Unlearned Wisdom by Johnny Chang
0:00Today we'll be talking about how to deal0:01with wrongful judgment as a Christian,0:03how to change somebody's mind about you,0:05and towards the end we'll be talking0:07about why apologizing can actually be0:09harmful. Welcome back to another episode0:11on the Unlearned Wisdom podcast with0:13yours truly, Pastor Johnny Chang, where0:15each episode is a gospel- centered0:17lesson that you could apply to your life0:19today.0:20>> Today.0:21>> Like, comment, and subscribe. Download0:23the audio episode. So, the reason why I0:25actually came up with this episode topic0:28is because we just came back from San0:30Jose and we also just came back from uh0:34Oakland, right? So, we we we went to the0:36Bay Area again. Shout out to you guys0:38for coming out, man. Genuinely0:40appreciate all of the support. The lines0:42were crazy. People were, you know, just0:45supporting us. But if I want to keep it0:48real, um there was some churches that0:51we've been to who obviously you guys0:52have seen online may not completely0:54agree with our doctrine and or have seen0:57just clips of how we like preach and0:59then be like we think that's their do1:02like they're preaching something1:03dogmatic, right? Like they don't believe1:05in what we believe in. But uh we went to1:09a specific church in Oakland which was1:11beautiful, you know, they had amazing1:13people. um very charismatic by the way1:15and a lot of people think that I'm1:17against charismatic things like I'm a1:19cessationist. I don't believe God1:20dreams, you know, speaks in dreams and1:22visions. But the truth is that's not1:25true. I believe God does speak in dreams1:27and visions 100%. But as long as that's1:31not taking precedence over the blood of1:32Jesus Christ and the gospel, I'm 100%1:35okay with that. Right? And so it was1:37cool to be able to go there and you1:39know, and I'm not saying this church1:40judged me at all. They were actually1:42very respectful. They're very welcoming.1:44Um, but it made me just think about1:46like, man, if these churches moved like1:50like Shiloh, like you know, shout out1:52Pastor Javier, shout out Pastor Marcus,1:55shout out Pastor Michaela. I mean, if1:58they move like them, they would be able1:59to experience and see how the Holy2:01Spirit is working through our2:02congregation. So, I kind of wanted to2:03address that, you know. Um, and so, you2:07know, when we first got on the calls, I2:09don't know if you guys remember, but the2:11pastor was like reached out to us2:13through the host form and in the end of2:15it all was like, "Dude, you know, we we2:18heard about you and Johnny, we are a2:20charismatic church." That's the first2:21line they said. We are a charismatic2:24church. And um, you know, just throwing2:27that out there. And I'm like, "Yeah, no2:28worries. We believe in Jesus. We believe2:30dreams and visions come from God as long2:32as they don't become your God." And he2:34was like, "Amen 100%."2:36>> Can you explain just for people that are2:38completely out of the know what is2:39charismatic?2:40>> So it's just like people who are very2:42gifts oriented and very gifts heavy. So2:45they focus on the Holy Spirit. They2:46focus on Jesus, but they focus more on2:49like you have to have certain like2:51dreams, visions, tongues, prophecy.2:54That's like a big thing for them, right?2:56On top of like what what Jesus is is uh2:59you know is preaching as well, right?3:01>> And where did that stem from? Um I think3:04in the 1960s there was like a movement3:07uh it was like a charismatic movement3:09where a lot of people were shifting away3:10from just original like legalistic3:13doctrine and people were just having3:16these radical um experiences and3:19radically getting saved and they were3:21just receiving the gifts and the3:22feelings of the Holy Spirit. And so uh3:26they kind of hone in on those gifts,3:28right? And it does talk about gifts in 13:29Corinthians 12, how to receive them. Um,3:32but the true gift of God is everlasting3:34life. So, you know, Romans 6:23 speaks3:37about this. But again, um, have no3:40issues with it at all. I think it's3:42okay. But there are people who just3:45idolize like they idolize anything. They3:48idolize just the gifts and then it3:50becomes like almost a distraction in a3:53lot of ways um, away from