:38your heart. Share your heart." And I'm1:31:39like, "Share your heart." Again, these1:31:41words, [clears throat] "Thank you for1:31:43sharing your heart. Thank you for1:31:44opening your heart." I'm like, "What the1:31:45hell does that even mean?" I never1:31:47understood any of these words. And then1:31:48he's like, "Thank you for, you know, uh,1:31:51breaking your heart." I'm like,1:31:52"Breaking my heart? Like, I thought a1:31:53broken heart is a bad thing, right?1:31:55Thank you for not being hardened." And,1:31:57you know, I'm hardened. Like, what? So,1:31:59yeah, I just Yeah, it was cool. It was1:32:01like learning everything, man. It was It1:32:03was amazing.1:32:04>> Wow.1:32:05>> Wow. We just got to go rewatch that day1:32:08from1:32:08>> Yeah, that was crazy.1:32:10>> Yeah.1:32:11>> Good question. What about you? What's1:32:12the day that you would relive?1:32:14>> Did your Is your phone okay? Sounded1:32:16like a big drop. It's okay.1:32:18>> Okay.1:32:20>> Um I don't know.1:32:22>> I don't know.1:32:23>> He always does that. It [laughter]1:32:24>> doesn't matter.1:32:24>> I have a stupid one. What is it?1:32:26>> Stupid one.1:32:27>> So, one time when I was a when I was a1:32:29heathen and a heathen and I was just1:32:31following the world, I got uh I had this1:32:33really nice1:32:34>> um electric bike.1:32:36>> I couldn't afford a car at the time in1:32:37LA and it was like a it was the worst1:32:39year of my life. I was like, "All right,1:32:40at least I'm gonna get electric bike." I1:32:42had this electric bike. I probably spent1:32:44like 1,700 bucks on it, but it was how I1:32:46would get to work and I could just do1:32:48things now.1:32:48>> Yeah.1:32:49>> Um and uh1:32:51>> one time my friend invites me to a party1:32:54and I'm like1:32:56>> I was already super hung over from the1:32:58night before. So I'm like I'm going to1:32:59go to the party and not drink. And I1:33:02take my electric bike and I go to this1:33:03party and it was the first time that I1:33:06tried White Claw.1:33:08>> And I was like I was like, "Oh, what's1:33:11this?" No, I don't know if it was the1:33:13first time, but it was like one of the1:33:14earlier times white cly just come on to1:33:16the scene and I'm like and so my friend1:33:18hands me one and I try it. I was like,1:33:19"Oh, dude, like this isn't like this is1:33:22not that bad. It tastes fine." And you1:33:23know how when you have a little bit of1:33:24alcohol when you're hung over it goes1:33:26away. So I started feeling good. Then1:33:28they're like, "Oh, do you want to play1:33:29white claw pong?" And I was like, "Okay,1:33:30I'll play." And then all of a sudden the1:33:32guy's like uh uh it was this it was this1:33:34uh older guy's birthday and they start1:33:36breaking out um kasamigos.1:33:38>> Oh. And so I take one shot and then the1:33:42next thing I know is it's the next day I1:33:45woke up and I'm in pain in my bed and1:33:47I'm like I can't move and I and I I only1:33:51have boxers on and I take my sheets off1:33:53and my whole entire body is scraped like1:33:56it looks like someone peeled like a1:33:58sheet of skin off me and my face is1:34:00swollen. I'm like what? And I and when I1:34:02step out,1:34:03>> oh [laughter] my god.1:34:04>> And when I step out, I can't get like my1:34:06my body feels like I've just been in it1:34:09like a in a car crash and I'm like,1:34:11"What the?" And I go look in my bathroom1:34:13mirror and I have a huge black eye. Uh1:34:16my teeth I don't remember if my teeth1:34:18were broken. I think my teeth were1:34:20there. I've broken my teeth before, so I1:34:21was scared. I'm like, "Okay, my teeth1:34:22are there. My face is swollen. Scraped.1:34:25Like I still have a scar right here.1:34:27Scrape. Scrape. Scrape." I'm like,1:34:29[clears throat]1:34:29>> so I Oh, you bored? [laughter]1:34:31>> No, no, I'm sorry. I've I have heard1:34:33this story many times.1:34:34>> Yeah. Okay. Well, long story short, I1:34:36run to my garage and I rip open my1:34:38garage and my bike is not there. I'm1:34:39like, how did I get home? How did I get1:34:41in my bed?1:34:42>> And my phone is completely shattered and1:34:44it's strobing. I can't see text or1:34:46nothing. And so I luckily it's connected1:34:48to my computer. So I look and there's1:34:50one there's like there's one person.1:34:52It's my friend who wasn't even at that1:34:54party that I was at. A different friend1:34:56was like, "Yo, where are you, dude? pick1:34:58up your phone. Yo, I'm looking for you.1:34:59It's just like all the and it's at like1:35:012 or 3 in the morning. And so I'm like,1:35:03wait, what? I left that part. So, long1:35:08story short, I who cares about the rest1:35:10of the story. What I want to know is1:35:12well, actually, I did find out where I1:35:14crashed because I was wearing AirPods1:35:16apparently, and you can track AirPods on1:35:18my iPhone. So I I track my AirPods and I1:35:21find my AirPods under this bridge and I1:35:23was literally like maybe three blocks1:35:26away from my house under this bridge and1:35:28where I had where I had crashed um like1:35:32it was