Unlearned Wisdom by Johnny Chang
0:00Welcome to another episode of the0:02Unlearned Wisdom podcast with yours0:05truly, Johnny Chang, where each episode0:08is a gospel center lesson that you could0:10apply to your life today.0:12>> Today,0:13>> today in this episode, we're going to0:16talk about how to overcome your personal0:18weaknesses and that guilt that you feel,0:20whether or not that's from God or from0:23the enemy. And towards the end, we're0:25actually going to also help you guys0:27overcome your past traumas and0:30everything from your past that's0:32affecting you.0:32>> Let's go. Let's 49. So, let's do this.0:36>> 49. Hey, actually,0:37>> we're close to 50.0:38>> Hey, guess what?0:40>> You're not Johnny Chang anymore. You're0:43>> Pastor Chang.0:45>> Are we to talk about that?0:47>> Pastor. Yes, we are. Pastor. Pastor.0:49>> So, tell them what's up. So I was always0:51a minister part at my church and I did0:54prison ministry there and pastor one day0:57was like you know what Johnny like0:58you're kind of getting really big I1:00think you should actually go and start1:03your own church and I was like no cuz1:06it's so fun to be behind the pastor and1:09be like I didn't mess up like here's the1:12pastor right so uh I think he was1:14challenging me to kind of walk walk out1:18in faith and walk by faith And so yeah,1:21we ended up doing it. It [snorts] was a1:23difficult legal process. Basically, we1:25had to go through like so many like1:27hoops and stuff, but in the end, God1:30willing, we became a Cth1:34church basically. We're under Cth1:36Ministries, bro. We're a ministry now,1:39guys.1:40>> Let's go.1:40>> Full on. So, I'm a pastor. That's uh1:44Janitor Jeremy. [laughter]1:45>> Deacon Kim.1:46>> Deacon Deacon Deacon Kim. I'm Lord Kim,1:50[laughter]1:51>> master of the broom closet.1:55[laughter]1:55>> Dude, Aaron got the frier. He looks like1:57a monk.1:58>> Like this looks like a tunic.1:59>> He's just in the back say he's just2:01missing that.2:01>> Yeah. Hey, do we get cool names at the2:03church?2:03>> Yeah, sure.2:04>> What roles did you give me and Aaron?2:06>> I already said it.2:07>> Head of custodial uh2:08>> leader of custodial operations.2:10>> Oh, yes. The environmental specialist.2:12>> Environmental.2:13>> Your CEO, custodial executive officer.2:15[laughter]2:19What's Aaron?2:20>> I don't know. Aaron is uh he's the viral2:24I don't know what am I I was going to2:26give him a real title.2:27>> Viral specialist.2:28>> I'll be parking attendant.2:29>> Yeah, he'll be part He'll do he'll do2:31parking. [laughter]2:33>> He'd be bad at that. Okay,2:36>> guys. The first topic is a little more2:37serious though. I sent you guys each2:39video. Please pull it up on your phones.2:41Editor will cut this in. They'll put it2:42on the screen so you guys can watch.2:44Watch the video. Dude, I don't care. I2:46don't care about ICE. I don't care about2:48the protests. I don't care about2:50Venezuela. I literally don't care about2:52any of it anymore. I mean, we're told2:54that we have to care about everything2:55and that caring about everything makes2:57us a good person. But the truth is is2:59that if you are emotionally invested in3:02things that you have zero power to3:04change, that's not empathy. That's ego.3:07And we actually know better, too. Like,3:09our minds aren't wired to care deeply3:12for more than 150 people. But we forget3:14that when we scroll and then we get hit3:16with empathy fatigue. So we stay3:18anxious, feel guilty and feel exhausted3:21all the time. And the thing is is that3:23rational psychology says this clearly.3:26Caring beyond your ability to act is an3:29irrational belief. Like you're allowed3:31to say I don't care as a boundary. This3:35isn't apathy. It's humility. Sheesh.3:38>> So my question is, how do you draw the3:40line to be empathetic towards someone3:42versus they're a mental burden and you3:44push them away?3:45>> Or you can say like, I don't want any3:47part of this.3:48>> Yeah. I think again we're called to like3:50be empathetic and point people towards3:53God. But like when people start to3:54absorb3:55>> the pro the traumas and the problems and3:58the guilt and the anxiety, that's what4:00bro was talking about. He was like, "We4:02can only care about 150 people." And4:04like on one scroll, it dictates4:06basically our whole like identity, our4:09whole feelings. And like that's not4:11empathy. That's ego. It's like feeding4:13this heart of like, "Oh, I'm so good and4:16look it, I'm connected to these people4:18and I care about them." When really4:20you're just feeding the heart of like I4:22want to be a good person.4:23>> Why is that a necessarily a bad thing?4:25For example,4:27>> it's not a bad thing unless you start4:28judging people for it. It seems like he4:30was saying like they're utilizing that4:32and going no one's like following me4:35>> and that they're not doing it my way. So4:37like I you know and if you say you don't4:39care that's a bad thing, right? That's4:41like his whole thing. He's like I don't4:43care is actually a good thing. It's a4:44boundary. It's humility to be like I4:46don't necessarily care and I'm just4:48being honest here. Whereas most people4:50will be forced to care because they're4:52scared that if they say that for real4:55other people would ridicule them. M.4:57>> So that's not empathy, that's pride,4:59that's ego. I agree.5:00>> I5:01>> I guess there's two parts for me5:03sometimes because I'm definitely very5:05privileged. Like I've never uh had to5:09like I've never had my family members5:11deported5:12>> or anything like that. And like I've5:15never been without food or shelter over5:16my head for the most part. Mhm.5:18>> So, how does it feel though when people5:20are like, "Well, because you've had it5:22so good, maybe it's time you open your5:24mind a little bit and see what other5:26people are going put try to put yourself5:27in someone else's shoes for once." Cuz5:29it's easy when everything's fine to be5:31like, "Eh, doesn't bother me. I don't5:33really need to care."5:34>> I think like again, it's5:37it's difficult to answer that because5:39everybody's moral intuition is different5:42and everyone's moral standard is5:43different. It's all subjective, right?5:45So do I care more like to you if I care5:49if I pick a side then I'll plate only to5:52one side like the other side I'll piss a5:54couple people off. So for me it's like5:57everything has to be as crazy as this is5:59gospel centered and Christ centered.6:01It's like how did Jesus choose? He drew6:03boundaries and he was like look here are6:05the Pharisees and here are the people6:07who are like the woman caught in the act6:09of adultery. I need to choose obviously.6:12Yes. But I'm not choosing to like bend6:16and like break for people. I'm choosing6:18what's true, right? And so again, if6:21it's anything aside from the good news6:23is all bad news. That's how I see it,6:25right? So anything that's not the truth6:27is a lie. Anything that's not and and6:29God says, "I am the way, the life, the6:31truth." So anything aside from Jesus and6:33gospel- centered stuff again is uh it's6:37kind of pointless to kind of like think6:39about, right? That's why he was saying,6:40"I don't care." It's like, "Bro, I I'm6:42so I have things that I have to do."6:45>> And it's like, I can't just sit there6:47and waste all my energy on other things6:49because somebody else feels like I6:51should be wasting my energy on this one6:53thing.6:53>> Do you ever feel as a pastor though,6:55right? I'm taking take political or6:58global events just like as a pastor,7:01>> people judge you of like how you need to7:03care for your congregation or whatever7:05it is. And so, how do you deal with7:07that? I mean, I just realized that7:08there's a lot of people who are just7:10side busting, right, in in the in it's a7:12prison term, but basically like they7:14don't they're not doing anything7:15themselves. So, of course, they're going7:17to sit there and ridicule people. And7:19I'm not saying not be teachable. I think7:21it's okay to listen to people, take it7:23as information, and then compare it with7:25the truth. Are my fruits showing what7:28they're saying? Right? Are people7:29leaving the congregation massively7:31because they don't like my tonality? or7:33is it just one out of a thousand people7:36that's saying, "I don't like your tone."7:37Well, then I I don't think I would7:38change it if it's if the majority of7:40people are listening to the truth and7:43actually are are loving the tonality.7:45Right? Those things are subjective. More7:47importantly, I think it's what are you7:49focused on? Uh if the main message is7:52about the gospel, you can't expect a7:54mango to taste like a pineapple, right?7:56You can't expect a hardened criminal to7:58be like, "You need to be nice." And I8:00genuinely think like, you know, that's8:02the the issue is I feel like you're good8:06if I like you're good if I feel like8:09you're good, right? You're you're a good8:11person if I think you're good. But8:13that's again that can change. That's8:15paper thin because what happens when8:16they don't think that you're good. We've8:18seen this like all pastors get toppled8:20over this. I we've seen artists,8:22celebrities get toppled over this.8:24Diehard fans and they do something8:26wrong. Boom. boom, they flip on them8:28overnight to the point where people are8:30even like unaliviving themselves or8:32like, you know, just disappear8:34completely for years. Like the the Squid8:36Game guy, he was gone for like years.8:39And in Korea, they're very cancel8:41culture, right? And so it's like,8:43>> yo, you messed up. And bro had to go8:45away for like 11 years to then finally8:47be like, hey guys, I'm still here. Okay,8:49we forgive you after 11 years. It's like8:51crazy. So yeah,8:53>> the the turning on celebrities is so8:55interesting because for the first time8:58ever I'm seeing on TikTok like people9:00turning on Taylor Swift because of some9:02if you ever followed the Justin9:04Basically Blake Lively her husband9:07maliciously went after uh one of her9:10co-stars and he collected all the9:13evidence and they tried to ruin his9:15career and it's like this crazy case and9:17they're releasing the the court is9:19releasing all these text messages and9:21And it's Taylor Swift and this the these9:24three people trying to go after this guy9:26when he was completely innocent. And now9:28for the first time ever9:29>> like you could never say anything about9:31bad about Taylor Swift. And now the9:33evidence is all out there and everyone's9:35turning9:36>> and I'm just [clears throat] like9:37>> everyone's it's fickle, right? It's9:39>> and what's crazy is like I don't even9:41know about that. So like that only9:43matters.9:43>> Why don't you care about that, Johnny?9:44>> No, no, no. I'm just saying9:45>> that's Taylor Swift.9:46>> But I'm saying that's only in that like9:49like millu, right? It's like that's9:51that's only in their space. Like I'm9:54sure if somebody was like cancel Johnny9:56Chang, LeBron wouldn't be like cancel9:58me. He'd be like what? Who is this guy?10:00Oh yeah, it looks like cancelellable.10:01Like you know, let me shoot my shots.10:03Right. So at the end of the day, it's10:05just like it doesn't even really matter.10:07I think people waste a lot of time and10:09that is what the enemy does is he10:12focuses on weaknesses as we're talking10:14about today and going look they have10:17more of a weakness than me and so I have10:20to vilify these people and that way I10:23can hide behind that without having to10:25expose myself and deal with all the10:28traumas and the things that's inside of10:29my heart too and my own weaknesses. If10:31you guys realize that everyone's just10:33weak at the end of the day,10:35>> like it doesn't even be become an issue.10:38Jeremy, you're a child, bro.10:39>> I didn't see you, but did he point at10:42this point?10:44I was [laughter] trying to flick the10:45leaf out of your head. I didn't look10:47this way anymore, but I could just tell.10:49>> Well, what's your take on the whole10:50thing?10:51>> Well, I really like what Johnny said10:52about like um10:53>> Don't plagiarize him. Say your own take.10:55>> Well, I'm just I'm just kidding. I'm10:56kidding. I like when you said that like10:58um if you're just posting something out10:59of fear of like to say that you like11:02when you really don't care and you fear11:05to say that you don't care so you just11:06post something to appease everyone. It's11:08like is that really activism or is that11:10just ego? What is that?11:11>> We're both Asian. You didn't post a11:13yellow square during stop a a hate.11:15[laughter]11:16>> No, I was posting the other content that11:18No, I'm just11:21>> Yeah, my page got banned. It was a weird11:23time. [laughter] No. Uh [gasps]11:26but but yeah, just like how can you11:28possibly care about everything? Like you11:30were saying, it's like you could never11:32care about everything. I remember seeing11:34like you're not meant to care about more11:35than 150 people or whatever it is. I saw11:37a meme. It was like11:38>> there's some idiot under a waterfall11:40right now with no phone who has no idea11:43what's wrong with the world. Like11:44[laughter] he must be so dumb and happy11:46>> and it's just like11:48man.11:49>> Yeah. So it's just like you can't11:51possibly care about everything. There's11:52something horrible going on in every11:54corner of the world and every corner of11:55your own country and every corner of11:56your own town. There's horrible horrible11:58things going on and people are mad that12:00if you don't tweet about it from your12:02child's slave labor iPhone device. It's12:04like you people what they pick and12:06choose to care about is just so12:07interesting cuz you could never actually12:10care about everything.12:12>> Yeah, it's like that even in in12:13spirituality, right? Like when they go12:16you need to repent,12:17>> you're only repenting for the things you12:19feel bad about. Like are you actually12:22repenting for the things like let's say12:23like if you're under the old like12:25Levitical laws like if you're wearing12:27mixed cotton you're going to burn in12:29hell but they're not like God forgive me12:31for wearing Adidas and Nike to get like12:33it's like no one does that again it's12:35all things12:36>> God [laughter] forgive me for this12:38polyester blend. Yeah, literally right.12:41It's like it feels so good, but I know12:43it's demonic. Like it's no one does12:45that. But at the same time, they want to12:47go and be like this is what I care12:49about. And again, it's all subjective.12:51It's all like humanistic standards.12:53>> So true.12:54>> You know, so for me, it's it's you got12:56to focus more on that one common ground,13:00which is the gospel that ties into13:02everything. Even people who don't13:03believe, like I mean, that's why it's so13:05difficult to navigate, right? I I see a13:08lot of unbelievers, and I'm not trying13:09to be mean, but they're like really um13:12they struggle a lot with things because13:15well, not necessarily, but I'm like,13:17where is your like where do you find13:20like, you know, I guess the center line,13:22right? Because what's good to you is13:25different than what's good to me. And13:27so, and and is different than what's13:28good to somebody else. So, is it just a13:30popularity thing or13:32>> I'll tell you where. Just their13:33feelings. Everyone's feelings. And it's13:35the same with everything we're talking13:36about with what to care about and what13:38because people are always like um they13:39care so much about these specific parts13:41of the Bible, but they'll ignore the13:43parts that make them feel upset that13:44they're not happy with. And it's the13:46same with what they choose to put13:48squares online about. It's what makes13:50them feel like they're doing some13:51justice or whatever, but they're not13:52going to acknowledge the thing that13:53would make them unhappy. The fact that13:55they would have to get rid of their13:56iPhone, they would have to get rid of13:57their car. It's like, "No, I'm not going13:59to acknowledge carbon emissions. I'd14:00rather acknowledge this because