the gospel.3:57So, yeah.3:57>> So, you had that conversation and you3:59go, they go, "Hey, Johnny, we're a4:00charismatic church." and you say what4:02you said then what was the conversation4:05right after that?4:06>> So, um yeah, we had that that4:08conversation and pastor was really4:10really loving actually. He's like, "Hey,4:12like we're going to go and run this back4:14with our pastor. We're going to be able4:16to check and see if everything aligns."4:18They asked for, you know, what we4:19believed in. Um and everything aligned4:21and it was just a go. And shout out to4:24them, too. It was last minute. It was4:26either Shiloh or it was uh like some4:29field in San Francisco with literally4:32bleachers and probably like just two4:34like street preaching like amplified4:37speakers4:37>> right in the tenderloin4:38>> in the tender literally. [laughter]4:40>> Right. And so it it just Yeah, it was it4:44was wild.4:44>> No. Yeah. I like that the the pastor4:46just kept it a buck right out of the4:48gate and just asked right away. I was4:49like, "Yeah, we're a charismatic4:51church." Just to get it right clean4:53slate right away.4:54um which was good. They were very4:56kingdom partnership focused. They wanted4:58to make it happen no matter what.4:59>> Yeah. And so we get there5:02um and you know I see people speaking in5:05tongues. They're they're also praying5:07over the seats inviting the Holy Spirit5:09in which again very charismatic and um5:12yeah when the people came all I learned5:15was like to just keep it gospel centered5:18and not like try to disrespect people or5:20talk about all those other things like5:22we're one body. We're focused on one5:24kingdom. We're literally just trying to5:26preach the gospel and push it to to to,5:29you know, push people to heaven5:30basically. So, it was cool to be able to5:32meet Pastor Javier, meet those pastors,5:34and they're all like just let us do our5:36thing, and it was a beautiful, beautiful5:39event, you know. Um, we packed it out,5:42and it and we we made it back on our5:45flight in time, too, which was honestly5:46one of my worries, too. But, yeah, it5:49was really cool. They accommodated our5:50time. They cut off the line for us. They5:53were like there for us. We had like, you5:55know, it was just it was just amazing.5:57Yeah. But what, like I said, what made6:01me think about this was, man, I wish6:03every single church gave us a chance to6:05sit down and just experience cuz they're6:07all about experiences. Experience what6:09we could actually do with the community6:11where we do outreach for them. We bring6:13them to Oakland. Oakland is very6:14dangerous. Like till this day, it's got6:17a higher, you know, crime rate than LA6:19and San Bernardino and everything else.6:21And so it's pretty wild. And yet we had6:24people literally lining up outside with6:26their shoes on, Nikes, you know,6:28Jordans, whatever. And like broad day6:30just like in a residential area where6:33you could tell there's dilapitated6:34buildings. There's whole like uh we went6:37and we saw like a plaza that was just6:39completely boarded up and like fenced6:41and chainling fenced, you know, and they6:43were just like who cares? Like they were6:45there just to hear the gospel. And so6:47it's difficult for people to do6:48community outreach in communities like6:50that because I mean I want to I want to6:54hear about God but dang I don't want to6:55see God like I might go there and die in6:57the hood and like see God that day you7:00know so it's just very difficult right7:02but I think they were also very happy. I7:05felt like the heart also flipped and I'm7:07like, man, I wish a lot of people would7:08take the charge like these churches,7:10right? And go, let's put our differences7:12aside. Let's have a conversation. Let's7:15see what he actually believes in, right?7:17And they were watching me. I mean,7:18obviously, they were they were trying to7:20figure out what I would say. And all I7:22preached about was Cain and Abel, and I7:23kept the gospel centered, you know? And7:26so, it made me kind of think of like,7:28how do you deal with judgment as a7:30Christian? Because I know I'm not the7:32only one. I know that there's a lot of7:34people who face persecution because a7:36clip went up about them or not even a7:38clip on a smaller