so dark at night like and it's a1:35:33bend cars could have ran over me. So I1:35:35don't know how1:35:36>> I got doesn't matter at the end of the1:35:38story. What I want to know is I want to1:35:40go back to that time and say who took my1:35:42bike.1:35:42>> Yeah. Who Yeah. Who watched you there1:35:44asleep on the ground and took your bike?1:35:47>> Just crashed on the ground and took my1:35:49bike. Who took my $1,700 bike left?1:35:53>> Who took my bike?1:35:54>> Yeah. Yeah.1:35:56>> But1:35:56>> dang, Jerome, you're so lucky, bro. You1:35:58could have died.1:35:59>> Do one thing. You could rewatch your1:36:01best memories with your friends. You1:36:03could rewatch1:36:04>> the day you were born. See with your1:36:07parents. You could There's so many1:36:08options. And you're just like, I want to1:36:09know who took my bike. I want to know1:36:10who's the [laughter] sick sicko that saw1:36:12me like smashed against the wall1:36:15underneath this bridge.1:36:16>> I'd be like, "Yo, give me back my bike.1:36:18I missed that bike." It was a really1:36:19>> You care about your happiest memories or1:36:21>> I remember all my happiest memories. I1:36:23want to see1:36:23>> Same. Low key.1:36:24>> I want to see who tried to finesse me1:36:26when I was at my lowest. [laughter]1:36:28Who's my op?1:36:29>> What would you do if you ran it all back1:36:30and you look and it's 10 years ago? It's1:36:32me. [laughter]1:36:34>> I'm like, "This guy's an idiot." I just1:36:36pick up the bike1:36:38>> before we met each other. [laughter]1:36:39It's like some1:36:40>> No, no, we met each other. I knew you.1:36:42>> Oh, you do me like, "Oh, yeah. You tell1:36:44me that. [laughter]1:36:45>> I just take the bike." Like, "Dude,1:36:47something crazy happened last night."1:36:48Wait, where did you get that? Like,1:36:50yeah, I got this new bike. [laughter]1:36:54>> That's crazy.1:36:56>> Um, I don't know. If I were to really1:36:57just think off the top of my head, it1:36:58would be just some super happy moment.1:37:00Whether it's, I don't know, something1:37:02with my friends or family, maybe a1:37:04family vacation that I'm really too1:37:05young to remember, but everyone else1:37:07did. Like I have a ton of pictures of me1:37:08from Disney World as like a complete1:37:10toddler and cuz all my siblings are1:37:12older. They all have memories and I1:37:14don't. But that would be cool to watch.1:37:16Maybe1:37:16>> you're probably so lame as a toddler.1:37:18>> Actually, you know what I would really1:37:19do? I want to go back to the f my first1:37:21Fortnite win that I would [laughter]1:37:23that I would rewatch. I was in a room1:37:25with like1:37:26>> probably 25 lame.1:37:28>> I was in a room with probably like 25.1:37:30Epic peak 2018 moment. I won't even get1:37:32into the details, but if if you were1:37:34there, you were there1:37:35>> solo. Yes. Oh, of course. Of course. Of1:37:38course.1:37:39>> Did you run from the storm?1:37:40>> Of course. Of course.1:37:43>> But you you want to know like this this1:37:45was maybe a longer time ago, but I was1:37:47thinking about the happiest moments of1:37:48my life and it was very sad because a1:37:50lot of them were like raves.1:37:53>> Why is that so sad? Cuz it's like just1:37:55drug induced.1:37:56>> Oh well. Yeah. I mean,1:37:57>> yeah.1:37:58>> A lot of that is a blur to me, too. I1:38:00don't know how you could remember that.1:38:01So, I remember I think I got so coked1:38:03out of my mind many times I just don't1:38:05even remember a lot of that stuff.1:38:06>> Yeah,1:38:07>> legit.1:38:08>> I remember some some of it being super1:38:10fun though,1:38:11>> but whatever.1:38:13>> Yeah,1:38:13>> it's funny because and then I forget1:38:15about the times it was god awful and I'm1:38:17like I'm never going to touch this stuff1:38:18ever again.1:38:20>> Yeah,1:38:20>> it's true.1:38:21>> Yeah, I always you always somehow like1:38:23blur out. It's like it's like the X.1:38:25You're like, I kind of missed the X and1:38:26then you're like, oh, wait a second. The1:38:28psychopath like why would I go back to1:38:30that? You're like wake up. It's like1:38:32over time, you know, like the idea of1:38:34time heals all. It also like just like1:38:36somehow removes all the the pain.1:38:39>> Yeah.1:38:40>> Time and distance equals velocity.1:38:45>> Yeah.1:38:48>> Thanks, Alfred Einstein. [laughter]1:38:49>> Alfred Albert Einstein.1:38:51>> No, no, the broke version. The team of1:38:53It's Alfred Einstein. [laughter]1:38:55>> Yeah. Yeah. Just a little off.1:38:58He's just1:39:01>> That's right.1:39:02>> He's like E= MC. I'm a square. Let1:40:17us bow our head. Father God, thank you1:40:20so much for giving us this podcast.1:40:22Lord, as we touch up on intrusive1:40:24thoughts and negative selft talk, please1:40:26allow us to remember that thoughts are1:40:27only suggestions. Lord, we [snorts]1:40:29don't have to follow them. We have a1:40:31choice whether to accept or to reject.1:40:33But Father God, what we're so thankful1:40:35about is that you allowed Jesus to be1:40:37tempted in all the ways that we're1:40:38tempted.