it14:01doesn't actually affect me. It's not14:03actually a part of my feelings. Sheesh.14:05>> So, Johnny, share us a story about a14:07true moment of personal weakness. I14:09personally have none. I was I tried to14:11come up with a story of personal14:12weakness. Couldn't think of anything for14:14myself.14:14>> Yeah.14:15>> And I'm sure you and Aaron have a bunch.14:17>> I think for me it was difficult when14:20when pastor was14:23there was a time where I would just fall14:24asleep on every single sermon and then I14:27just don't know why. I just would knock14:31out. I would p purposely sleep better,14:34like sleep longer, like sleep earlier14:37even. And as soon as I heard the word, I14:41would just like super like get sleepy. I14:44could have full energy. Doesn't matter.14:46And so I remember14:49one of the pastors was like, "You14:52shouldn't fall asleep." But then Pastor14:53Kim was like, "I don't care if you fall14:56asleep." So, I was kind of like, who do14:58I listen to, you know? And uh I guess15:01around that pastor, I was like trying to15:04stay awake. And then around pastor Kim,15:05I was a little bit more free. And this15:08was difficult because15:11pastor wasn't mad that I was falling15:12asleep, but he was more like, "Why do15:15you think you're like good?" Like, and15:16I'm like, "What do you mean, why do I15:18think I'm good? I'm trying to follow15:20inside of the church." And he's like,15:21"If you do this, you'll end up leaving15:23the church." And I couldn't understand15:25that, right? And so, uh, it actually15:29happened one day where I felt like15:31mixed, too much mixed information. One15:34pastor would say this and then pastor15:36would say that and then I would get15:37chastised by this pastor and then when I15:39would follow this pastor, then I would15:40get chastised by pastor Kim. And I15:42couldn't like understand why. Like it15:44was very confusing. So at the end of it,15:47I just was like, "F it. I'm going to dip15:49out, you And so the one thing that15:53Pastor Kim said was like he kind of15:55baited me, right? He goes, "Oh, are you15:57angry?" He just one day I was in the15:59restroom, we were like, I was washing my16:01hands. He was washing his hands. He's16:02like, "Oh, are you mad? Are you mad at16:05me, Johnny?" And I was, but you know, I16:07didn't want him to know that. So I was16:08like, "No." And he's like, "Yeah, yeah.16:10You're so You get mad all the time, huh?16:13Over the smallest things, huh?" Ooh.16:15>> And I'm just like,16:18>> like I was getting mad like legit16:19[clears throat]16:20hot and he's like, "Yeah, I mean it's16:22just it's crazy, right? Like you're like16:2520some years old and you're still mad16:27about those little things." Like isn't16:28it kind of like pathetic? Like that's16:30how he said it. And I just looked at him16:32and I was like going to rip his head16:33off. Like literally I was like, "Okay,16:36that's just how I am." He's like,16:37"Exactly. That's what he said." And I16:39was like, "What do you mean?" And he's16:41like, "Exactly. That's how you are."16:44He's like, "Your heart, you know, is16:45like so closed and callous, but like if16:48you just learn to acknowledge who you16:49are, what's the problem?" Okay, so let's16:52say you got mad that I chastised you and16:54then you got mad that that pastor16:55chastised you. Remember when I told you16:57that you're a good person? And I was16:58like, "Yeah." He's like, "You're trying17:00to like please both people. Just be you.17:03Like that's all you have to do. Like you17:05don't you you're not understanding like17:07you think you can follow directions so17:09well." Johnny, I'm sorry to say, but17:11when have you followed directions? Well,17:13[laughter]17:14and I was like, dang. And [snorts] so he17:16was like teaching me these little17:18lessons that I felt like pricricked me17:20and like moved me out of like my comfort17:22zone, but it was only to just17:25acknowledge who I was and acknowledge my17:27weakness, which is I don't like17:30authority and I do think I'm a good17:33person. I can't grow with God if I think17:35I'm a good person. And then he explained17:38that concept that time of when you're17:40good, you cannot listen because why? He17:43used analogy of like a barber shop,17:45right? He's like, let's say Johnny,17:46you're trying to be a barber. If you17:49think you're pretty good at barbering,17:51when you go in even as an apprentice,17:53you're not going to be able to listen to17:55the person giving you gems because17:57you're like, "Oh, I already know how to17:58do a fade." Like, you're not going to18:00actually pick up on that. You're going18:01to always have this kind of filter of18:03like, I know what I know. let me see18:06what I think is good. Let me see what18:08where I can learn and improve. Like18:10you're not going to like it like take18:12everything in versus somebody who's like18:14I don't know anything. Number one, you18:16have to be humble because of that. You18:18don't know anything. So you're like18:19thankful in this environment that people18:21are pouring into you. And so when he18:23said that it clicked to me cuz I didn't18:25understand when he was like you're you18:27think you're good. I was like I don't18:29think I'm good though. I don't actually.18:31But then underneath it, there was a18:33heart of like if I don't think I'm good,18:36then how come I can't listen to him18:37who's better than me? Like, and how come18:39I'm trying to listen as well to like18:42everybody else to show that I'm18:44submitted and I'm listening? Like, I'm18:47not a person who ever listened. Why18:49can't I accept that?18:50>> By him telling you just sleep,18:53what would that teach you? Like, let's18:54say you're just all right, I'll just18:56sleep.18:56>> Yeah.18:57>> What would that have taught you?18:58>> So, it's teaching me because it's not19:00about the sleep. That's what he was19:01saying. He was basically saying like if19:03you sleep, if you don't want to sleep,19:04that's not the issue. It's your your19:07thought that like you think if someone19:08tells you something, you could just19:10follow them. You're not understanding19:11that you need grace, though,19:13>> right? And he's like, you need grace to19:15be able to sit there and be like, "All19:16right, I'm going to try to follow, but I19:18will knock out." And then when someone19:20chastises you, you just accept that. Cuz19:23I didn't want to I didn't want to get19:25chastised. That was the issue. I didn't19:27want that pastor who I didn't really19:29know to tell me that I was lazy and I19:32didn't care about the word. Like I19:34didn't want to feel bad about myself.19:35And what he was saying was what's the19:38issue with that? Just feel bad if you19:39have to and move forward or don't and19:41just be like yeah I I I fell asleep.19:44We're hiring guys. Core of the Heart is19:46hiring but listen carefully. We're not19:48just building a company. We're building19:50one of the fastest growing Christian19:51communities in the world. Don't show us20:15what you could do. Show us what you've20:17already mastered. Like, if you want to20:18be the short form editor, show me the20:20millions of views you've gotten on Short20:21Form. If you want to be the podcast20:23producer, show me the shows that you've20:25successfully produced. We've learned the20:26hard way not to hire off potential. We20:28just want to hire off of peer20:29experience. People who have already20:30proven that they can perform at their20:32skill set at the highest level. We have20:34jobs available in many different20:35departments, media and content, live20:38events, and marketing. We also have20:40remote jobs and LA based jobs available.20:42If you're an A player that has mastered20:43their craft and wants to do something20:45that glorifies God, then please head to20:47the link in our description and check20:48out the job board. And lastly, if you're20:50an absolute beast at something and you20:52don't see it on the job board, please20:53reach out. I mean, you know, you might20:55be able to do it for us. It might work20:56out. So, if you're amazing at something,20:58you don't see the perfect job20:59description, just reach out. Tell us21:00what you're good at. Maybe it'll work.21:02>> Genuinely, I can't do this without a21:03team. So, I'm very thankful for anyone21:05who supports the mission. I look forward21:07to hearing from you guys.21:08>> Right. Why would you expect to be good?21:10Yeah. You've never listened to, you've21:11never been good at doing this in your21:13life or whatever. Why would you expect21:14it now? It's like, but you think you're21:16good. And it was even a deeper lesson21:17where it's like he he he would say like21:21the sermon and it finally clicked to me.21:23He's like a lot of people they fail in21:26life but then when they get to church21:28they somehow feel like they have a clean21:29slate and they can do really good but21:32underneath that is pride, right? It's21:35like oh now I have a new life. I can be21:37a better Christian when I couldn't even21:39be like a a a good evil person, right?21:43Basically like I just sucked at21:44everything. So it's like he's like those21:46people don't realize that that's kind of21:48rooted in pride. It's not wrong to want21:50to do good. He's not saying that it's21:53bad to like do good. He's saying like if21:56you try your best to do good then what21:59happens is you become self-dependent and22:01self-reliant. And the whole point of22:03Christianity is to rely on Jesus. So22:06like in this way it it's a po it poisons22:10the well because you're sitting there22:11and you're like okay I know I'm saved by22:14Jesus but now I have to like act like22:16him. I have to pray like him. I have to22:19do everything like him. And then you're22:21actually assuming his role basically22:23like then what do you have to do with22:25him essentially? And so from that little22:27bit, he was showing me such a deep22:29lesson here, which is kind of difficult22:31to grasp, especially for new new22:33believers. But as you walk it, you're22:34like, "Dude, that's so true." So many22:37times I depended on myself. And I just22:39put like Jesus into it. Oh, Jesus will22:42let me do this. But like in my heart, it22:44was like I wanted to go that way. I22:45wanted to like take care of myself. I22:47wanted to control the outcomes. But I22:49would slap the label of Holy Spirit led22:52me or God said this or the Bible said22:55this. But in my heart underneath was22:56like, "No, I want that though."22:58>> So what would have you done in that23:00situation? Like let's say you're sleepy23:02again. Just keep sleeping every23:05>> Yeah. So it was weird after that23:07happened, I stopped getting sleepy at23:08church,23:09>> right? I was like I mean unless I'm23:12extremely exhausted and I'm really23:13really tired like like yesterday I was I23:16had like seven dreams, eight dreams back23:18to back to back and today in the meeting23:20I was just yawning and then Jeremy was23:22like, "Oh, am I boring?" It's like, "No,23:24I'm actually tired." But yeah, so other23:27than that though, I wouldn't I wouldn't23:29I stopped falling asleep cuz I realized23:31I'm not a good person. And that's how23:34the word enters. It says when people23:36were ungodly, Christ died for the23:38ungodly. The woman who's sitting there23:40caught in the act of adultery is not23:42looking for Jesus. But then when Jesus23:44like gives her the antidote like, "Hey,23:46this is who I am." She like perked her23:48heart and perked her ears was like, "Oh23:49shoot, no one condemned me." Like you23:51don't either. Whoa. like it was23:53different versus someone who's like, I23:55need to find Jesus everywhere. I need to23:57download him. I need to download him.23:58That then it turns like almost into like24:01you're chasing dopamine in a way, you24:03know? So,24:04>> yeah.24:05>> Not a treasure hunt.24:06>> Yeah. Seriously.24:08>> It's such a strange balance cuz it's24:10like it's like you don't try, you try24:12and just accept but fall asleep at24:14church, go to sleep, but then the pastor24:16be like, "Hey, why are you sleeping? You24:17should pay attention." You know what I'm24:18saying? It's like a24:20>> But a lot of that is posture checking,24:21too. Yeah.24:22>> Like I realized that a good pastor will24:24always look at your heart and be like,24:27"You're dirt." And I'm just like,24:29"Okay." You know, whereas before I'm24:32like, "What do you mean? I didn't even24:33do anything wrong. Like, what are you24:34talking about? Why am I know I'm dirt?"24:36And it's it's so different. Even though24:38like, "I know I'm dirt." If you say it24:41with like a different heart, the words24:43are the same, but the heart is different24:45behind it. I know. Yeah. I know I'm24:47dirt, pastor. Thank you. Versus, "I know24:49I'm dirt. Why are you telling me that?24:50It's the same thing, but it's Well, look24:52at the heart posture though,24:54>> right?24:54>> Right.24:55>> Yeah. I guess it's it's I guess you feel24:56bad because it's like I'm trying to make24:58an effort, but then he's saying like25:00don't make the effort. Yeah. Yeah. But25:02then true submission is like don't trip.25:05>> Yeah.25:05>> If you're tripping about the submission25:07or whatever part, then you're not25:08submitted. It's like,25:09>> look, I am. It's like, no, you're trip.25:11You're tripping about it, though.25:12>> Yeah.25:13>> Also, you were never submitted.25:15>> I'm always tripping. No, you got to like25:19>> accepting that you can't do anything and25:21then that's when it can enter. It's like25:23cuz when you when you keep trying, you25:24get in your own way. I forgot who I25:26think you said it, but it was like a25:27someone said it was like like a dog25:29trying to get a stick through a door.25:31It's like you can't take it with you.25:32It's like25:33>> once you leave it, you can get through25:34the door.25:35>> It's just strange. I'm I'm sorry my25:38brain goes there here, but it's like25:39it's just strange because it's like that25:42wouldn't work in a work workplace if25:44you're just like I just suck. You'd be25:46like the boss is like fired.25:49>> But it is working in a in a workplace. I25:52think we're proof of that.25:53>> Yeah. And it's like25:54>> Well, I don't want to name names of the25:56people that25:58>> Well, let's not go there. [laughter]26:01>> Yeah. You shouldn't go there. You're26:02always trying to fight people, Jeremy.26:04>> No, I'm not trying to fight you guys.26:05I'm just saying like there's like26:07>> tasks that have to get done and if26:08they're not done then it's like26:10>> and what if they're just26:12>> but that's what I'm saying. If they were26:13surrendered the tasks would get done.26:16>> Like if you sat there and was like hey26:18bro why aren't you doing it? They26:20wouldn't go well I'm trying. They would26:21go huh okay I I need to realign my heart26:25now. I need to do it.26:25>> Do whatever I have to do to get it done.26:27>> It's not like what the hell I am doing26:29it, bro. What are you talking about? And26:30then that heart becomes like very26:32calloused.26:33>> Yeah. I'm not saying it's it's wrong to26:35tell. We we go through that all the26:37time. It's like, well,26:38>> is it fair to say this, this, and this,26:40and we have dialogue, right? But it's26:42like there are certain people who just26:44don't work26:45>> and and they think like I deserve26:47everything.26:48>> And it's like, bro,26:50>> but why though? Well, because look at26:51me. I'm here. I showed up. It's like,26:53yeah, but that's not your heart. It's26:55not that you showed up that we're26:56worried about. It's your heart right26:58now. You're not willing to back down.27:00>> We're willing to tell you and walk. We27:02handhold crazy in this company so many27:05times and like we're we're walking but27:07then people they they can't get that27:08through their head. Like they're like27:10what? You're supposed to do that. It's27:11like no. Like you have to understand27:13we're giving you grace but you also have27:15to see the grace and be like oh okay27:18maybe I should be thankful. Maybe I27:19should think about other people. That's27:21the issue. That's the issue.27:23>> Clicked.27:24>> Yeah. Like