Transcript of Same Parents, Different Childhoods π
Spark Growth
0:00Siblings can grow up in the same house.0:02No siblings grow up in the same house.0:04No siblings have the same parents. No0:06siblings have the same family. No0:08siblings have the same childhood. Why0:10not? Number one, there's the birth0:11order. Parents don't relate to the first0:13child the way they relate to the second0:14child. Then there's gender differences.0:17I'm not talking about whe the parents0:18love the kids or not. I'm talking about0:19what actually happens. The child doesn't0:21experience the parents love. The child0:23experiences the way the parent shows up.0:25Number two, the parents relationship0:26might be in a different phase. One child0:28and another. Then the parents might be0:30in a different economic situation. The0:32parents lives might be different. Then0:35each child will evoke a different0:36response from the parent. You have two0:38daughters and a son. I have two sons and0:40a daughter. It's not that I loved or we0:42loved any one of them more than the0:43other. But we responded to them0:44differently. And there's one more factor0:46which is children are born with0:48different temperaments which is they0:50experience the world differently. So0:51even if I could be the same parent to0:53all my kids, which I couldn't be, they'd0:55still have three different parents0:56because they would experience me0:58differently.
