bless well you guys are0:28doing an0:28album together now how did this come0:30about were y'all together i mean i0:32i think you all together since y'all0:33together now did y'all record it0:34together or was this a pandemic studio0:36session0:37let's be careful about how we say0:38together listen0:41where did some honest musicians at you0:43know still play instruments0:45still listen to marvin gaye stevie0:47wonder and stuff and uh there's only a0:48few people like that so when you find it0:50you just0:51you just gotta link up and uh it's a0:53good time in the studio0:55it don't feel like work so we said let's0:57just keep it going you know0:58me and andy met on tour in in 2017 right1:01yeah1:02yeah we was on tour together and then1:04from there we started1:05hanging out and listening to music he1:08put me on some music i put him on some1:09music and then we went to the studio a1:11couple times1:12wrote some songs that ended up on1:14ventura right1:16right yeah and uh yeah this quarantine1:20i called in the upside come to the1:21studio and kind of snowballed into1:23something big1:24how are you calling somebody to come uh1:26to the studio when you should be social1:28distancing bruno1:30that's a good question he has to shout1:32to me he had to send me his results1:36yeah now when you talk about putting1:38each other on music right i would1:40love to get some examples of some of the1:41things that y'all discussed beforehand1:43like what you put1:45anderson onto and what you put bruno1:46mars onto1:48i mean both of us grew up on1:51the jackson five and james brown and1:54but it you know i ended up putting me on1:56some deeper cuts i'm1:57showing him some rare that no one's2:00ever heard yet2:02uh stuff like that what does the name2:05silk sonic mean where'd that come from2:08bootsy named us2:10really yeah oh tell you gotta tell us2:12that story that that's2:13that's come on now that's incredible he2:15heard the song he heard the song2:17and said we need a name you know bootsy2:19collins named babyface2:21i didn't know that you know that yeah2:23yeah it's a great story2:24i hope babyface don't mind if you don't2:25mind if i tell it but please2:28um babyface was in the studio2:31and bootsy collins walks in he's in the2:34studio with a bunch of his friends he2:35looks at he looks at at the time he's2:37kenny edmonds and he looks at boots uh2:40bootsy looks at him and says2:41what's up baby face and the whole studio2:43starts laughing2:44the next day they have a show and2:48uh the guy introduces him as kenny2:50edmonds and he got the golf clap2:52[Applause]2:53and as a joke the very next night2:56he goes ladies and gentlemen babyface2:59and the girls start freaking out3:01and i hope i didn't botch that story3:03face but that's that's the story3:05this one this one babyface was still3:07with intro3:09what's that this one babyface was still3:10with intro i think he was at the deal3:13yeah i think it was with the deal the3:15deal i'm sorry not an intro3:18what do you do walk in the studio and3:20say hey silk sonic3:22no no no we played in the song we sent3:24them the record3:27and when it says hosted by bootsy3:28collins what other involvement does he3:30have3:31in the album he's going to be narrating3:33this whole album3:35it's like a set list we try to put a3:37show together3:38and we call it the set list of doom okay3:41well let me ask you a question3:43when he said y'all a silk signing y'all3:44i didn't ask what that means y'all just3:48you can't really question the oh geez3:50you know like you only get a few3:51you know moments with them so you kind3:53of just have to run with that3:54um and uh i liked it i think it fit with3:57the music3:58and you know it sounded cool when he4:00said it so he was like4:02that's right it seems like a five4:04heartbeats type of vibe or something4:06like that i got nothing but love for you4:10baby4:13hey we was arguing this morning which4:14one of y'all's a better pure singer4:16come on we ain't got argue damn you know4:18what i'm saying4:21they gotta argue we gotta argue about4:22that if you hadn't said this you said4:24that you're in would never say that yeah we could4:50edit that part out4:51[Laughter]4:54did y'all personal sounds ever clash4:56with each other during the creation4:57all the time all the time okay yeah but5:00that's what's the good part it's like5:01where where he can go it's like i really5:03at my where he can go and i think we5:06just like bouncing off each other and uh5:08it's that's a great part like for me5:10about being in this duo is like oh5:12when i was writing songs by myself it's5:13like you want to you want to hit a gear5:15sometimes that you might not be able to5:17go to it and the best part about this5:19whole situation it's like5:21being a kid again when he was in the5:23garage you know so i pick up the guitar5:25andy on the drums and we're just working5:26out the parts and try to make it the5:28best song we can5:30the best song we can make it and the5:31model is if we like it5:33and we're proud of it then hopefully the5:34people gonna love it no is this a one5:36time project or is this5:38something that you plan on doing more5:40albums together5:41nah now it's kind of hit actually5:44you stuck with me we stuck for life man5:48no hopefully this is we can keep coming5:50back to the studio and doing it again5:52so how's the creative process during the5:54pandemic because usually you get5:56creative off of life right you're going5:57out you see something break up something6:00that you see and feel so how has it been6:02since you guys been home6:04well it was hard it got dark in the6:07beginning and i think andy came through6:09and6:09he lit the studio up uh uh coming off of6:13tour6:1324k magic toils a long tour6:16um you know it's just like you lock6:19yourself in a box and then you're like6:20all right well6:22what am i gonna do now uh6:26and i started putting some chords6:28together like i said it just snowballed6:30andy came to the studio and it was6:33okay he said now the drums got to go6:35like this and he gets behind the drums6:37i'm like oh and then you start seeing6:39things different you know6:40i start hearing things everything he6:42starts singing and then i start hearing6:44melodies different6:45so it just kind of unlocks something and6:47uh i hope it6:49i hope that's the same for you too not6:51so much okay6:52okay what was your experience6:55um i mean i was i was uh i was enjoying6:58the family time6:59you know with cortine