if someone's not getting27:25something done at work,27:27>> there's the reason why. It's usually not27:29because oh27:30>> these guys suck. I'm not going to do27:32this. It's like there's some other not27:34reason that they haven't submitted to27:35that's keeping them from being able to27:37do it.27:37>> And it could be their own issues too of27:39like I I don't feel like I need to do27:42this or I can or I can sneak by these27:44people.27:44>> Dude, it's literally just I'm good. Like27:47that's the it's it's to dumb it down is27:49simple. It's like I'm good, so whatever27:51I think and feel is going to be that.27:54Like that's that's what's going to27:55motivate me is I'm a good person. So27:58yeah, if I slack off, if I don't take28:00notes, that's okay cuz I can do that.28:03Like this is this is the issue with like28:05people who don't follow things. They're28:07just really good. We we have a we know28:10we know there's people in our company28:11who we had to like kind of cut. No28:13disrespect to any of them, but we28:15there's hearts of just like I'm a good28:17person and I I know what I know and I do28:22things well and if you guys tell me to28:25do something, I don't agree with that.28:27Like, I'm doing what I'm doing and I'm28:29doing my best. And it's like, but that's28:31that's the heart of goodness28:32>> versus dang, I'm lucky to be at this28:36company. I'm not as good as what I think28:38I am. Those people work the best because28:41they're sitting there and they can be28:43guided. They can be like like molded and28:46be like, "Yo, I understand like I I get28:48what you're saying." You know what I28:50mean? So, yeah.28:51>> Right. And you're just always a student.28:53You're never like too far. Like it's28:55okay to be you can be a good person, but28:57then you just have to accept the28:58struggles that come with it. It's like28:59you always struggle to your to your own29:01goodness.29:02>> But that's why I think we're also so29:04hard on ourselves, right? is because29:07people are they have this expectation of29:09like I'm good and that they need to fix29:13things. So for my my example, why I was29:16so hard on myself in my life and29:18perfectionist is I need I feel like I29:21need to fix myself when truthfully like29:24I need to receive grace to even receive29:27the fixing and receive the word and like29:30you know there's times where a pastor29:32will say something and I just know29:34there's like a rock in my heart where29:36I'm like I know he's right but I don't29:38want to bend. There's that thing where29:40it's like I know I'm being stubborn at29:42that time, right? And so when I can't29:45meet that because I'm good and I expect29:47that of myself and I couldn't meet it,29:49that's when pain comes. So it's not29:51pastor telling me sleep or don't sleep.29:54It's more of like bro you're not good.29:58But that's the pain. It's like dang30:00because I didn't listen to you or I30:02tried to listen to him and I didn't30:03listen to him now I can't meet my own30:06expectation of being good then the pain30:08flows out of that. Does does that make30:10sense?30:11>> Yeah.30:11>> Right. And so it's it was painful for me30:14to acknowledge that I was weak because30:17no one's going to be like, "Hey guys,30:18yeah, I'm weak. I'm not qualified." Like30:20nobody wants that. The system of the30:22world is you have to like be strong. You30:25have to be motivated. You have to be30:27good. Right? But what pastor was saying30:30was Johnny, God allows all weakness to30:34you so that it strips all of the glory30:36away from you. Because if I'm super weak30:40and I can't do anything, then when I do30:43start to do things in a Christian30:45mindset, it all points to God basically.30:48Oh, this kid was carrying a gun. This30:50kid was a gang member. Why is he talking30:52about God now? Dude, it's not him. It30:54has to be God.30:56>> Like, so the weakness is there as like30:58almost like a forming field and a31:01construction site, if you will, that31:03points and builds like glory for God31:06essentially. That's why he used all of31:07these weak people in the Bible. Moses31:09was weak. Abraham pimped out his wife. I31:12mean, two times, by the way, King David,31:15you know, did some evil things, killed31:17people. Saul, who turned into Paul, was31:20literally persecuting Christians. It was31:22crazy. So, he always uses the the worst31:26people. And so, what pastor was teaching31:28me was, Johnny, you're not designed, and31:31no one here is designed to repair31:33themselves. That's why we need a savior.31:35We need a fixer and that fixer is God.31:37And so, you know, but again, Satan also31:42planted in my heart a lot like I would31:45say Satan hates weakness,31:47>> which is crazy, right? Like you would31:49think like, wait, what? He hates people31:51who are weak actually because if a31:53person is truly weak, then they have to31:56depend on God. So what he does is he he32:00boosts you up to be strong with pride32:03with your unlocks with your like you32:05know ego and to think that you're32:07actually amazing so that you could never32:10depend on God. When is it someone's32:12weakness versus them not taking simple32:14accountability,32:15>> right? Like someone could be like,32:19>> you know, imagine like a little kid32:20like, "Ah, I can't tie my shoes. I can't32:22tie my shoes." It's like, "You could tie32:23your shoes." And the parents just kind32:25of like, "Tie your shoes." And they32:26eventually figure it out. Or an adult32:28being like, "Oh, I'm so weak. I can't32:30like32:32>> I'm succumbing. I can't read the Bible."32:34Or whatever it is. It's like,32:35>> yeah,32:35>> well, you you choose to wake up and pick32:38up the blunt or doom scroll or whatever32:41it is.32:41>> So, I'll give you an example, right?32:43Like32:44>> weakness. If someone is truly broken in32:47spirit and weak, they will literally32:51not trust themselves because they're32:53weak. They're not they have they cannot32:55depend on themselves. So, back then,32:57Pastor Kim would say something crazy. He32:59goes, "All of you ministers, all of you33:01pastors here, we would have the early33:03morning service, and a lot of us would33:04stumble in late." And he would be like,33:06"So, we would have the minister service33:09before the early morning service." So,33:11we'd have to get up at 4:00. It would33:13start at 4:30 to 5:30. We'd chill for 3033:16minutes, and then it starts at 6:00 to33:18whatever for the morning service for the33:19brothers and sisters. So, we have a33:21service before the morning service. It's33:22like the morning early early morning33:24service. And I would always be late to33:27it. and he would check me bad. He would33:29be like, you know, you know, brother33:31Johnny, the reason why he's he's late is33:34not because he's weak. It's because he's33:36strong. And I'm just like, what the33:38heck? He's like, it's because he's so33:41strong. He doesn't need the word of God.33:43That's what he said. He's like, the33:45thing about me is that I know I have a33:48congregation. I handle all of the West33:50Coast pastors. I'm not able to even like33:54control my own life. How can I guide 5033:58other pastors from the west coast to34:01then guide their lives and their34:02congregation? So what do I do? I don't34:05trust myself to sleep in. I wake up and34:07search God and the scripture for the34:09answers that and I was like dang that's34:12so true. He's like you guys however that34:14are coming in late you guys are fine.34:17You guys don't need ah I'll sleep in34:19it'll be good. Like I can still run my34:21congregation. I don't need to go to the34:23Bible and search for answers. And that34:25like clicked to me. It made me realize34:27like, dude, I'm literally a person who I34:30cannot like I don't depend on God. I34:33depend on myself. And he even says34:35something crazy. If you use your alarm34:37clock to wake up, you're corrupted. I34:39was [laughter] like, dang. Right. Again,34:42he's like because you don't have a sense34:44of urgency to change. It's you don't if34:47you're truly use analogy of uh like like34:50someone who's who has cancer or someone34:52who's sick. A person who's like you know34:55maybe has the flu will rest up and is34:58not really life-threatening. So they'll35:00kind of like relax you know and they35:02won't really go to the doctor. But who35:04goes to the doctor? A person who has35:06cancer who's like I'm going to die. Like35:09it doesn't matter what I do. Like I have35:11to go and get this chemotherapy. I'm35:13literally if I don't I'm going to die.35:15Right? normal people, not stubborn, like35:16just regular normal people. So, in the35:19same way, he's like, you guys are all35:21like have sin inside of you, but to you,35:24it's not even an issue. That's why you35:25don't go to God. You don't go to the35:27hospital. You don't go to the Bible.35:29You're just like, "Yeah, I'm tired." You35:31know, and you and and he uses a lot of35:33analogies. He's like, it's kind of like35:34a person walking, right? There's there's35:37kids who play with the walker. Like at35:39our church, we have like some brothers35:40who are very old and they have walkers35:42cuz they cannot walk. And so the kids35:44will kind of like walk and and and play35:47with it. And he goes, "But when things35:50come down to it, let's say like it35:51inconveniences them, then they just35:53throw the walker aside and they just35:55walk normally." However, even under35:57inconvenience, even under like pressure,36:00even if they want to walk faster, if36:02they're con if they're truly sick, they36:05rely on that walker. They don't just36:07throw it away, right? In the same way,36:09you guys are like those kids who are36:11using the walker as a Bible. Oh, it's36:14fun until it's not and you just toss it36:16away.36:17>> And I was like, dang. So, he was showing36:19me like my heart. Like, you're not weak,36:22Johnny. You're actually in your heart.36:24You're very strong. A weak person36:26surrenders. A weak person gets boobed36:28and like laid out and that's it. They36:30don't like try to fight back. Like, they36:32will be like, I can't do it. And they36:34just give up. You guys are not giving36:36up. You think you're weak, he says, but36:38you're not actually weak. And I'm just36:40like, "Oh my gosh, that concept was very36:43difficult to understand." But when you36:44use analogies to explain it, I was like,36:47"Huh?" Okay. So, to answer your36:49question, [snorts] a person who's truly36:52weak, you will see like they just give36:54up. I see that in our congregations36:56where they're just like, "I don't date36:58anymore. Why? Not because I don't want37:00to, but I know like I don't choose the37:03right people." So, then they give it up37:05to pastor and they get married and37:07pastor chooses for them. And then there37:09people are like that's a cult because37:11they don't understand like they don't37:13understand submission. They still think37:15I can choose people. We had I was on a37:17podcast with you and there was a guy who37:20was like why would we you know he's one37:22of your co-hosts and he was like why37:24would we go and you know why would we37:26let these random people choose and37:28arrange our marriages? And then I37:30literally asked one question. How is it37:32working out for you choosing your37:33partners? He's like dang roasted. Like37:36literally he's like not good bro. I was37:38like right. But see, there's a mindset37:39of like even though he's messing up,37:42he's like, "What? I still choose37:44better." Like that if you do that, yeah,37:46you're not weak. You're strong. You're37:47not surrendered. You're just going to be37:48like, "Oh, that's cool. Yeah, I messed37:50up here and there, but I don't think I'm37:51fully messed up." So, yeah,37:53>> that is so true. Wait, so are you saying37:55it's cool to be weak?37:57>> Yes. Literally 2 Corinthians 12:9. I38:00know that's crazy, but it tells you, I38:02will boast in my iniquities, for when I38:05am weak, then I am strong. God's grace38:07is sufficient. So in order for us to38:09receive grace, we have to be weak. If38:12you if you can work for something, you38:13don't need grace. That's wages. You go,38:15okay, I put in x amount of hours, you38:18give me $4,000. Like that's a that's a38:20trade. Grace is I suck, but you still38:23gave it to me. Thank you. Right? So38:26grace is is unmmerited. It's something38:27that you don't deserve, and yet God38:30gives that to us. And this is how God38:32works in everything. In Christianity,38:34it's all about grace. So, I felt a38:37little guilty when you're saying that38:39because it's like I don't want an38:40arranged marriage. So, what should I do38:42if I have those feelings?38:44>> Yeah, you're not weak. That's the whole38:45point. Like,38:46>> I I I know expose yourself.38:48>> I know. I know. But so, but so,38:49[laughter]38:50but now I feel so38:51>> You should listen to the episode on38:52receptive skills.38:53>> No, no, no. But what I'm saying is38:56>> am I now a bad I'm now I'm now this38:59strong. To me, strong in this context.39:02Strong means you're stubborn,39:04>> right? You're stubborn. you're stuck.39:05>> Strong just means you think you can do39:06something. So even this question, I'll39:08unpack it for you. Watch. You think like39:11why do you feel guilty? Because you39:13think you can stop doing that. You think39:15that if you sat there, you can somehow39:17submit to pastor. But if you just39:20acknowledge that you didn't you can't39:21submit to him and you be like, I like39:23big booty Latinas. Then that's just what39:25it is.39:25>> Don't you're projecting. [laughter]39:29>> I never ever said my preference.39:31>> You did.39:31>> No. [laughter]39:32>> Many times. No, but it was you were39:34projecting.39:37>> Continue. No, you're you're about to39:40click it for me. It's about to make39:41sense.39:41>> Yeah. Yeah. So, again, [laughter]39:46>> so if you sit there and you're like, I39:48feel guilty. Condemnation only comes to39:51people who are good. So, I'm a good39:54person. I think I can do it. Dang, I39:57should be more surrendered. That's what39:58you're thinking. Dang, I'm not going to40:00allow pastor. I would never allow him to40:02do that. Oh my gosh. So right there you40:04start to think, "Am I not submitted to40:05pastor?" Am, bro, you were never40:07submitted to pastor.40:08>> If you just acknowledge that, then40:09you're like, "Oh yeah, I'm a piece of40:11garbage."40:11>> But then you So I guess I I I'm a piece40:15of garbage.40:16>> No, you're not.40:17>> No, I am a piece of garbage.40:18>> That's another question. [laughter]40:19>> Well,40:22I'm a piece of garbage.40:23>> But I have multiple garbage questions.40:25>> No, it's for the audience. [laughter]40:27>> Here, I'll unpack your question for you,40:29too.40:29>> You don't even know what I'm going to40:30say, but go for it. Well, no. I want to40:31unpack your previous question by asking40:33you some more questions. Why why40:34wouldn't you want an arranged marriage?40:36What do you think is wrong or like bad?40:39[laughter]40:40>> Huh?40:41>> Huh? It's crazy. Hey, can we cut40:43>> cuz there's no baddies in the church.40:45[laughter] No. No.40:47>> No. That's what it is.40:48>> No. Yeah, it is.40:51>> Don't cut that out.40:52>> That's so mean.40:53>> Now the church is under40:56that is so funny.40:57>> That's not what I was thinking.40:59>> Oh, that's not what I'm thinking.41:01There are baddies. There's spiritual41:02baddies in their heart. Shame on you.41:04Shame on you.41:05>> You're projecting again. [laughter]41:07I've never said this. You're projecting41:08again.41:09>> That's such a win. Like you're41:11projecting. Everything is just you're41:12projecting. [laughter]41:14>> Take It could be the marriage topic. It41:16could be certain things where I'm just41:18kind of like, "All right, I'm a piece of41:20garbage." So, so then41:23just walk around as a piece of garbage,41:25I guess.41:26>> No, that's what you walk around and you41:28depend on God. I'm a piece of garbage.41:30That's why I have to depend on God.41:32>> We're dirt.41:33>> Do you understand, Jeremy?41:34>> I I understand. I understand.41:36>> Does it make sense? Do you guys41:37understand? It does make sense.41:38>> But are you comfortable being the piece41:39of garbage? I'm just41:41>> I I am comfortable being the piece of41:42garbage. But it also makes me I'm kind41:44of like, huh? Okay.41:46>> Yeah. But because you're a piece of41:47garbage, that's why God loves you,41:49right? And he saved you. We don't41:51deserve anything. So we don't, guys,41:53don't think I'm negative self-talking41:55people to just be like, I'm a piece of41:56garbage walking around. Like no, I'm41:58saying when you acknowledge that and you42:00realize then it opens your mind to42:02realize how much you depend on God and42:05need to depend on God and how much that42:08you don't do anything for God, but he42:09does everything for you, then it42:11replaces the heart and you start to have42:13a heart of gold, not garbage. You start42:15to go, "Wow, although I'm flawed, God42:17doesn't throw me away. I'm truly weak42:19and I think I'm strong and God doesn't42:21check me like that. He literally42:23supports me." And in this way, that's42:25what nurtures you to then overcome the42:28fact that you're strong and you42:30acknowledge that you're weak. So, it42:32goes back and forth in this way.42:33>> I 100% get it. I I promise I 100%. Why42:38are you looking at me like that? You42:39don't think I get it?42:40>> You're projecting. [laughter]42:44>> But for42:47But you're giving me that face. Be42:48honest.42:49>> Just laughing. [snorts]42:51>> I can't smile. 