scale. Somebody's7:41sitting there and they're talking about7:42you behind your back to somebody who you7:45thought would like you and then they're7:47now blocking opportunities or7:49withholding blessings and like you know7:52chances at partnerships and you know7:54hanging out and fellowshipping because7:56somebody else spun a narrative about7:57that person and they have this7:58preconceived notion about that person8:00now. And so for me, I was able to see8:03that, you know, people will have their8:04opinions and I think everybody is8:07entitled to their opinion, but also8:09opinions only matter to the person who's8:12given that opinion, right? Um, we have8:14to kind of realize not to internalize8:16those things. And for me, the first8:18thing I I I always think about is anger8:21and defending myself, right? When8:22someone says something wrong about me8:24that's completely off or they even take8:26a clip and they literally spin it and8:28like clip it up, it does get me a little8:30frustrated because I'm like, "Dude, you8:33guys don't even know what I'm talking8:34about. You didn't even come and peep8:35game. You didn't even come and holler at8:37me. He's just trying to start stuff, you8:39know?" And I'm going to keep it real.8:40Like sometimes I'm on that timing, too,8:42where I'm like, "Man, these people are8:44so disrespectful." Like, I do want to8:46comment back. I do want to do something,8:48but I know that that's exactly what they8:49want, right? Right. And it kind of pulls8:51me back to the old me, which I I, you8:53know, pray a lot about and I'm thankful8:55that God holds on to me for that. But8:57the number one thing is that, you know,9:00um I had to learn not to treat people's9:02opinion like a courtroom. And like I9:05have to realize like they don't get a9:07verdict on you. Like in a courtroom,9:08they're not the judge. So they don't say9:10just because I said this about Johnny,9:12that's what Johnny is. Like no, you're9:14allowed to say whatever you want and9:16then I'll allow God to defend me in that9:18courtroom. Right? And that's exactly9:20what we did like front face point blank9:23point blank period at Shiloh. We sat9:25there and I said, "You know what? It's9:27going to be less about Gy Chang and it's9:29going to be more about Jesus Christ." So9:31I made myself lesser and I only spoke9:33about Jesus and I allowed space for9:36Jesus to fill the room versus like I'm9:38going to prove to them how right I am.9:39I'm going to show them who I really am.9:41It's like no, you don't need to know who9:42Johnny is. You need to know who Jesus9:44is. And so we point to Jesus Christ. You9:46know when you look at uh 1 Peter chapter9:482 verse 23 whoever when he has revi when9:53he was reviled reviled not again when he9:55suffered he threatened not but committed9:57himself to him that judges right10:00righteously right so he com you're when10:03you get judged you're supposed to commit10:04yourself to God and let God judge for10:07you and help you right but a lot of the10:09times we try to defend right we revile10:11people back and this is coming from10:13Peter Peter leveled up he went from10:15chopping ears off to going, you know10:17what? I'm not going to allow my anger to10:19deal with people cuz my anger is like10:22crazy, right? Genuinely. So, reading10:25Peter, especially first Peter, I could10:27see, man, it's it's difficult, you know,10:30but um yeah, he he kind of shows how to10:34how to carry yourself as a as a10:36Christian.10:37>> Let's say Shiloh, they were obviously10:39great, but there's other churches that10:41have fully rejected us, right?10:43>> How does that make you feel?10:45Not good. I mean, like I said, it's as a10:48human being, you know, we're going to10:50sit here and go, man, that it's sad. So,10:52it makes me feel not good. It makes me10:54feel sad cuz it's like, dude, you guys10:56don't even know. We're here to give um10:59like fellowship. We're here to bring11:01souls to the kingdom. But the fact that11:04they don't even give us that time and11:06day, it does it does feel sad. It's11:09like, yo, that's not your building,11:12right? If you truly believe that, if11:13you're truly gospel- centered, even if I11:16was quote unquote misleading these11:17people, why wouldn't you allow your11:19building to then come in and then sway11:20them back? Like, do