0:00sucker yeah a little closer little0:01closer all right don't worry fellas dick0:05how you doing very nice to meet you nice0:06to meet you too you're remarkably normal0:08oh thanks I know people are we struck at0:12how normal I am am i it's like wow0:14really I think my main issue the maze I0:17guess seeing a famous child and yeah0:19yeah that's a very unusual maze yeah my0:23life is unique to me that's what I like0:24to say you know yeah and I'm almost like0:27a peerless person like to a certain0:28extent there's not too many people I can0:30look left and right and we you know I0:33I'm like we have similar experiences0:35yeah is there anybody that you ever0:36contacted like Jodie Foster or someone0:39who's made it through and seems pretty0:42put together not really no no not really0:46I mean it's kind of a weird cold call0:48you know hey Jodie Foster such a small0:54clan of people like if a comic called me0:56that I knew you know they wanted to talk0:58to me I would talk to them because it's1:00such a small club gonna people I mean we1:02do have our weekly therapy sessions yeah1:06Elijah Wood Jodie Foster you know yeah1:10like we all get together and yeah we we1:13weep you know it's actually do primal1:15screaming that's what we do I was1:17describing what it was like I have a1:18friend who Ricky Schroder who is you1:22know obviously he was very famous for1:23news young as well and my favorite theme1:25songs TV theme songs and I was saying1:30like the way you developed is not like1:33the way the recipe calls mm-hmm like the1:35recipe calls for you to have a childhood1:37and try to figure out life and then1:39become a man and try to find yourself1:41and then try to find your path and by1:43the time you be he became a man he was1:46already famous and the same thing with1:47you you were already famous as you were1:51developing and learning yeah you know1:53yeah III don't know exactly how to like1:56kind of even describe it because it's1:59always the way my life has been kind of2:01thing I'll get in the same way that like2:03a lot of kids like you know they go out2:04and they you know catch bugs and place a2:07lot baseball or whatever like yeah just2:09like Alec that's the way it is like you2:11don't really realize how unique2:13the whole situation is until you have2:14perspective because you have nothing to2:16compare it to really other than I guess2:18TV shows and movies things like that so2:20I knew that my upbringing was unique you2:23know I knew oh it knew it was different2:25but at the same time it's kind of just2:27it's not until you get some perspective2:28some life experience until you really2:31realize that oh wait this was this was2:32particularly weird you know I think one2:35of the aspects is particularly worried2:36about it is a lot of kids that grow up2:39famous they grow up on the set2:41yeah and they grow up constantly around2:44people who treat them very differently2:45than everyone else it's not just that2:47you're famous is that you're famous and2:48you're also the complete center of2:50attention mm-hmm like you're the reason2:52why we're here we're here to do this2:54television show we're here do this movie2:55we're here to do this thing you're the2:57star mm-hmm and that I think for a kid2:59that's a very strange place to be yeah3:01and especially look I mean I like when I3:03was a kid like even before I started3:05working I always liked being like the3:07center of attention kind of thing that3:08was - you know I was just I was very3:10boisterous you know but uh but in3:14general like I never really liked being3:15fussed over when I didn't like you know3:18like yet the hair makeup costume people3:20like poking at you all the time and3:21things like they actually wasn't a huge3:23fan after a while of kind of like being3:25that at center of attention you know it3:27it does become a job after a while yeah3:30yeah like early on you kind of just do3:32what you do like that's like I was good3:34at it and boom liked it in the same way3:36like that you do look anything that3:38you're like you like it's where the3:39child labor laws don't apply to acting3:42you they do do that yeah I'm pretty3:44well-versed in child labor laws well3:45how's that worked then it goes from3:47state to state mmm they can work you3:49like let's say like in New York they can3:52work you ten hours yeah but it stop3:53right there they can work you well if3:55you can't get a job if they're eight3:57that's what you're that's what you're3:58kind of like that's what their limit is3:59and at the same time you have to get4:01three hours of schooling and plus an4:02hour of lunch so really you're only4:03you're available window is only six4:05hours or something like that a day and4:07then like that also in like in that six4:09hours they're always like setting up the4:11lights for the next shot and you know4:13the hurry-up-and-wait kind of part of4:14you know of things that's why I looked4:16the second home alone it took like4:17nearly five months to film because they4:20can only I mean virtually every scene4:22and they can only use me X amount of4:24hours a day4:25anything but that isn't that the only4:28job that you can work when you're eight4:30years old I don't know why you can't be4:33a carpenter I mean I guess you can do4:35modeling you know I mean but like some4:38kind of performing arts kind of thing4:39like there are dancers and so forth4:41mm-hmm4:42because I was a I was a ballet dancer4:45before I was an actor4:46really yeah yeah I did ballet for a4:48number of years I'm a classically4:49trained ballerina right here yeah that4:52ballerina if you're a man I call it I4:54say I'm a ballet dancer mm-hmm but there4:58is a weird ballarino like that some of5:01them use and I'm like I'm not okay I5:03call myself a ballerina5:04look I just like can't it's two bros5:06like it's from Welcome Back Kotter so I5:16did that for a number of years and5:18there's a bunch of kids like in you know5:19that do that and you get paid you do the5:22work Wow so you know there are other I5:24guess trades yeah it seems like it's5:26show business though yeah yeah that's5:28what I mean I think it's more than the5:29Performing Arts kind of thing like you5:31know you don't see a lot of kids working5:32the coal mines anymore like that kind of5:34thing yeah for good reason all right but5:37some people think that by six-year-olds5:39dying a black lung you know there's some5:43horrible pictures from like the early5:451900s of people actually working in the5:47coal mine doing their little tiny kids5:49yep yep yeah I mean there are no Newsies5:52anymore you know look yeah did you have5:54any say in whether or not you worked5:56when you were young5:57not really no hmm look it was after a6:00while it became like I said a job and it6:02was I like I never chose the projects6:04yeah they were like my parents I can you6:07essentially like chose them for me so6:10yeah exactly you know yeah yeah they6:13called you know class and like I never6:18read any two scripts look I would I6:20would just read like the lines for like6:21the next day or whatever like I would6:23like get the gist of what the movie was6:24about but then I just kind of show up6:26and hit my marks find my light you know6:29you know and and recite my lines real6:33it's kind of just like again it's what6:35you do right like it's like in the same6:37way that like like6:38kids go to like school or something like6:40that like you know you you you follow to6:41a routine to a certain extent yeah well6:44that's the thing about the human mind6:46right so flexible mhm you could adopt6:48any sort of weird scenario especially6:51when you're a kid I mean okay you just6:54bounce look all the time it's adapt so6:56easy6:56exactly exactly and I always had like a6:59good memory and things like that like7:00you know I liked you know I was I was7:03big and charismatic and I like had a7:06good memory like so I could remember my7:08lines like that's pretty much what like7:10if you you know like not gonna give any7:12advice to any people about like yeah you7:14should put your kid into this line of7:15work but at the same time like what7:17producers really care about is whether7:19or not you remember your lines but they7:21like people you never work with kids or7:24animals kind of thing yeah it's like7:26yeah and they want they they really all7:28they really care about is you remember7:29your lines really like because7:30apparently that's a problem like for me7:33never was look if I ever lost my place I7:35would just see the script in my head and7:37just read it look I think I kind of had7:39a photographic memory back then7:40oh it's faded now I'm 37 I'm about to be7:4438 in like two weeks7:46feels weird doesn't it yeah you know7:48yeah look uh my my bowels are different7:51[Laughter]