100% get anything.42:54>> No, no, no. I'm I I understand the42:56concept. I'm just saying it's difficult42:58for me to apply because43:02>> yeah, I think I'm a good person.43:03>> So, exactly. So, it's it's important to43:06change. It's important to to be a good43:08person, guys. I'm not saying it's not.43:10But again, like when you don't reach43:12that expectation, you don't beat43:14yourself up for it. You acknowledge, oh,43:16this is where I need help. And that's43:18okay. Like people get to this position43:21where they start to mask, oh, I'm a good43:23person. Uh oh, I've just got exposed.43:26Oh, now I need to start. And then the43:27lying comes in, the manipulation. No, if43:29you just acknowledge who you are, at the43:32end of the day, you just grow it. Not43:35everyone is perfect. Not every everyone43:37has some kind of shortcoming, some kind43:39of lacking, some kind of weakness. And43:41that's okay. Acceptance is the literal43:45antidote to weaknesses. Because if43:48someone sits there and they're just43:50like, "You're a criminal." And I don't43:52think I am. I'm gonna be like, "No, I'm43:54reformed. I I study the Bible." But43:56like, it's a point. It's a position of43:58like I'm coming from fear and and I'm44:01scared, right, of like getting exposed.44:03But if I'm like, "Yeah,44:06you're you're a crim. Yeah. What happens44:09then?" Nothing. Nothing happens. You're44:11like, "Okay, cool." And it draws a line.44:14And actually, some people would be like,44:16"Whoa, this person is actually being44:17honest." Like, "Yeah, he's a person who44:19sucks." Like, I respect that. James44:21Sexon, we just had him on our pod. I44:24super respect the fact that he was like,44:26"There's just something that's missing44:28for me, and I don't have that faith like44:30that. I I I I'm too analytical. I'm too44:33logical. And maybe to my fault, but I44:37I'm not going to fake it." And we had a44:40beautiful conversation. It wasn't like,44:42"You need to stop distrusting. you need44:44to distrust your thoughts. I didn't even44:45have to tell him you're too strong. I44:47was just like, I'm going to pray for44:48you, bro. Cuz he acknowledges that about44:50himself, that he's a little too strong.44:53He acknowledges that he chases that44:54dragon of people validating him. What's44:58wrong with that, right? I think it would45:00be wrong if we ridiculed him for that45:02because he's being vulnerable about45:03that. He's being honest about that. So,45:05people want honesty, but they don't want45:07you to be that honest.45:09>> And then it's like, so then it's a45:11lose-lose. Okay, I want to be super45:13honest, but like no, you can't be cuz45:15I'll judge you for it. Okay, but then if45:17I don't tell you, then I'm close-minded45:19and I'm I'm a liar. It's like where45:22where's the balance here, right? So, for45:24me, I I'm I'm able to see people like45:26that and just acknowledge like whoa,45:28like he acknowledged himself. I saw a45:30lot of similarities like man, yeah, I45:32struggle with this, I struggle with45:34that, and I acknowledge that about45:35myself. And that's why I can't depend on45:37myself. I then go to God. Would you then45:40say it's good for somebody to45:43publicly talk about their weaknesses or45:46publicly talk about their what's strong45:47about stubborn about them?45:48>> I don't think so. I think it depends on45:51the people, right? So like because45:53sometimes what you're saying can trigger45:55other people, too. And at the end of the45:58day, like truth, it shouldn't be like it46:01should be for restoration. So, there's a46:04lot of people that aren't okay with46:06certain things or are ready for the46:08truth and they don't even realize that.46:10But there's kind of a dilemma because46:12people want the truth and you only find46:14out you're not ready for it after you46:16find out the truth, right? Like you46:18don't ever know I'm not ready. You a lot46:19of people think I can handle that truth.46:21I'll give an example. There's people46:22that I mentor that are in relationships46:25and [snorts] they always ask that silver46:28like that that question of that magic46:31question that's like how many people did46:33you sleep with? Who how was your ex?46:35Like they think that they could take it46:37cuz they're asking that. And as soon as46:39those things come out, bro, you don't46:41know how many people come to me and46:42start having retroactive jealousy. You46:44know, waking up in the middle of the46:46night like, "Was he bigger than me?" And46:48it's just like you're just like, "What46:50the heck, bro? He's 10 like 10 years46:53ago. He's 10 years ago. 10 years46:55[laughter] ago.46:56>> Oh.47:01Oh, I almost [laughter] I started cold47:04sweating.47:06The AC on in here,47:07>> bro.47:08>> That's not even [laughter] a real thing.47:10That must be made up. 10 years ago,47:14[laughter]47:14bro. Like 10 what?47:20>> [laughter]47:21>> Wake me up. Wake me up. Is this a dream?47:23Is this really a nightmare? [laughter]47:26>> That was crazy.47:28>> But but you know, things like that where47:30it's it's it's people think they want47:32the truth, but they don't, right? And at47:35the end of the day, we're also taught47:36about that too in our churches where47:38it's like people are not ready. Are47:39y'all ready to have that conversation? A47:42lot of people aren't.47:43>> Then how do you [clears throat] Okay, so47:45we're dating. You're a woman. I'm a man.47:47And it's like you're trying to be vo how47:49do I approach how do I approach you if47:52I'm like I do kind of want to get47:54something off my chest and I'm not sure47:57if you're ready for it47:58>> or vice versa you're like hey we should48:00both probably talk about certain things48:02that48:03>> but is it for restoration that's all you48:05have to think are you48:07>> find out if you told me the 10 thing I48:09would literally jump out the window but48:11>> no it's simple it's simple like what48:13does that have to do with anything48:15somebody's past let's say what does it48:16have to do with anything it doesn't48:18right rather if you're sitting there and48:20you look at someone and you go you know48:22what go ahead because I'm trying to vet48:25let's say it's like do I want to take48:27this relationship further is there like48:30your past sometimes can can help the48:33other person determine your character48:36>> in certain things right if I if it was48:38like let's say let's say it was like48:40[snorts]48:40>> yeah like honestly like I I went into48:43severe credit card debt multiple times48:44and I really struggled my finances for48:47I'd be like, "Okay, that's something I'm48:48going to be careful about. I'm I'm not48:50going to we're not going to just spend48:51willy-nilly. I'm going to draw the48:53boundaries sometimes if you use my48:55credit card."48:56>> That's fine. Yeah. I think again for48:58restoration, meaning we can sit there49:00and we can, you know, work on something49:03that plans a because that that is to49:05help your future. You can't be with49:07somebody who's bad with their money and49:09just runs up their credit cards and has49:11horrible credit, right? Like you also49:13have to be like that's fair to be like49:15hey but let's say that person using this49:18example is still struggling with that.49:20Oh man I do struggle with like splurging49:23right and you know that they're49:25struggling. I don't think it would be49:27smart to be like hey stop splurging.49:29Obviously they have an issue. They've49:31tried not to. It doesn't really help. So49:33how would you in this way the question49:35would not be tell them the truth and49:37then stop them from that. The question49:39is, how do I restore this person without49:41actually like hurting them? Can I sit49:44there and have a conversation? And if49:46you can't get past that, then you it's49:48not going to work.49:48>> What about something that a lot of49:51people hold inside of like porn49:52addiction? It's like, okay, I'm not49:53cheating on you. I'm not49:55>> But it is like,49:57>> yeah,49:57>> it could super insecure, but you're50:00trying to share it with them. So, you50:02could be like, "Help me through this."50:04Yeah,50:04>> but like how do you know like that could50:06ruin what50:07>> that would be up to the porn addicted50:09person to be like50:10>> dang like I don't think I think that50:12would this would hurt her.50:14>> I could take that risk. It's a risk.50:16>> You could, but I I don't I I wouldn't50:17tell him about it personally. I would be50:19like look you go to God about it more50:21than anything guys telling others. You50:23should confess to God, right? Like Lord,50:26this is what it is. Give me guidance. Is50:28this going to restore us? Because bro, I50:31know people who were like porn addicted,50:34had a great great marriages even, and50:37they get divorced as soon as they open50:39up because people are like again, "Wow,50:42thank you for telling me, but I don't50:43want someone like you. That's straight50:45up cheating on me." And they they have50:47this callous now. And when they explain50:50to me how that person is cuz they don't50:52know how to read heart posture, I'm50:53like, "Bro, I would have never said that50:55to that person. I would have never said50:57that to that." Like respectfully, I I50:59know that you want to open up, but51:01that's why good people do this. Well, I51:03need to tell them the truth cuz I'm51:05good, but you're actually ruining things51:07versus if you're like, I'm going to I51:09have faith that I'll get over this51:11myself. I don't think she's going to51:12really have to help me. I think it would51:14be worse. Let me go to God instead of51:16going to her. But they have this heart51:18posture of like, if I don't tell her,51:19then I'm an evil person. No, bro.51:21Whether you tell her or not, you're an51:23evil person. That's what they don't51:24understand. That's why I'm saying you51:25have to acknowledge yourself truly in51:28the Bible, not, oh, I feel bad, so let51:30me tell them. It's like you're only51:33doing that to pacify yourself, though,51:34if that's the case. Does that does that51:36make sense?51:37>> Right.51:37>> Right.51:38>> Is when you say go to God, right? A lot51:40of people will sit there and I've been51:42this person too where you're like, I'm51:43praying. I'm praying and you don't51:45really feel like change is happening.51:46Right.51:48>> Um,51:49is it51:51should you share everything with your51:52pastor? I think you should I think I51:56think Let me rephrase that. I think you51:59should share everything with God.52:00>> Why Why are you laughing? [laughter]52:02>> Because it's like, "Pastor, I just I52:04can't stop gooning all day, all night.52:06I'm just masturbating too much." Thank52:08you so much, pastor. Thank you.52:09[laughter]52:11>> By the way, my hands are sticky. I'll be52:12like52:14>> fist [laughter] bump. [gasps]52:16>> As Aaron's socks are crunching as he's52:19walking away.52:19>> Thank you for the help. [laughter]52:26>> [laughter]52:29>> But yeah, should you go to your pastor52:30with all that?52:31>> I don't think you have to. I think you52:33should go to him when it comes for52:35guidance. Obviously, I was taught to do52:37that. But many times you have to go to52:39God about these things, too, you know.52:41But every time I did go to pastor, I52:43realized my pastor who was gospel52:45centered never condemned me. I've told52:48him a gang of stuff, bro. a gang of52:51stuff. Am I Am I What? Did I condemn you52:53or something? [laughter]52:55>> I've never condemned you.52:56>> No, no, I'm laugh. No, I'm laughing at52:58all the crazy things you've probably53:00told pastor.53:00>> I told him a gang of crazy.53:01>> I know some of the things you tell me53:03that you told pastor. I'm like,53:05>> I don't care, man. [laughter] He going53:08to do he going to deal with me.53:09>> I'm like, pastor knows what that is. So53:12many times like he's a real one,53:13>> dude. Sometimes I have to explain things53:15to him. Okay, so the pastor this is what53:17it is. They they have to do this. And53:19he's like, "Why do they have to do53:21that?"53:22>> You just do. [laughter]53:24>> Go into detail.53:25>> No.53:27>> But I sit there and I'm like, like53:29there's things where I don't tell pastor53:31every single Well, I do actually tell53:33him every single thing, but there was a53:34time where I didn't and I was like, you53:36know what? I have to go to God about53:39this. And I think that's more important53:41than anything because look, there are53:43people out there I know who are like,53:45"But I went and I told my pastor and I53:47got exiled." Yeah, that happens. But53:49again, guys, that's why it's so53:51important to see a pastor53:54acknowledge his weaknesses and then also53:57acknowledge the gospel. A p it goes hand54:00in hand. People who believe in the54:02gospel are weak. Why? Because the gospel54:05is not for the perfect people. It's for54:07the weak people. So they would believe54:09in that. That's why a lot a lot of54:12people they're legalistic, you know, and54:14I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but54:15it's true. If you go to a past and you54:18talk about certain things like, "Oh54:19yeah, you know, I got this girl54:21pregnant. Are you married?" No. Oh, like54:23they start doing this, it's so bad. I54:26would not go to people like that. I54:28wouldn't even go to that church. That's54:30not skirting accountability. That's54:32bringing you into condemnation. That is54:34pride literally masked as discernment54:38and telling you you know conviction when54:41it's really condemnation. So I genuinely54:44believe like yes you should go to pastor54:47if the pastor is gospel centered number54:49one54:51or if they're not you should go to God54:54either way gospel centered or not go to54:56God first. That's the most important54:58thing. And and I've done that where I'm54:59like God if this is not what you want55:01please remove it. Bro literally removes55:03it. God will remove these things. If I'm55:05like, "Man, I don't know how to deal55:07with this." I go to transparently, I go55:09to God about the the core of the heart55:12all the time, whether it's brothers and55:13sisters, whether it's our internal team.55:16Like, literally, I go to God 24/7 about55:18it. And things always work themselves55:21out. Always work. I'm like, "God,55:23please, please, please make Jeremy not55:26gay." And it worked.55:29>> It worked.55:30>> Hey, one day, one day you're going to55:32pray. When you [laughter]55:34Hey, one day are you going to pray for55:35God to remove me and then I'll be gone55:37and then you're going to regret it.55:39>> No, don't do that. Don't say that.55:40>> Give us an example or or maybe teach55:43people