you not care about11:21the people? If what you guys are11:23thinking that I'm misleading them, you11:25don't care about them. Like, that's just11:27what it is. I saw earlier to a Tik Tok.11:29It was a straightup Catholic priest.11:31He's straight up clowning Protestants.11:33He was like, "They don't have a church.11:35Their church is full of heretics. So,11:37those guys are not even believers." When11:39I think about that, I'm like, but why11:41wouldn't you try to go and save them and11:42help them? Like, why is it like, oh,11:45shame on you. Like, you guys don't11:46believe. See you later. You don't want11:48to listen. Get out of here. It's like,11:49that's not the heart of God. God is God11:52has never been like, you don't want to11:53listen. None of us listen. But he goes,11:55hey, even though this person doesn't11:56listen, like, I want to go and save11:57them. I want to make them I want to help11:58them. So, it's kind of sad, you know?12:01It's kind of sad to be able to see that.12:02And um more than it makes me angry, it12:05makes me more sad. like not it doesn't12:06feel good because it's like how can you12:09claim that you have the Holy Spirit and12:10you love God but then there's people who12:12are literally like wanting to go to God12:14and you're just like too bad you're12:16stupid like too bad you deserve it if12:18you're dumb you know it's like this type12:20of energy you want to go astray go12:21astray get the f out of here and that's12:24why I think performance-based religion12:26workspace religion is an issue here it's12:29like well too bad you you deserve it you12:32know I've seen that in so many in so12:33many things right when my friend got12:35shot, you know, like he got shot because12:39he got robbed, right? Literally over a12:42pack of of greens. It was in our mind.12:44He got blasted in the face. Got blasted12:46in the face. Got blasted in the neck.12:48And when we were there, we we were12:50there, right? So, we were the cops came.12:53It was the sheriff and they're like,12:55"So, what gang are you from?" They're12:57more like this guy's dying. And13:00[clears throat] they're like, "What gang13:02are you from, bro?" Like, "What hood?13:04Let me see your Oh, lift up your shirt.13:05He's like, I can't talk. He's literally13:07like through his face. Bullet through13:10his face. Bullet through his neck. I13:12can't I can't talk. Like he But I know13:14you guys are from watching. You're like,13:15man, who cares about that, bro? Save the13:17homie. So I'm like popping on, man. Save13:18the homie. He's like, shut the f up13:20before I arrest you, too. I'm like, man,13:22what the hell? You fools don't even13:23care, dog. You want this fool to die,13:25right? You want it. Like in that case, I13:28feel that energy towards a lot of people13:30too where they sit there and they're13:32just like, I don't care about God. I'm13:34gonna use my building and I'm gonna just13:36do my thing and if you guys don't follow13:38us, too bad. Go and burn. I that that is13:41not a Christian energy, right? A true13:44biblical Christian. That is a pherocical13:46energy, right? And so, yeah, I that's13:49genuinely how it makes me feel. It's13:51like, yo, y'all can't like sometimes I'm13:53gonna keep it real. I get tired of it.13:55like, yo, why is it that there's only13:57like certain people that genuinely care13:59about God? It's like a 1%. And then14:02there's a lot of people who admire God,14:03who accessorize God, but at the same14:06time, they're not really trying to, how14:08do I say, love on God. And for those14:11people, I genuinely feel fear and I also14:13feel sad. Cuz if you keep that same14:16energy and you meet God, you're going to14:18hell. It doesn't matter if your church14:20is humongous or not, you're going14:22straight to hell. It talks about this in14:24Matthew 7. It talks about this14:26everywhere, right? And yet, I just I14:30think the sadness is not that they judge14:32other people and want them to go to14:33hell. The sadness is they can't even14:35sense that they're doing that. Guys, I'm14:37coming to Europe this weekend to throw14:39free live events about the gospel. I'm14:41coming to Stockholm, Sweden this Friday,14:43June 5th. Remember guys, it's a free15:19event. So, invite your friends, invite15:20your family. The Friday and Sunday15:22events