Transcript of Lennox's Answer to Evil: The Greatest Response Ever?
0:00Professor John Lennox is answering the0:02hardest question you can be asked and0:04he's giving the greatest answer I have0:06ever heard. Certainly in 4 and 1/20:08minutes. Alex Okconor is the agnostic0:10who is asking this question and he0:12begins by explaining where he's coming0:14from spiritually speaking. I'm not a0:16Christian and that has a lot to do with0:18my lack of trust in the reliability of0:21of not so much the gospels as a whole0:24but particularly things like the0:25resurrection narratives. Um, but this0:29this team0:31of religion is bad and evil and0:34corrupting of thought. I'm not on that0:37boat. He's not with the new atheists.0:39Yes. Or nor am I. And I'm also not on0:42the boat of saying that God doesn't0:44exist and religion is false. I I'm more0:46of an agnostic. Yes. These days, but I0:50tend to take a more critical tone um0:53because that's just sort of who I am and0:55what I do. But I I think I remain quite0:57thoroughly agnostic, which is one of the0:58reasons it's quite difficult to1:00interrogate my beliefs because there are1:01so so few of them that are solidly held.1:04Um, but one of them would be, for1:06example, so there's the reliability of1:09scripture, but when you're talking about1:10theism as opposed to Christianity, one1:12of them really is the the problem of1:13evil. I do find it mysterious and1:16bewildering. Oh, it's it's the hard1:18question for any worldview. Then the one1:21of the reasons why it actually comes up1:22so little is because it almost feels1:25trivial to bring up because it's the1:27obvious point. It is the argument. Yeah.1:29And it's been discussed ad nauseium.1:31Earlier in this fantastic discussion1:32between Alex Okconor and John Lennox,1:35Alex actually says one of his favorite1:37arguments for the existence of God is1:38that there are so many arguments for1:40God's existence. That might make you1:42believe that there is a God because you1:43can actually make an argument for God's1:45existence out of really anything in1:48human existence. But on the other side1:50of the scales, there is this one1:51question, this hardest question.