out there how to go to God. So, a55:46lot of people think going to God is I55:49need to be polished and have this55:51perfect prayer and articulate every55:53single issue that I have to God. God is55:57omnipotent. He knows everything all the55:58time. Is everywhere all the time. He56:00knew when you were there committing your56:02sins. And so it's not about going to God56:05correctly. It's going to God honestly.56:08And when you go to God honestly, then56:10you're able to kind of share your heart56:13and it realigns you, too. People think56:16going to God is to have him fix certain56:18things. No, it's to realign with him56:20everything. Hey Lord, I don't know if56:24I'm walking crooked.56:26God, can you please show me like if I'm56:29doing that? And if I'm not, also show me56:31that. And if you do show me and I don't56:34see it, then Lord, please also help me56:37with that as well. Right? It's like56:39there's so many intricate details, but56:41you guys should be praying for56:43everything. We always take the biggest56:45burdens to God, but it starts with the56:48little burdens, too. It starts with56:50releasing the smallest things to him.56:52You know, Lord, I was a little56:53frustrated today. Do you feel like that56:55was okay? What do you think about it?56:58Going to God is always what do you think57:00about it? Not what can you do for me?57:03>> And do you legit like you'll straight up57:05like57:05>> Bro, I'll give you examples.57:07>> Yeah.57:07>> I do that every single day.57:10>> Every single day.57:11>> Man, we're giving you that much of a57:12hard time57:13>> all the time, dude. It's guy who's57:15>> Man, if I if I start first name starts57:17with J and first letter of his last name57:21starts with K.57:23And this guy, man, he's always always57:26stressing me out. No, I'm just kidding.57:27I'm totally kidding. No, what I do is I57:30pray like I'll go to God57:31>> and I'll pray for, you know, you guys57:35and I'll be like, "Lord, please help me57:38be a good leader." And if you don't57:40allow me to be a good leader, don't let57:43me miss the lesson in that. Like, why57:45wouldn't you? Cuz you could snap your57:46fingers and make me a good leader. But57:48if I mess up on certain things, I don't57:50I don't want to do just good. I want to57:52learn the lesson that you're trying to57:54teach me through all of this. Please57:56don't let me miss that lesson because57:57that's valuable. Like I don't want to57:59like just gain something and be like,58:00"Wow, shiny object." Like, "Forget you,58:02God. In all things, don't let me like58:05forget you." Right? I this I go all the58:08time about this when I stress out about58:09my brother still being kind of like, you58:11know, in the in the hoods, in the street58:13life and stuff. And he's changed his58:15heart recently in the early phases where58:17my brother did receive salvation. But in58:19my heart, I was like, "Dang, he's not58:21living the spiritual life that we need58:23to or he needs to." I wouldn't go and be58:26like, "Oh, hurt my brother, change him."58:28It was more like, "Hey, Lord, there's a58:31way that I see my brother. I don't know58:33if it's aligned with you. Lord, if it58:35is, God, can you either show me that58:38it's aligned, and if it is misaligned,58:41please show me that it is, and then you58:42take care of it for me." Because that's58:44not my brother. That's your son. So I58:46don't please don't give me the heart to58:48judge my brother. Rather allow me to58:50guide him. If that's my job, please58:53allow me to guide him. You see the58:54difference? It's not like Lord, please58:56fix my brother. Okay, he's struggling58:58with this. Please don't let him vape58:59anymore. Please don't. I don't do that.59:01It's more of like obviously God, you're59:04letting him do these things. I know59:05there's free will involved obviously,59:07but at the same time, there's a lot of59:09times where you didn't give me my free59:11will where you were literally like I'm59:12you're going here. I need to change59:14that. and you just did it. So if that's59:16the case, Lord, please also help my59:19brother with that. And man, has he59:20worked in my brother's like quoting59:22scripture now back to me59:23>> and I'm like plagiarism because he59:26literally will take what I said the59:28Bible.59:28>> No, he'll he'll he'll sit there and59:30watch our our our things and he'll say59:32the little lines and stuff like that,59:34>> you know? He's like, "Why are people59:36begging for forgiveness instead of59:37trusting the one that bled for59:39forgiveness?" And I'm like, I wonder who59:41said that. Hey,59:42>> cuz I know you ain't googling that. If59:44you love biblical lessons like this,59:46then you would love my weekly Bible59:48class. See you guys this1:00:32Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Standard1:00:35Time.1:00:35>> What should someone do if the prayers1:00:37aren't working at all? You know,1:00:39>> they're working.1:00:40>> But what are you sure?1:00:41>> Well, that's what [laughter]1:00:45>> I'm like trying to add.1:00:46>> Yeah. You're like, well, that's the1:00:47thing.1:00:48>> Well, I'm just curious like if you're1:00:49going to God about someone else's1:00:52weaknesses,1:00:53>> are you praying for someone else's1:00:55weaknesses or are you praying for your1:00:57own alignment with just1:00:59>> It's both, right? So, it's always a two1:01:02two two-piece meal, right? It's a two1:01:04pack two Yeah. two-piece combo.1:01:07>> Lord, I see weaknesses in them. If you1:01:11want to help them, please help them. But1:01:13also, if that's not the case, if that's1:01:15not a weakness and I'm misjudging or1:01:17that's a weakness that you're allowing1:01:18as a thorn to like push you back to push1:01:21them back to you, God also then give me1:01:23the heart too to realign with them.1:01:25Right? So, it's a it's it's both ways.1:01:27It's not always just like change him.1:01:29People always pray change this person,1:01:32change this person. My mom prayed like1:01:34modeled that prayer for years and then1:01:36nothing changed. When she started to1:01:38realize, hey Lord, change me. Change my1:01:41heart and obviously like let me have1:01:45faith in that whatever you're doing with1:01:48Johnny is exactly what you need to be1:01:50doing. I'm his mom and yes, I have this1:01:53pride. She straight up pray like, "I1:01:54have this pride that I know what's best1:01:56for my son, but Lord, you know what's1:01:59best for my son. So, like, please allow1:02:01me to align with that." Honestly, I1:02:04think she prayed that a couple times and1:02:06it just clicked. It worked.1:02:08>> And so, it's it's really just praying1:02:09for alignment, guys. People aren't are1:02:11praying too much for like health and1:02:14wealth. And yes, add that in. If you1:02:17want the hack, though, it's hey Lord, I1:02:20don't know. I don't know what to do. And1:02:22there's times where I feel callous even1:02:24praying like that because I know it's1:02:25the enemy. Like I'll be driving and I'm1:02:27like, "Okay, God, like I know I1:02:29shouldn't do that." And I'm like, "Nah,1:02:30but wait Lord, I don't know what my1:02:33heart is1:02:35>> and you've told me already my heart is1:02:37deceitful. So even if I'm praying for1:02:39alignment, Lord, only you know what1:02:42alignment actually is. So God, can you1:02:44please help me with that?" And if you1:02:46are helping me, please allow me to see1:02:48it. And if you don't want me to see it1:02:50also then allow me to accept that. Then1:02:52you have to see everything routes back1:02:54to him versus like, oh, I need to do1:02:57this and I please give me a million1:02:58dollars so we can build churches. It's1:03:00like sure1:03:00>> or give me wisdom and patience.1:03:02>> Give me wisdom, right? Give me wisdom1:03:03and patience. Give me help me overcome1:03:05this lust. Sure, add those things into1:03:07the regimen. But overall, the message1:03:10has to be God, I accept it. I accept1:03:13whatever it is. And if I don't, you help1:03:15me accept it. And if I I see it and if I1:03:18don't, you help me see it. Lord, what do1:03:20you think about this? It's literally1:03:22adding him into everything and depending1:03:25on him for everything.1:03:27>> Okay. So, yeah. So, I have a co-orker1:03:29who struggles with weakness. I mean,1:03:31they're super weak. Like,1:03:34>> they really struggle with weakness. Like1:03:35a really close co-orker of mine.1:03:38>> And I guess I just had a question for1:03:39them if they were listening. And this is1:03:41really more for them. But [laughter]1:03:45>> froze in front of a mirror for sure.1:03:48>> But but no uh like so are you are is it1:03:51okay to want to overcome your weaknesses1:03:54or are you supposed to submit to them1:03:56and pray for alignment1:03:57>> and listen up?1:03:58>> It is important to overcome but not in1:04:00the way that most people think. Right?1:04:02So1:04:03>> overcoming weakness is beautiful. It's1:04:05amazing. It feels great but it's also1:04:08dangerous because later you literally1:04:10strip away. I've seen so many people1:04:13strip it away from God. Like, I1:04:15overcame. Yes, Lord, I was obedient.1:04:18Yes, Lord, I prayed and I fasted. And1:04:20all you hear is I. Of course, they're1:04:23adding God, but like sometimes God1:04:26allows you to overcome your weakness to1:04:29show you how weak you truly are, right?1:04:31It's like1:04:32>> you thought that this was where your1:04:34weakness is. No, I use the weakness to1:04:36show you a greater picture of how wicked1:04:38your heart is in that when you overcome1:04:40it, you think it's all you. That is the1:04:43real weakness. Do you guys understand1:04:45what I'm saying?1:04:46>> So, the issue with that overcoming1:04:49things is that you become self-reliant,1:04:52self-sufficient, and you don't really1:04:54need God after that.1:04:55>> It's me for sure.1:04:56>> Me, too. All of us are this way, right?1:04:58If you kick Aaron, if you kick the an1:05:01addiction, let's say, you're literally1:05:04going to be like, "It was me who did1:05:05that." You're not going to sit there and1:05:07go, "Oh, wow. God, thank you so much."1:05:09Like, you may, but then later it's like,1:05:11"Oh, that's happened before. I can just1:05:13kick this addiction and this addiction1:05:15and like it become it puts you in the1:05:17driver's seat. It this happened so much1:05:19to me early on where pastor would1:05:21literally tell me like, "Do you really1:05:23think you overcame it?" And I'm like,1:05:25"Huh?" He used the story of the man1:05:28caught, the man in the uh infirmity for1:05:3138 years. There's a man who was1:05:32paralyzed for 38 years. And Jesus meets1:05:35him and he says, "Wilt thou be made1:05:37whole again? Do you want to be healed?"1:05:39Basically, and he goes, "Yes, but when I1:05:41go to the pool, there's no one that's1:05:42going to help me. And if I step in,1:05:44they're already before me." And he goes,1:05:46"So, yes, I want to be made whole, but1:05:48no one's going to help me." And then1:05:50Jesus says something really peculiar. He1:05:52goes, "Rise. Take up your bed and walk."1:05:56Why didn't he just say, "Rise and walk."1:05:58Why take up your bed? Your That bed is1:06:01filthy. It's been 38 years he's been1:06:04taking it with him. He probably peed on1:06:05it. He's pooped on it. Like there's all1:06:07kinds of stuff. But he's saying take it1:06:09up like over your shoulder and walk1:06:11basically to be like, "Yo, look guys,1:06:14this is where I came from." And never1:06:16forget that part. Because once he walks1:06:19by himself, then he's going to think,1:06:21well, I can run now and I can do this1:06:22and wow, I got my whole life back. It's1:06:24been 38 years, but I got it back now.1:06:26And we start to lose sight of God.1:06:29Whereas he's like, do you remember where1:06:31you were? You were in the mud like this1:06:33in that nasty bed. Carry that with you.1:06:36Frame that with you in your mind and and1:06:39move forward. Pastor Kim said something1:06:41to me that was such a bar. He said,1:06:42"Johnny, although you've gotten out of1:06:43prison, you need to always keep one of1:06:46those bars in your heart." And I'm like,1:06:48"Huh?" Like a prison bar in your heart1:06:50that you're only a gang member, that1:06:52you're only this prisoner, and that's1:06:54what's going to keep you humble. That1:06:56when you reach new heights now, he was1:06:57saying this years ago before I was1:06:59famous and all that. He was like, "God's1:07:02going to use you, but you don't you1:07:04cannot forget where you came from. You1:07:06cannot forget that." And so sometimes1:07:08God allows people to overcome their1:07:10weaknesses to show how truly wicked and1:07:12weak they are and and in believing in1:07:15themselves that they can overcome these1:07:17weaknesses.1:07:18>> So to summarize what you said, it's okay1:07:21to overcome your weakness if it was1:07:23through the grace of God. It's not1:07:25necessarily okay to chase overcoming1:07:28your weakness and constantly be fighting1:07:29for that for yourself as if you could1:07:31ever change that in the first place.1:07:32>> Right. And God is more because we want1:07:34to overcome weakness. Why? Because we1:07:37want to feel strong. Like flat out1:07:39that's what it is. And whether it's1:07:41strong in our obedience, strong in our1:07:43faith, we want to weakness. The opposite1:07:45of weakness is strength. We want to show1:07:47somehow that we're strong. Whether we're1:07:49we're obedient with God in that strength1:07:51and all these things. But when God is1:07:54more interested in how you trust him1:07:56versus your strength, right? A lot of1:07:58people want to flex to God how strong1:08:00they are. God is the strongest almighty1:08:03person. He wants us to see how weak we1:08:06are so that he can become our pillar,1:08:09become our strength, become our1:08:10stronghold. The issue is people think1:08:12like, "No, I need to overcome these1:08:15things." And then at the end of the day,1:08:17they literally become self-sufficient.1:08:19I've seen it so many times. Christians1:08:22are like, "Man, I was win after win1:08:23after win. And now, bro, I just feel1:08:25like distant from God. I don't1:08:28understand why I'm I'm going through1:08:30these things." There's a hot take here,1:08:32too, right? Like if you're sometimes the1:08:35Bible says you have to boast in your1:08:36weaknesses. So Paul had a weakness, a1:08:39thorn on his side and he had it until he1:08:41died. He went to God three times about1:08:43it and God didn't fix it for him. But1:08:45because of that he was dependent on God,1:08:48right? So it came from a perspective. It1:08:50shifted my my mindset when I read 21:08:52Corinthians verse uh chapter 12 because1:08:55I'm like man who would be happy about1:08:57their weaknesses but he's not happy1:08:59about his weakness. He's happy that that1:09:01weakness keeps him dependent on God. And1:09:03so that is something that I've learned1:09:05too where I'm like, man, I do struggle1:09:07with whether whatever men struggle with1:09:09pride, ego, anger, lust, most men1:09:13struggle with these things. But that's1:09:14the exact reason why I can't trust1:09:16myself and I have to surrender daily to1:09:18God to be like, "Hey Lord, please help1:09:20me with everything." And so this is1:09:22actually almost like your door to meet1:09:25God is when your weakness is the door to1:09:28meet God essentially. I guess a lot of1:09:31times we tell people1:09:34>> um that they're looking to live like a a1:09:37spiritual life of peace and happiness1:09:38like if there's a version is there a1:09:41version where you don't struggle with1:09:43everything you do reach true peace and1:09:44happiness but then how do you stay1:09:46connected with God if that's the pillar1:09:48is your struggle? So there is a um you1:09:51get to a point where you're very1:09:53thankful that you don't struggle and you1:09:55become hyper sensitive to when you did1:09:57struggle.1:09:58>> Oh,1:09:58>> right. So it's like, oh, I remember I1:10:01used to struggle with this and I don't.1:10:03Then the happiness comes and you're po1:10:05you're pushing it back to God, right?1:10:08And