are church events. There will be15:24a sermon, a Q&A, and a meet and greet.15:26And Saturday is a big event in Dam15:28Square. We're going to have music. We're15:31going to have Q&As's as well. We're15:33going to have a little sermon from me15:34and a meet and greet. And it's just15:36going to be awesome. It's going to be in15:38a beautiful historical location and15:40we're going to have a lot of fun. So,15:41I'll see you in Dam Square, Stockholm,15:44and the Netherlands, Amsterdam.15:46>> I was just about to say that. What if15:48they truly think that you're a heretic?15:50Yeah. and and they're like, "Well, we're15:52not even going to give them the time of15:54day because we don't want a heretic in15:55our building." Then,15:56>> well, they again, they forget grace,15:58right?15:59>> It's like, "Are you always so right16:01about what you see?" Like, as human16:04beings, we can er you know, but are you16:07so right that your doctrine is so16:08soundproof? Like, it's so good that16:11you're sitting here and you're just16:12like, "Nah, I know what I know." It's16:15just all pride at the end of the day.16:17You know what? What? What's the issue16:18with like you you you can't deny certain16:21things like for example I'm sitting here16:23I don't know about Joe Austin I don't16:25know about these mega churches but I16:26would I would never be like yo they16:28they're a mega church I'm never going to16:30sit down with them I would at least at16:32the very least go what what is your what16:34do you preach about and even if they16:37don't agree with us like why would that16:40be an issue if it's all semantics is it16:42an issue salvifically right is it does16:45it affect sal meaning does it affect16:46salvation16:48And if it does, like of course we have16:50to talk about that. But what can I do to16:52sway somebody anyways, right? The reason16:55why people close off to other people is16:57because they think that they can sway16:58people. And when they can't, that's when17:00they shut them off. My job is not to17:02sway anybody. It's just to point to17:05Christ. That's it. So I don't take it17:07any type of way. Bro, if it was Mormons,17:09Jehovah's Witness, and I say this like17:10that, if they want to work, that's fine.17:13Why why wouldn't we be able to sit there17:15and and and listen and have17:17conversations and have dialogue. When17:19you stop having conversations,17:20relationships die. So God is all, you17:24know, he he talks about being swift to17:25listen, slow to speak, slow to anger.17:27These people speak and they get angry17:30and they don't want to listen. So it's17:31completely opposite of what God is even17:33commanding. The one thing that confuses17:35me the most about like workspace people17:38and people who think that they're better17:39than when you flip the works back on to17:42them, they can't handle it. like they17:43can dish it really well. They cannot17:45take it. Right? So when you tell17:47somebody like somebody asked at the live17:49event in Oakland, is one saved always17:52saved biblical? Right? Can I lose my17:55salvation? And I'm like to the people17:57who say that they can't flip it back on17:59them and be like, hey, so you you you18:02make sure you never stop sinning.18:04They'll immediately move the goalpost.18:05No, no, that's impossible. So then why18:08are you saying and telling other people18:09to stop sin? Well, I don't sin18:11deliberately. Right? It's like, but you18:13do though because if you say that you're18:15not, if you say that you're not sinning18:17however you want, that means you can18:18control your sins. If you can control18:21your sins and you have a say through the18:23Holy Spirit to control your sins, why18:26are you still sinning,18:28right? And then hiding behind this idea18:30of, well, I'm human. Like, okay, so18:35other people can't be human, but you can18:36be. That's the issue with people. And18:38that's why God says, "Oh, ye18:39hypocrites." There's only a few things18:41Jesus calls people. He calls them dogs.18:45He calls them um uh her u hypocrites. He18:48calls them vipers like snakes, right? He18:52calls them dirty. He calls them wicked.18:54He calls them liars. Like there's a few18:56things that he calls them. And it's18:58because those are the things that people19:00are, right? They lie. They sit there