and i was on the7:02road before that7:03for years never had a break and when he7:05called me up i was super hyped because7:07um i've been wanting to work with him7:09and i know he was always on7:11on the road 25 7 8 carat magics yeah7:15and so i was waiting for him to get home7:17and uh when he hit me up it was just7:18like7:19it was just natural man and he you know7:21some people listen to music they can7:22vibe out and get lost in it7:25he's not really one of the people like7:26he gonna hear the song and he's gonna7:28figure out the math and he gonna7:30you know he hears where it's going right7:32and where it's going wrong and what we7:34need to do to get it to the right spot7:36and uh that's the part that i was just7:37like really you know7:39taking taking in and really amazed about7:41and i i really enjoy making music like7:43that7:44hey bruno you said that you said that it7:46was dark before anderson came like7:48what do you mean when you say it was7:49dark like like mentally emotionally7:51what was it um7:54i've been very fortunate to be around7:56for a while7:58and i've written some songs that i'm8:00very proud of8:02at a certain point8:05it you know it only gets harder and8:06harder you know8:08i'm trying to like because i know it's8:10like if i can't8:12top that's what i like or when i was8:15your man then what the hell am i doing8:16why am i doing this anymore and you know8:18it's like it's like a fighter right you8:20got to have this monster inside of you8:22if you don't have this monster inside of8:24you then it's dangerous to step into the8:26ring8:27get your ass knocked down you get your8:28ass knocked out so8:31i always have that monster in me but i'm8:34just trying to find this uh8:37i'm always i'm searching for8:41you know what like i said like what8:42what's going to make me proud of it8:44what's going to make what8:45what temple can i what it's hard to8:48explain charlemagne it's it's thank you8:49i appreciate it i'm going to make him8:50cry8:52it's hard to explain because you know i8:55got to do it through music8:56yeah i got to do it through music i just8:57got to sit my ass down behind a piano8:59and just do it until something resonates9:02because that's are you chasing the the9:04hit the hit that you had before and9:06trying to do better than that or is it9:07one of those things i'm just trying to9:08make music9:09i'm just trying to make music that i'm9:11proud of and like i said that's you know9:13when you're in the beginning9:17when you as a younger man you're just so9:20excited9:20you know you just want to be like oh you9:22know whatever and now that i've done9:24that you just want to evolve and keep9:26and making sure that you your fans and9:28your music is evolving and9:30and you want the you want your fans to9:32hear that9:34yo it sounds like you're feeling the9:36pressure of the success9:37of yourself is that fair to you though9:41cause i think about like michael jackson9:42like once you make a thriller that's a9:44thriller9:45you probably ain't gonna ever do that9:46again in your life so is it fair to keep9:48trying to9:49hit that no i just don't i think you9:52can't look at it like that9:54that was at a mo that was what my heart9:57felt at that moment that's what i wanted9:58to do9:59and now it's about all right where do i10:01want to go now mm-hmm10:03and constantly grow and get better10:06and it's not gonna you know it's never10:08gonna be the same i'm never gonna be10:10i'll never be able to write when i was10:12your man10:13that was at that time i'll never be able10:15to write uh10:16uptown funk that was at that moment but10:18all of those moments10:20were these magical things that happened10:22with a little bit of luck and being in10:23the studio with a right with the right10:25camp10:26and that's how you create this got you10:29so anderson came in and basically just10:30sparked new inspiration into you10:32absolutely that's what it is now do you10:35guys watch versus10:36uh of fans of verses yeah yeah yeah10:39would y'all ever do a verse well it was10:41either gonna be a versus or make an10:43album so10:44and anderson chose the right being25:03able to provide for my family25:05doing what i love when's the last time25:09you've been to a strip club solomon you25:10know he came to jersey girls with me one25:12night25:12who that was a long time ago25:17i was surprised he walked in there i25:18don't even think i was i don't think i25:20was of age25:21well good job envy i think i showed him25:23a blockbuster car the guy was like yeah25:24you're good come on25:28you know what though it has been a25:29pandemic and i know you guys have been25:31ripping and25:32running for years now and not really had25:34a chance to sit down25:35was there an upside to actually having25:38some time to maybe not have to25:40be on tour and doing all of that did you25:42learn anything new about yourselves25:46i don't know if i said it already but i25:47just think like slowing down25:49is um25:53slowing down was special because you get25:55to hold on to this energy25:57and we're in a world that's going so25:58fast so fast that this26:00uh sometimes you got to take a break26:04and unplug and i think quarantine forced26:06everybody to unplug a little bit and26:08reevaluate what's important in life26:11uh for myself and um26:16i think it's why we're rolling out this26:18album the way we're rolling it out26:19like let's let's let's keep it this way26:21let's keep it at this pace let's not26:23just go26:24we don't want one week of trending on26:27twitter26:28and you know we work too hard for that26:31so we want we want26:34we want to drop these songs one at a26:35time and read the room26:38and you andy26:42yeah yeah touring is dope26:47it takes you out of it when you when you26:48get into the album right now i'm gonna26:50take you out26:51sometimes you know you go leave for six26:52months seven months and you come back26:54you don't even remember what what you26:56was on and you're trying to like26:58create a new vibe and stuff when with26:59this quarantine you just boom you locked27:01in27:02and you get time to just get obsessed27:03with these songs and figure them out and27:05dissect them and like27:06really put your everything into this27:09album into these songs and know that27:10i did everything possible to make this27:13the best i didn't just like27:14go spend you know a couple hours on it27:17then i was27:18dipped out and tried to chase a bag here27:19and there and then come back you