and that that's happened with all of1:10:09us, I think, where we're like, dude, we1:10:11I remember the airport situation where1:10:13you sat there and you're just like had1:10:15airport anxiety and you're like, don't1:10:16trust your thoughts. And like right1:10:18there it like helped you like literally1:10:20pulled you out of it, right? I've seen1:10:22Jeremy multiple time myself too where1:10:24I'm just like I like I overlook it but1:10:27I'm like yo I used to trip about this1:10:30like if I didn't have control of this1:10:32and how come now I'm just like yeah1:10:34that's fine. I was big on wishy-washy1:10:37things. So like if people say something1:10:39and we have a contract like we have a1:10:41verbal agreement and then someone flips1:10:43it for whatever reason I'll flip. I was1:10:47crazy like that. And I'll be like,1:10:48"What? But you said you're gonna do1:10:50that." Yeah, but it doesn't matter1:10:51though. You said it though. And this was1:10:52just prison mentality. If you say you're1:10:54gonna give me something, I don't care.1:10:56Your mom didn't get it for you. You told1:10:57me that. So, we need to hold our word.1:11:00So, when when Jeremy changed the1:11:03contract about the floor with like I1:11:06need this much to be able to make, we1:11:08need to make this much. He led like that1:11:10too, right? But I won't be able to like1:11:12and I'm just like you bloody. Right. But1:11:16I was literally like, "Okay." And then1:11:19you were like, "Wow, that was really,1:11:22[laughter]1:11:23that was so fast." I was like, "Yeah,1:11:24that's fine."1:11:25>> Before BC, Johnny, oh my gosh. I'll be1:11:28like, [laughter] "But why you say that1:11:30though? How come you didn't address that1:11:31the first time?" And then it would And1:11:32then he would think I'm stupid cuz he'd1:11:34be like, "Bro, what the hell are you1:11:35talking about? This is" And I'll be1:11:36like, "It doesn't1:11:36>> It wasn't I wouldn't think you're1:11:37stupid. My lawyer was the one that was1:11:39secretly behind the scenes advising."1:11:41>> Oh, was he? No, I'm kidding. [laughter]1:11:42I'm kidding.1:11:43>> I found out with you, honestly. Yeah,1:11:46>> this is my financial adviser here.1:11:47[laughter]1:11:50>> Yeah. Yeah, but my lawyer Yeah.1:11:53[laughter] My lawyer was the one that1:11:55was kind of giving me counsel.1:11:56>> No, he's greedy. No, he's greedy. He's1:11:57greedy. He's here. This1:11:58>> No, what I'll say is No, I I didn't know1:12:00that was going to happen. But I've never1:12:02seen you trip ever. And that's why I was1:12:05wondering like when you were talking1:12:06about the the No, like I've seen you get1:12:08upset, but I've never seen you actually1:12:10like pop off. Yeah. Yeah.1:12:11>> And it's like um when you were talking1:12:12about with pastor, you're like, "Oh, he1:12:13said something and I was about to bite1:12:14his head off." I'm like,1:12:16>> "Have you really have you ever popped1:12:18off on pastor?"1:12:20>> 100%.1:12:23I believe that years I've never seen it.1:12:26>> I believe it.1:12:27>> Early on, I I would um I would threaten1:12:29pastor like not in a in a in a way of1:12:32like physicality, but it was more of1:12:34just like, "All right, I'll just leave1:12:36then." And then like he would just be1:12:38like, "That's your go-to. like you're a1:12:40runner, you know, and then I would be1:12:42like I would blow up. As soon as someone1:12:45would touch that pain point of mine,1:12:47you're a runner or you you you just1:12:49skirt accountability, I would go boom. I1:12:53would [clears throat] just blow up. So I1:12:54remember like smashing the table like1:12:57boom and like breaking it and I was just1:12:58like, "So what?" You know, and he's just1:13:01like, "Okay, but Johnny, you can yell,1:13:03but like you're still like you're still1:13:04a runner, [laughter]1:13:06>> bro. Double down, bro." And he he would1:13:10say things like, you know, man, I wish1:13:12like I should have let Johnny hit me cuz1:13:15he probably would have felt bad after1:13:16that. And like I was just like, dang.1:13:18Like, and he's right. I would have, you1:13:19know, but I would leave. I would leave.1:13:21And uh I popped off then. I I've popped1:13:25off on Pastor Han before um when he, you1:13:29know, was just trying to help me. You1:13:31know, he was telling me that I was an1:13:32evil person. And I'm like, bro, what the1:13:35hell? Like, we were all good. Why are1:13:36you telling me I'm evil? and and he1:13:38shared with me that he really loved me1:13:41and he but he had a heart of like as1:13:44much as I love Johnny like I'm not his1:13:46savior but like I almost feel like I'm1:13:49his savior like he was very he said he1:13:51said in his testimony I'm very drawn to1:13:53Johnny like he's just very like cool so1:13:55when I seen him I seen him as my son but1:13:58[snorts] I had this kind of feeling of1:13:59like dang if I do this I'm not going to1:14:02chastise Johnny I'm not going to help1:14:04him grow and we'll both like lose like1:14:07our way. And so when he was sipping1:14:09coffee, I remember he looked at me. He's1:14:11like, "Bad man." That's what he said.1:14:15And I was like, [laughter]1:14:17"What the hell?" Cuz he has horrible.1:14:19Imagine getting grilled but then grilled1:14:20in broken English is like [laughter] way1:14:23worse, right? You bad. And I'm like,1:14:26"Okay, what the hell?" Like, uh. And I1:14:29laughed and he didn't laugh. He's like,1:14:31"You really bad." And I was like, "Why1:14:34is this fool tripping?" and his wife uh1:14:37Jean Samim she was cool she like speaks1:14:40full English you know and I was like1:14:42someone what the and she was kind of1:14:43shocked too she just looked at him and1:14:44she's like1:14:46he's kind of on one right now you know1:14:48and so I was like man whatever I just1:14:51get up and I was walking out and it was1:14:55recently that one deacon or elder became1:14:57an elder and it was at his house he's1:14:59like an older dude this was years ago1:15:01obviously and he just like chased me out1:15:04the pastor pastor John was like,1:15:06"Johnny, what's wrong?" You know, like,1:15:09and I was just like, "I'm pissed. Like,1:15:11why you do that? Everything is cool. Why1:15:12are you like Buzz Killington right now?"1:15:14You know, like I'm [snorts] all sitting1:15:16there like, "I finally feel like I'm1:15:17loved here and you just like flip my1:15:20foundation. Like, what are you doing?"1:15:22And then he's like, "Wow, I'm really1:15:23glad I did that." And I'm like, "You're1:15:25glad you did that? Why?" And he's like,1:15:27"Because look at you. Like, you you only1:15:30are here for the vibes."1:15:32>> And I was like, "Well, what's wrong with1:15:33that?" And I had a mouthpiece, you know,1:15:36and and he speaks Mandarin. So I was1:15:37telling him in Mandarin and I was like,1:15:39"Whatever." And then he's like, "So what1:15:41do you want to do, Johnny? Like, are you1:15:43trying to run away?" And I was like,1:15:45"Yeah." But I was pissed. I got so mad1:15:47that I wanted to like knock him out.1:15:49Legit. I had the heart like, "I'm going1:15:51to just knock this dude out, you know,1:15:53which is crazy. Knocking out a pastor is1:15:55crazy." But I was up to here because he1:15:58touched a a pain point of mine where1:16:01he's just like, "You think you're good,1:16:02but you're like really evil." And I'm1:16:04like, "Dude, do you understand that I've1:16:06been told I was evil all my life and I'm1:16:08trying to do good right now? I feel like1:16:10you're so insensitive to my situation.1:16:13Oh, you're trying to troll me." That's1:16:14how I took it as like, "Oh, you're1:16:16you're a piece of garbage. You're not a1:16:18good pastor."1:16:19>> Actually, he was fighting for me, right?1:16:21So,1:16:21>> yeah. And him too. He was just like,1:16:24man, he he went through a lot, bro. He1:16:26went through a lot with me genuinely,1:16:27pastor. Shout out to him. But I learned1:16:29so many lessons through him to be like,1:16:32"Oh, I didn't know my heart was like1:16:34that." But he kept showing me my heart.1:16:37And he was like, "You're you're this.1:16:39You think you're this, you're not this,1:16:40you think." So every time when I see1:16:42people on Discord, I see certain people1:16:44like I could see their heart posture1:16:46because I literally went through that.1:16:48>> Yep.1:16:48>> Right. And I'm I was self-righteous to1:16:50the core. And he's like, "We need to1:16:52break this." And they and our pastors1:16:54are down. I They're just down to be1:16:57like, "I'll break it for you." Like,1:16:59I'll get socked in the face, but I'll1:17:01break it for you. And in the end, you're1:17:02going to see this lesson, and you're1:17:04going to grow from it. And every single1:17:06person's like that. Pastor John Choy1:17:07went through that. All the pastors went1:17:09through the way that we went through.1:17:10And now, obviously, a lot of people are1:17:12more softer. So, you know, they're1:17:14they're not as as like that anymore1:17:16because the generation has just became1:17:17softer. Honestly, I ain't even trying to1:17:19disrespect all the other people, but you1:17:22guys have it good. When you're sitting1:17:24there and you're constantly being told,1:17:25"Do this and then flipped and then1:17:28testing and, you know, trying your1:17:30patience." It does build a character in1:17:32people to go, "All right, I understand1:17:34the program. I'm going to get with it."1:17:36Versus like if you if you can't sink, if1:17:38you don't swim, you're going to sink.1:17:40So, they threw us out there and it was1:17:42like spiritual life blitzkrieg. It was1:17:45just like a thousand p miles, you know,1:17:48per hour basically. And and I had to1:17:50learn very fast that I wasn't the center1:17:52of attention that I wasn't a good1:17:54person. And like legit, I had a lot of1:17:57weaknesses. And I need to learn to sit1:18:00in my weakness, not run in from my1:18:02weakness. And that was very difficult.1:18:04But even till this day, right, I'll be1:18:06honest, there's times where the1:18:08weaknesses pop up and my my my my1:18:10habitual feelings are like I want to1:18:12take off. The first thing I ever want to1:18:14do is just dip.1:18:15>> I'm just like, you know what? Whatever1:18:17money I got, I'll just put it in1:18:19whatever and go to a comp a country that1:18:22it stretches my money like 300fold and1:18:25just dip out.1:18:26>> Which country?1:18:26>> You know, I Colombia [laughter]1:18:29>> starts with a C.1:18:32>> China.1:18:33>> No, [laughter] that one. Money. Money1:18:35stretches.1:18:35>> Cambodia.1:18:36>> No,1:18:37>> rhymes with that one.1:18:38>> Rhymes with that one.1:18:40>> Um, but yeah, sorry to cut you off. it.1:18:42No, but genuinely though, I'm I'm like,1:18:44dang, I I you know, um kind of struggled1:18:48with those things. And again, it comes1:18:51back to acknowledging like, okay, I'm a1:18:54person who wants to run. Just cuz I want1:18:56to run doesn't mean I'm doing it. And1:18:59I'll kind of shock myself, too, cuz I'll1:19:00sit there and then it'll be It really is1:19:03God, man. Like, every time I feel like1:19:05that, Pastor John calls. Pastor Kim1:19:08calls. Like, it's so crazy, bro. like1:19:11they don't call often, but it's when I'm1:19:14going through it and I can't like share1:19:16it with the team or I can't share with1:19:17anyone and I'm just like going in my1:19:20prayer and boom, pastor will call me.1:19:22Yeah.1:19:22>> So, were you going through it today?1:19:24>> No, no, no, not today.1:19:26>> No, Jeremy.1:19:28>> Well, you said you got a call from him1:19:29this morning and it was a good call.1:19:30>> Oh, no. That was a good call. That was1:19:31about the church stuff.1:19:33>> Okay.1:19:33>> He was like, "Congratulation.1:19:35>> You are sanctified." [laughter] But it1:19:38was like really not. And he said that1:19:40you are justified that you are1:19:41sanctified. I was like thank you moanim1:19:44but your dirt. I'm like okay. Do you1:19:47ever throw him at your dirt back?1:19:48>> Oh hell no bro. [laughter]1:19:50Hell no. I'm not you.1:19:55>> No [snorts] I'm definitely not.1:19:57Definitely not. But yeah.1:19:59>> Still can't wait to have Pastor Kim on1:20:01someday.1:20:01>> Dude, he he will. He will.1:20:03>> And I just really want you to take1:20:05everything he said at that last part,1:20:07really absorb it. You know, you got it1:20:08on easy mode.1:20:10>> I know. I think that1:20:12>> you got it on easy mode.1:20:13>> But I think that about I believe you1:20:15because it's true. I feel about like a1:20:17lot of things like and they were saying1:20:19that about our generation too. But I'm1:20:21saying like school is easier. These kids1:20:23aren't even reading at the same reading1:20:24level anymore. Tests are easier. Like1:20:27>> and and they were saying that even when1:20:29we even when I was coming up, the older1:20:31people would always, oh, you guys have1:20:32it so easy. And people will always just1:20:34be saying that. But I believe it's true.1:20:36Just because people are soft now.1:20:39>> Mhm.1:20:40>> Yeah.1:20:40>> Um1:20:41>> and people are just smarter. They're1:20:42just smarter. So like it's easier to1:20:45trust yourself nowadays. A lot of values1:20:47are kind of like gone and and this1:20:50individualism is very toxic where it's1:20:52like you matter and everything, you1:20:54know, but I came in an era where it1:20:57doesn't matter what you feel. It's all1:20:58about God. And so you had to put1:21:01yourself second. You had to put yourself1:21:02last sometimes. And it really helps, you1:21:05know, uh to to kind of go through that.1:21:07But it's it's it turned a lot of people1:21:10away, you know. It reminds me of like1:21:12Jesus when he's like he had like 701:21:14disciples at one point and then it1:21:16dwindled down to 12 because1:21:19>> 70 never I didn't know this.1:21:21>> Yeah. A lot. And in the end it he had1:21:24multiple actually, but it comes down to1:21:2612. And he tells them, "Will you guys1:21:28leave me too because of the way that I1:21:30speak and say things because I challenge1:21:32you?" And I'm just like, dang. Like, and1:21:35they stayed. Well,1:21:36>> 11 of them did, you know. And so, the1:21:39end of the day, I think, you know,1:21:41weaknesses, it's so good to have your1:21:44weaknesses. Past traumas, I know this1:21:46sounds crazy, is good for you. Uh, it1:21:49molded me to be who I am. It molded you1:21:52to be who you are. And everything really1:21:55was a lesson or a blessing. But a lot of1:21:57people think, you know, ah, I I I don't1:22:00want to acknowledge this trauma. When1:22:02you acknowledge trauma, then you're able1:22:04to take that trauma and then give it to1:22:06God. Like plug Jesus into it. And1:22:09acknowledging trauma plus adding Christ1:22:11into it. Uh it's a recipe for healing.1:22:14You start to heal and go, "Oh, I1:22:17understand now why I had to go through1:22:18that." Too many people are stuck on why1:22:21did I have to go through that? If God is1:22:23good, why? Why? Why? Versus, I get it1:22:26now. I understand. And even if I don't1:22:28understand, I'll give it up to God1:22:29because I don't need to question God's1:22:31character because human beings who1:22:33weren't under God did something to me,1:22:36right? It's like we we don't have to do1:22:38that. There's also another perspective1:22:39where it's like, Lord, thank you. You1:22:42know, I have a lot of traumas. I was1:22:44essayed when I was 12 by a 17-year-old1:22:47girl, which kind of twisted my mentality1:22:50on women. And uh I used to think, why1:22:53did God allow those things to happen?1:22:55And then when I started doing mentoring1:22:57before I met you guys, I was having a1:22:59wave of people who were getting who were1:23:02assaulted and I and I was like, dang,1:23:05[clears throat] I could never relate to1:23:08them had I had not been through that.1:23:10You know what I mean? So, but for the it1:23:12took how many years for me to see that1:23:14from 12 all the way to1:23:16>> 28?1:23:17>> Like not even 12 to like 30 32.1:23:23Like it took 20 years for me to go oh1:23:26snap that's why you I get it now and1:23:29everyone's like they're like wait you1:23:31did too like because they'll come and1:23:32they'll be like there's something that1:23:34happened and I don't want to go too in1:23:36detail but it involved a family member.1:23:37It's always vague like this and they did1:23:39something in it but then when I'm like1:23:41oh me too and I speak so freely they1:23:43just connect. Wow wait you went through1:23:45that too and I'm like yeah I literally1:23:47went through like did I do something1:23:49wrong and they're like that's how I1:23:50feel. like was it because I did1:23:52something wrong and they did that to me1:23:54and am I wrong because I liked it and oh1:23:56yeah I liked it too and it was like wait1:23:58what that's not a normal person who1:24:00doesn't have that trauma would not be1:24:02able to understand that they would be1:24:03like yeah you just have to give it up to1:24:05God it's like yeah but we walked through1:24:08that though and we overcame that and I'm1:24:11kind of like a beacon of hope for those1:24:13people and I didn't even plan that I was1:24:16just more like if you guys want me to be1:24:18honest I was like dude did something1:24:20happen to me like did did she do1:24:23something to me and have other people do1:24:25stuff to me? Like I was for the longest1:24:27time like dang did I get like1:24:29like in another way, right? And I'm1:24:32like, did that happen to me? Cuz I1:24:34remember I got thrown out by like four1:24:36dudes. So I was like, "Oh my gosh, is1:24:38that what it was?" And again, even God1:24:40cleared that up for me, too. Was like,1:24:42"Nah, bro. None of that happened. That1:24:44was her cousins and she was like the1:24:46daughter of the shot caller, basically.1:24:47So, you know, they just toss you to the1:24:49side because she's she couldn't carry1:24:51you. And I was like, "Oh, shoot." And it1:24:54was wild. So, that received clarity. You1:24:57know, I'm able to still relate to a lot1:24:59of other people now because of it.1:25:01People watch that and like, "Bro, I've1:25:03been through that, too." You guys would1:25:05be surprised how many people have been1:25:06assaulted. Like, I know a lot of people1:25:09who are like, they don't say anything,1:25:11but they were assaulted, whether it's by1:25:12an auntie or and especially men, because1:25:15we can't talk about that. Like I was1:25:17going out there, I was 12 years old and1:25:19I was trying to ask like, "Oh, this1:25:21girl, she did this to me." And the guys,1:25:24they were teenagers were like, "You're1:25:25lucky." And I'm like, "Wait, I'm lucky,1:25:29but it doesn't feel right though." No,1:25:31but you're lucky, bro. Like, she's so1:25:33fine, blah. And I'm just like, "Okay."1:25:35And like, it was so it messed with my1:25:37innocence, bro. Straight up. And it like1:25:40twisted my view of like how women are.1:25:42And then it made me feel like I got1:25:44taken advantage of and I could and I1:25:46couldn't even control that. I'm like,1:25:47"Dang." Okay, so I can't control my1:25:49house with my dad beating me up. I can't1:25:50control my mom like being an actual mom.1:25:52I can't control my homies. I can't1:25:54control getting jumped and I and I can't1:25:56control this either, man. F that. I'm1:25:57going to be a control freak now. I'm1:25:59going to control everything in my life.1:26:01And that that right there turned me into1:26:02a monster straight up. Daily devotions1:26:04are back and they're in your email every1:26:06single day. I start with the word of God1:26:08and I share that with you guys so that1:26:10you can also have the same peace, hope,1:26:12and happiness that I move forward1:26:14throughout the day. Every morning, I1:26:15send you a piece of scripture and an1:26:17explanation to help you with your1:26:18spiritual walk. There's nothing more1:26:20powerful than starting your day with the1:26:21word of God. This quick 2 minutes each1:26:23morning will set you up for the rest of1:26:25your day. These are 100% free. So, if1:26:27you want to sign up for the emails, link1:26:29in the description. So, sometimes I feel1:26:31guilty and especially early on in my1:26:34walk, I would feel really guilty as a1:26:36Christian. I would do certain things be1:26:37like a I know I shouldn't have done1:26:38that. And I would have this question and1:26:41it lingered for a long time. How do I1:26:43know if this guilt is from God or if1:26:45it's from the enemy? And the best way to1:26:48actually tell is if the guilt makes you1:26:51run away from God, run from him1:26:53essentially, then it's not from God,1:26:55right? And this guilt feeling first and1:26:58foremost is never from God. God never1:27:00shames you or guilts you. He's in there1:27:02in the pain and he's actually like1:27:04fighting for you. And so if you look at1:27:07Adam and Eve, it unlocked it for me when1:27:09I saw just after they committed sin,1:27:12they felt guilt. And God was like,1:27:15"Adam, Adam, where art thou? Where are1:27:17you?" And the first thing they did was1:27:18they ran. They ran, right? After1:27:20covering it up, they ran. Why would you1:27:22cover something up? Because you're1:27:24guilty of it. You don't want it to be1:27:25exposed. And secondly, you ran away. But1:27:27I noticed that God never ran away from1:27:30them. He walked towards them. And so1:27:33that made me realize that God is not1:27:35ashamed of your guilt. He's not like1:27:37angry at you for being a sinner. You're1:27:41born that way. You didn't have a choice1:27:42to even choose to sin. You're born into1:27:44it. And God wanted to show you that,1:27:46hey, I accept you for your weaknesses.1:27:49In fact, I walk towards you not to hurt1:27:52you, but to heal you and to help you1:27:54with everything, right? Different ages.1:27:56So, I'm very thankful that, you know,1:27:59God was able to show me through Adam and1:28:01Eve's story that there is no1:28:03condemnation. Like, I'm not condemning1:28:05you. I didn't curse you. I cursed the1:28:06ground. It says cursed is the ground for1:28:08your sake. And that's why we die because1:28:11our flesh is made out of the afar, which1:28:13is dust and the dirt of the earth. And1:28:16so what if you guys have that feeling1:28:19where it's like you're stupid, you're1:28:21dumb, you you're too guilty. That's who1:28:25you are now. That is not from God. God1:28:27will never say that. God will be like,1:28:29"Hey, of course you did wrong, but1:28:31return back to me. And I'm here for you1:28:34regardless of what you did. And I nailed1:28:36that even to the cross." So walk in that1:28:39identity. Um and and I was able to kind1:28:41of tell this way, right? And guilt will1:28:44always draw you away from God1:28:46essentially. And guilt also attacks who1:28:50you are, not what you did. And I know1:28:52it's a little confusing, but when people1:28:55feel guilty, oh, I shouldn't have1:28:56cheated or I shouldn't have done this,1:28:59right? And then you feel extreme guilt.1:29:01Really, what it is is that guilt is1:29:04attacking your identity now. Like1:29:06because I cheated, because I did1:29:07something, I'm not a good person1:29:09anymore. So, it's actually attacking1:29:11deeper than just the surface level of I1:29:14shouldn't have done that. It's more of,1:29:16wow, I did that and now I can't sit1:29:18there and boast about how good I am. I1:29:21can't sit there and say I'm a good1:29:22person anymore cuz I did something evil1:29:24or bad. And with that, as long as we1:29:27acknowledge that, we're able to go,1:29:28okay, this is not from God. Yes, I did1:29:31those things, but this is exactly why1:29:33God is here for me. This is exactly why1:29:35God has to deliver me from these things.1:29:37So1:29:38>> you feel guilty when eating snacks.1:29:40>> Let's not get1:29:41>> Do you run towards God or away from God?1:29:43[laughter]1:29:44>> No, I just blame you guys.1:29:47>> Yeah, that's true. We go to dinner and1:29:49then he texts us afterwards. Never again1:29:52>> and does it the next week.1:29:54>> No, I'm in a perpetual losing the same1:29:56five pounds over and over cuz1:29:58>> good. Well, our struggle keeps us1:30:00connected with God. [laughter]1:30:02>> Um, so I have a question about more1:30:04weakness. Seven. One more weakness1:30:06question. So, when you you do a lot of1:30:08one-on-one mentorship, what have you1:30:10seen are some of the big biggest1:30:12weaknesses that ruin a relationship?1:30:15>> Uh poor acknowledgement of those1:30:18weaknesses. So, like not acknowledging1:30:21because of pride or ego or just being1:30:24good that they're weak.1:30:26>> Like it's okay.1:30:29There are people who have cheated and1:30:31I've literally reconciled it back. like1:30:33restored that marriage because they1:30:35literally just acknowledge, oh, that's1:30:38who I was. Yeah, I messed up. When1:30:40people like catastrophically end is when1:30:44they go, no, I messed up, but like you1:30:46messed up, too. And they don't1:30:48acknowledge that point of like, I messed1:30:50up. I'm sorry. There is no butt. Like,1:30:54how are we going to handle this? Right?1:30:56So, that number one, uh, number two,1:30:58people are not um aligned with God. So1:31:02they trust themselves. The second thing1:31:04is always trusting yourself. So if you1:31:06don't trust yourself, how are you going1:31:08to end up cheating or ruining your1:31:10relationship? You'll sit there and1:31:12you'll ask your significant other for1:31:14everything. And I know certain people1:31:16who even dislike that. Like I I was1:31:18mentoring a girl and she's like, "My1:31:20husband is not like a man. He literally1:31:22asks me for everything. Hey babe, what1:31:25do you think about this? Hey babe,1:31:26what?" Like she was misunderstanding his1:31:28respect for her as like, "Bro, you're a1:31:30decision maker. make some freaking1:31:31decisions, you know. But then I I1:31:34shifted her perspective to go, but he's1:31:36confirming with you, which shows1:31:38respect. He's not depending on you. Of1:31:40course, he can make these decisions, but1:31:42he's like, I want to include you into1:31:45that. And she was like, yo, I feel1:31:47horrible. I didn't realize that he was1:31:50actually loving on me. I was just more1:31:52like, what the heck? Like, why you need1:31:54me to make the smallest, simplest1:31:55decisions? Like, oh, am I going to pick1:31:58up my daughter? are you going to pick up1:31:59your It's like he was thinking that1:32:01because he wants you to spend time with1:32:02her and he doesn't want to like step on1:32:04your toes like he wants to go and spend1:32:06time with her but he took her out for1:32:07four days like he wants you to you know1:32:09and and have that kind and she's like oh1:32:11shoot I didn't even think about it like1:32:13that I was just more like that's your1:32:14daughter pick her up like what are you1:32:16doing and it wasn't it doesn't click for1:32:18certain people so1:32:20>> interesting and yeah the first one you1:32:22said is super real just like not1:32:24acknowledging the weaknesses enough1:32:25never actually changing or coming to the1:32:27right the same page.1:32:29>> Yeah. That that's in every relationship,1:32:31financial, business relationship,1:32:34friendships, you know, uh intimate1:32:36relationships, emotional relationship.1:32:37Like, if you can't learn to acknowledge,1:32:39I messed up. What you're saying is fair.1:32:42It's valid.1:32:43>> You're not going to move on. You're1:32:45literally going to be like, "What the1:32:47heck?" Like, but I'm not wrong, though.1:32:48And that's where it gets stuck. It's1:32:50like, "I know I messed up and let's move1:32:53forward from this versus I didn't mess1:32:56up, but let's move forward." But but1:32:57that's the whole point. You have to1:32:59acknowledge that in order to move1:33:00forward. It's like but I didn't though.1:33:01Let's just move on. It's like no, you1:33:02can't do that because it's going to keep1:33:04reoccurring. If you don't acknowledge1:33:06it, then you can't fix it, right? And1:33:08God and you don't you can't you're going1:33:09to keep falling into the same trap and1:33:11so everyone else around you is going to1:33:13have to bleed for that essentially.1:33:15>> Right. Like right if you don't realize1:33:16that you're doing it or on the other1:33:17flip side of the token, if your1:33:19significant other is like never1:33:21acknowledging weaknesses or making1:33:23compromises, it's just impossible. like1:33:25every conversation only ends with like1:33:27you accepting it and moving on or1:33:28whatever, but there's no actual1:33:31>> middle ground found.1:33:32>> And the the last thing is I think people1:33:34love to ridicule versus helping one1:33:37another restore,1:33:39>> right? So even if a person doesn't1:33:41acknowledge, they don't want to help1:33:42them acknowledge, right? Uh if if a1:33:45person uh does acknowledge, then they1:33:47don't want to restore them. They1:33:48ridicule them and be like, "Oh, see like1:33:50you should have listened to me. This is1:33:51where you messed up and you're dumb and1:33:53blah blah blah." Like you can point out1:33:55a person's weakness. But the whole goal1:33:58of that is to restore them. Is to go,1:34:00"Hey, that messed up. We both got hurt1:34:03in this. Let's not do that again. Let's1:34:05like move forward from this versus like1:34:08you messed up and you hurt me and now1:34:10you owe me things and you need to make1:34:12me feel better and like you're stupid1:34:14for that and you you need to catch up1:34:16now." And it's you're basically1:34:17emasculating people, right? And so at1:34:19the end of the day, I think like, you1:34:22know, you have to be able to to to tell1:34:24the truth, yes, but to tell the truth,1:34:26to heal people, not to expose people,1:34:28and not to belittle people, and not to1:34:30make them feel less than. It's more of1:34:32like this is the truth, and it hurt me.1:34:34And I just want you to understand that1:34:36so that, you know, we can we can move1:34:38forward with this versus like everyone1:34:40takes things defensively. If I'm trying1:34:43to tell you something, then they they1:34:44get defensive about it. And if you have1:34:46a heart to expose or like not restore1:34:49people, I rather you just don't even1:34:52like say anything to them. Like pray for1:34:54them, right? So that's just I noticed1:34:56this in the Christian community. It's1:34:58like people love to like make videos and1:35:00talk about us. It's like but if you1:35:02spent the cuz I know those videos take a1:35:04long time to stitch up and like add your1:35:06effects and like sit there for an hour1:35:08and whatever. If you spent that time1:35:11doing that, praying for me, you don't1:35:13think God would help and actually answer1:35:15and like fix it way better than you1:35:17trying to just bring and shed light to1:35:20it and like ruin people's perspectives,1:35:22you know? It's like it's kind of crazy.1:35:24>> You kind of said it, Johnny, but I'm1:35:25just curious what your guys' biggest1:35:26weaknesses are. Maybe we can save it for1:35:28dinner, but what what are y'all what is1:35:30your biggest weakness? What's everyone's1:35:32biggest weaknesses?1:35:33>> Um that maybe we can1:35:35>> My biggest weakness is that I have no1:35:37weaknesses.1:35:38>> Yeah. I don't want to see any of that.1:35:39Oh, I work too hard.1:35:41>> My biggest weakness is Latinas. No.1:35:45>> What is your biggest weakness, Jerome?1:35:47>> I'm too strong.1:35:49>> Too smart, too funny, too cool.1:35:51>> Yeah. What's my weakness? Probably that1:35:54I'm stubborn.1:35:58>> You interrupt Johnny.1:36:02I think my biggest weakness1:36:04>> stab you1:36:06>> is1:36:08also kind of acknowledging1:36:10like acknowledging myself too that I am1:36:14weak in a lot of things and I just don't1:36:16like to be weak. So I guess you could1:36:17say pride but like it's more of just1:36:20acknowledging who I am. Like I don't1:36:22think it's a pride ego thing. It's more1:36:23of just like dang I don't I don't want1:36:26to be that weak.1:36:27>> So my weakness is that I don't want to1:36:29be weak but I am. M if1:36:31>> does that make sense? Yeah.1:36:32>> Yeah.1:36:33>> You say yours and then I have a funny1:36:34little thing I'm going to say.1:36:36>> Um I don't know. You can fire off if you1:36:38want.1:36:38>> No, you need to say your weakness first1:36:39is part of the exercise.1:36:41>> Your1:36:43>> um my weakness probably substance1:36:46substance abuse in some in some some1:36:49regards.1:36:50Um but that's a deeper there's probably1:36:52a deeper weakness there.1:36:54>> Okay, great. Now we're going to go1:36:56around and we're going to say the other1:36:57people are going to say what your1:36:58weakness is. Oh, [laughter]1:37:00okay. Okay.1:37:01>> We're going to see how1:37:03uh what's it called? When you can1:37:05self-reflect on yourself.1:37:06>> Mhm. Mhm.1:37:07>> How honest you are with yourself. All1:37:09right. So, Johnny, what's his real1:37:11weakness? [laughter]1:37:13>> Uh,1:37:15that's it for the episode.1:37:19[laughter]1:37:20>> I could tell I could I have weaknesses1:37:21for you guys.1:37:22>> Oh, no. All right. Let me think. Tell1:37:24us.1:37:24>> But you guys are going to have to tell1:37:25me my weaknesses.1:37:26>> Okay. Okay. Okay. So, wait. moment to1:37:28pause.1:37:29>> Okay. Okay. Or I'll go first for you1:37:30guys. A weakness doesn't just mean what1:37:32you don't like about someone. It's what1:37:33you're identifying as their weakness.1:37:35It's not your weakness.1:37:36>> No, they mean that you're weak because1:37:38they say that.1:37:39>> You annoy me because I know that I like1:37:42say something hell of mean. Like you're1:37:45ugly. You're ugly.1:37:46>> I'll start and maybe it'll help you guys1:37:48think more. I think one of your main1:37:50weaknesses, Jeremy, is that you to to a1:37:52fault and you could be like, "Oh, it's a1:37:53superpower, blah blah blah," but you1:37:54you'll get obsessed with the details to1:37:57the point where it'll almost hold you1:37:58back. It'll be things as like every1:38:00single bite of food needs to be exactly1:38:02the same. You're going to ask Chad GPT1:38:05what to get from Portillos before we1:38:06show up. It's just like sometimes you1:38:09even the level of obsession or tripping1:38:11over it. It's like not you're not1:38:13submitted to the to the It's like1:38:15sometimes the details will will lose1:38:18you, bro.1:38:20>> Yeah. The devil details. [laughter]1:38:23>> No rebuttal.1:38:24>> Hey, but listen.1:38:25>> My me me my tip.1:38:27>> Okay, fine. Fine, fine. What about if1:38:29I'm keep gaining five pounds, which is1:38:31why I had to look up portillos.1:38:33>> Hanging out with you guys are bad1:38:34influences.1:38:35>> But it's like if you're obsessing so1:38:37much to the point where like, guys, I1:38:38work so hard. I worked out. Now I'm1:38:39going to go have this cheat meal. It's1:38:40going to be can it's like you're you're1:38:43tripping. You're not submitted to the1:38:45issue that you have with the food. It's1:38:46like if you you it's on your mind all1:38:49the you were obsessing over it if you1:38:51weren't thinking about it so much. I1:38:53mean I'm just saying normal people don't1:38:54do that. [laughter]1:38:55>> So I'm just saying like if you it's1:38:57clearly has taken you over to the point1:38:58where you're like oh I'm working all1:38:59these days off so I can go eat this.1:39:01It's like1:39:01>> something else needs to be readjusted.1:39:04It's not the in [laughter] the details1:39:06of what to order at Portillos. It's it's1:39:08further back. It's like what else could1:39:09you rejust?1:39:10>> The food thing I I understand was the1:39:12example, but I get no1:39:14>> rebuttal. I understand example. Yeah.1:39:16>> My turn.1:39:17>> Um I I would identify one of your1:39:19weaknesses. I think I think whether it's1:39:21because you want to stay on everyone's1:39:23good side or maybe it's that you want to1:39:25constantly be heart gaining, but I feel1:39:26like you have an issue being fully1:39:28honest all the time.1:39:29>> You'll you'll walk on glass like I think1:39:32I think maybe we should do this. Oh,1:39:33just kidding. Probably not actually.1:39:34It's like Johnny just say what you1:39:36wanted.1:39:37And I think it's because you don't want1:39:39people to look at you or you don't want1:39:41to be disagreeable, but it's like1:39:42sometimes I think you struggle to at1:39:43least the first time1:39:44>> be like your feelings.1:39:47>> True. I I agree. It is heart gaining1:39:50>> but also partially that too.1:39:53>> Yeah.1:39:54>> He got no problem telling me.1:39:56>> So yeah, maybe you're good at it with us1:39:59obviously and it is heart gaining but1:40:00it's just like Yeah. Or even like you'll1:40:02like one of we'll back you down really1:40:04quickly. like we'll say something and1:40:05they like, "Oh, never mind. Never mind."1:40:06It's like, "But you can stand on 10 toes1:40:09and and you can walk walk Jeremy down."1:40:11>> Two to one, though.1:40:12>> Yeah.1:40:13>> I'm just a nice guy.1:40:14>> We should just have a two to one vote,1:40:16like a vote next time.1:40:18>> Yeah. Yeah.1:40:18>> True. I mean, I mean, that's what I do1:40:20now, just in my head. If I'm like, "I1:40:22want it." And then you say no and you1:40:23say no, I just vote.1:40:25>> Mhm.1:40:25>> Cuz I'm a nice guy.1:40:27>> See, you think you're too nice. That's1:40:29your weakness.1:40:32>> True. Then I blow up crazy. No, you1:40:34don't blow up crazy. Legit, you don't1:40:36blow up crazy. I hear the stories and1:40:38I'm like, "Oh my gosh, what did we get1:40:40ourselves into?"1:40:41>> What if that's what if he hits his head1:40:43one day too hard? Like the light falls1:40:45down and hits his head and it snaps him1:40:47back into that1:40:48>> like a sleeper agent.1:40:49>> Yeah.1:40:50>> Okay, your turn. Then I'll go last.1:40:52>> Okay. Okay. Okay. [snorts] What do I1:40:54think is Aaron's weakness? I think1:40:56Aaron's weakness is1:40:57>> And it can't be the one I said,1:40:58obviously.1:40:59>> No, I know. I know. I think yours is1:41:02it it was you've changed, but it was1:41:04like lack of accountability.1:41:06>> It's like you would just say you were1:41:07going to do things, not do them, then1:41:09apologize and be like, "Okay, well, he1:41:11apologized, but then not do it." And1:41:12then it would1:41:13>> Is that accountability or is that1:41:15action? A lack of just action.1:41:18[laughter]1:41:19>> Well, that but it's like you'd be like1:41:21you would know why you you could take1:41:23accountability and then you just1:41:25wouldn't do it1:41:26>> right.1:41:26>> Okay. But then, but then you know what I1:41:28think the deeper weakness is? It's like1:41:30you're like, "Ah, no, this is better.1:41:31This is above me."1:41:32>> Right. Okay. Right. That's sure. I'll1:41:34take that.1:41:34>> So, you're1:41:35>> It was not caring more than anything.1:41:37It's just like,1:41:38>> yeah.1:41:39>> Right. Because you could take1:41:39accountability, but if nothing changes.1:41:41Yeah. There was certain things that I1:41:42certainly for sure just didn't care.1:41:45>> That's for sure.1:41:46>> Yeah.1:41:46>> I'll take that.1:41:48>> Johnny, what's Johnny's? I would say1:41:50Johnny Yours was good. That that kind of1:41:52verbalized it better. I would say that1:41:54Johnny's is1:41:58I mean, he's said it before. It's like1:42:00the perfectionist thing. Like he gets1:42:02really he gets really frustrated and1:42:04then when he and then he gets frustrated1:42:06that he's frustrated.1:42:07>> I'd say that's probably a weakness.1:42:09>> That's facts.1:42:10>> And then and then and then when he gets1:42:12frustrated that he's frustrated, he1:42:13takes it out on me. [laughter]1:42:16>> Partially true.1:42:18>> Yeah.1:42:20>> Um I think with Jeremy's is more1:42:23[laughter]1:42:27I'm just like nodding like [laughter]1:42:34I think I think with Jeremy it's more of1:42:40understanding and he's getting you're1:42:41getting better at this understanding the1:42:43grace aspect1:42:45>> where it's just like yeah but if I did1:42:48this then where where where then like do1:42:51I need to give him grace if I created 101:42:53notions and I spend like it's like it's1:42:56true but the grace aspect1:43:00Aaron I think also got better at this um1:43:04I think you would feel like you would1:43:07judge too quickly1:43:09>> like you would be like dude it's not1:43:11going to work and then you're like okay1:43:14my bad1:43:16>> so yeah he doesn't really do that that1:43:18much yeah1:43:19>> that's true though1:43:20>> yeah before it would be like dude I1:43:22should if I just waited like a little1:43:24bit longer then I'd be able to and and I1:43:27was going to say the accountability1:43:28thing. It's not accountability. It's1:43:30more of like Yeah, it's beneath me.1:43:33>> Yeah, we could sense that where it's1:43:34like I don't1:43:36>> I don't want to do this.1:43:37>> Yeah, for sure.1:43:38>> Yeah. But even that has gotten a lot1:43:40better, too.1:43:42>> Notice how I told you guys you guys got1:43:43better and you didn't tell me that I got1:43:45better.1:43:46>> We're going to see. But that that was my1:43:49weakness for you is that you sugarcoat1:43:51things. You can't be fully honest. You1:43:53need to like1:43:54>> there's certain things that still1:43:55haven't gotten better for sure. But1:43:57>> yeah.1:43:58>> Yeah. [laughter]1:44:00>> Jesus.1:44:01>> I'll take that. I'll take the I'll take1:44:02those weaknesses.1:44:03>> I'll take those weaknesses.1:44:04>> Like uh1:44:04>> I'm not taking those weaknesses. We are going back on the1:45:12road from Johnny Chang live events. Woo!1:45:15[applause and cheering] Johnny Chang1:45:16live events are back. All of his1:45:18neighbors just heard that, by the way.1:45:19And I just wanted to say we're going to1:45:21a lot of different places. I won't1:45:22really announce them all right now, but1:45:23we're going back all across the country1:45:25again. And we are looking for a live1:45:27event coordinator to work at Core of the1:45:30Heart. So, if you saw the past live1:45:32events, it's thousands of people coming1:45:34to churches around the country bringing1:45:36donations, live Q&As's, meet and greets.1:45:38It's amazing opportunities for the local1:45:40communities. Food trucks come out,1:45:42there's fellowship. Um, it's just a1:45:44really really awesome event all the1:45:46time. And if you're the type of person1:45:47who has thrown events like this, if you1:45:49have experience coordinating events like1:45:52this, we are looking for someone to1:45:53literally book one to two events every1:45:56month for the rest of the year and1:45:58potentially the rest of all time.1:45:59>> You got to be good at talking to1:46:01churches, cold reaching out. We're also1:46:03doing prison ministry, so coordinating1:46:05with uh the prison wardens, things like1:46:07that. You just got to1:46:08>> attention to detail. attention to1:46:10detail. Setting up volunteers, setting1:46:11up the live stream, setting up the1:46:13cameraman. I don't want to make it seem1:46:14overwhelming.1:46:15>> Yeah. No, we have all the checklist.1:46:16It's a pretty it's a me and Aaron do it.1:46:18We figured it out. We do it. We want1:46:20someone. And so if you if you can look1:46:21at us and be like, "They did it and I do1:46:23this for a living. I can do it." Yes.1:46:25It's it's it's1:46:26>> and and I'll just be real honest. We're1:46:28not really looking for people who will1:46:30come try this. Oh, maybe I can be good1:46:31at that. Or, oh, I could probably do1:46:33that. I really We want someone who has1:46:35done this before, who can look at our1:46:37events and say, "Oh, I can level that1:46:38up. I can make that better. Oh, why1:46:40would they do that like that? We usually1:46:42do it like this. That's what we're1:46:43looking for. If you've done live events,1:46:45please call us. We pay super1:46:46competitively. Leave your job. If you1:46:48wanted to do something spiritual and1:46:50throw live Christian live events around1:46:51the country,1:46:52>> the the other thing too is you just got1:46:55to love people because, you know, with1:46:57these events when you're dealing with1:46:58all kinds of people from different1:47:00churches and prisons and walks of life,1:47:03it just just requires you to be love1:47:05people. So,1:47:05>> yeah. S servant mindset, guys. uh1:47:08pastors, we all are servants at the end1:47:10of the day. So, we just have to serve1:47:13people. And if you have that heart to1:47:15serve people and make sure they have a1:47:16good uh you know, if our our podcast or1:47:20the way I serve has touched your guys'1:47:22heart to then replicate that for the1:47:24millions and hundreds of thousands of1:47:26other people to also experience that,1:47:28that's that's important, you know, more1:47:30than anything. So, service. Yeah.1:47:32>> If you would like to apply, the link is1:47:34in the description. and you click on it1:47:36and follow every single instruction. If1:47:38you don't, we'll know that you don't1:47:40have attention to detail and we just1:47:42skip right over you.1:47:43>> It's very You be like, "Whoa, what does1:47:45that mean?" You know, you'll just see.1:47:46It's very, very clear.1:47:47>> So true.1:47:48>> Yeah. And and by the way, we have been1:47:50hiring amazing people from the1:47:51community.1:47:52>> Yeah,1:47:52>> we're finding good amazing editors. So,1:47:54thank you to everybody that is also1:47:57taking the time to apply and start to be1:48:00a part of this. And again, if it's if1:48:01you know someone like this who you know1:48:03does event, it doesn't have to be you,1:48:05right? Like spread the word for us, too.1:48:07That also helps too. So, yes.1:48:09>> Yes.1:48:10>> All right, guys.1:48:11>> And and and the last thing is the sooner1:48:12we get that person, the more live1:48:13events.1:48:14>> Yeah, true. You'd help us tremendously.1:48:18All right. With that being said, this1:48:20wraps up the episode. As we always end1:48:23in unlearn wisdom fashion, we end it1:48:25with the prayer. So, let us bow our1:48:28heads everybody. Father God, thank you1:48:31so much, Lord, for giving us this1:48:33podcast and just giving us the breath in1:48:35our lungs to acknowledge ourselves. And1:48:37I ask, God, that there's a lot of1:48:38brothers and sisters here listening who1:48:41struggle with acknowledgement,1:48:42acknowledging that they're weak at times1:48:44and truly uh struggling with1:48:46self-sufficiency.1:48:48But Lord, I ask that you crush that in1:48:50them and allow them to go towards you,1:48:53Lord. Because self-sufficiency is truly1:48:55from the enemy. It allows us to not1:48:57depend on you, Lord. But you1:48:59counterbalance that with our weaknesses1:49:01so that we can depend on you, Lord. You1:49:04said in Proverbs 3, not to lean on our1:49:07own understanding. In all our ways trust1:49:09and acknowledge you, Lord, you want1:49:11dependency and you want us to only1:49:14depend on your begotten son, which is1:49:16Jesus Christ. And for that, Lord, we're1:49:18so thankful because you want a1:49:20relationship. You don't want us to stand1:49:22on our own because we would then never1:49:24ever have a relationship with you and we1:49:26would never ever come to the kingdom or1:49:28even seek you, Lord. So you give us1:49:30trials and tribulations to show us,1:49:32Lord, that we struggle daily, but not to1:49:37not because we're weak, but because we1:49:39struggle with surrendering. So I ask God1:49:41that you also give the heart of1:49:43surrender to everyone listening and1:49:45their family members and allow people to1:49:46serve other people as well. um because1:49:49we are truly truly weak. But when we are1:49:52weak, then we are strong as Paul says in1:49:542 Corinthians chapter 12. Father God, we1:49:57thank you for everything that you've1:49:59given us from the trials and the1:50:00tribulations to the setbacks to the1:50:04weaknesses because you told us to boast1:50:07in that and to be happy through those1:50:10things. You've molded our character.1:50:12You've shaped our wisdom and ultimately1:50:14you've built that that trust inside of1:50:17us to have faith in the most faithful1:50:19person which is you Lord. So thank you1:50:21for that and we leave everything in your1:50:22hands and in Jesus name we pray. Amen.1:50:26>> Amen.1:50:26>> Amen.1:50:27>> Amen. Like, comment, and subscribe.