and19:02go, "Yeah, I follow God." But they19:04don't. They sit there and judge other19:06people when they're doing the same thing19:07other people are doing just behind19:09closed doors or they present themselves19:11cleaner than other people. Whitewash19:13tombs as the Bible says. So it's just19:16it's difficult, right? And I genuinely19:19don't believe that there are people who19:21don't sense their pride.19:23I don't think that there's anyone who19:25sits there and goes, "I'm prideful and I19:27don't know it." Every time I was19:29prideful, I knew I was being prideful19:32and I would double down, quadruple down,19:34and I'll blame other people.19:36That's just the real I don't know about19:38any of you guys, you can blame the19:40situational awareness and emotional19:42awareness, but I'm a gang member. Nobody19:44taught me about EQ and all that other19:45stuff. And I knew what I was doing was19:48wrong. I knew because if the if if you19:51don't know, then the Bible is a lie. The19:53Bible says he writes the laws in our19:54hearts, right, and in our minds. He19:57writes them so that people can't be20:00like, "Oh, I didn't know. I messed up."20:02Right? But what people don't know, and I20:04think the only thing they don't know is20:05that their unbelief is going to lead20:07them to hell. I think they actually20:09believe that they're what they're doing20:11will lead them to heaven, which I I20:13think that's the issue with people,20:15right? So, yeah. You were saying earlier20:17that you should let God defend you. What20:20does that mean? And what if the person20:23is in a situation where it's pretty20:26apparent that20:28the person like in your situation with20:30your dad, he's an alcoholic beating you20:32every day. How is God defending you in20:35that situation versus like, you know, a20:37a mean boss that you can go home at the20:40end of the night and you're separated20:41from them?20:43>> Yeah. Um I think what just in when I say20:46let God defend you in the context of20:48like what we're talking about here of20:50people just judging you. Now obviously20:52like someone comes up to you and punches20:55you in the face. I can't be like oh God20:56just defend me, right? But like God will20:59defend you either way. Like let's say21:01you do get punched in the face. Let's21:02say you do get abused every single day,21:05right? That in itself should not be21:08internalized as your identity. like I21:11got beat up by my dad all the time. Um,21:14and I hated my dad. But at the same21:16time, after what happened with that,21:18because I couldn't defend myself at21:20that. I'm a kid. But as I got older, I I21:23could have retaliated, which I tried to21:25many times, right? I I played it back in21:28my mind multiple times. If I see my dad,21:29what I'm going to do, I'll smoke him.21:31I'll do whatever it is like genuinely.21:33But when I received salvation and true21:37biblical salvation, there was no more21:39defending. It was like, okay, of course21:41my dad beat me. Of course there's times21:43where I don't know if you guys21:44experienced this, but I'm the type of21:47person where I'm a little bit different,21:49but I think a lot of people who have21:51anger issues will understand this.21:54You'll you'll you'll literally have one21:56thought and that thought will make you21:57murderous. Like nothing has happened.21:59The trauma has already passed, but it's22:01a flashback and you'll sit there and22:03you'll literally relive it and the anger22:05will come as if it's it's never left22:08you, right? So, I used to do that with22:10my dad a lot. I used to be like, "Man,22:12I'm going to like I'mma get this guy for22:14real. I'm going to go right now to his22:15house and I'm going just do him. Like,22:17that's it." And so, we we understand22:20that feeling, right? People who've ever22:22felt like this, like people viewing, you22:24know what I'm talking about, right?22:26Whether it's a spouse, somebody who22:27cheated on you, somebody who took your22:28kids away, whatever it is, something22:30that brings you to that level that a lot22:32of people don't understand. You guys22:34understand that level. So, I'm speaking22:35to you, right? Other people, you may22:37think I'm psychopathic. That's on that.22:38But the truth is, if you ain't been22:40there, you're not going to understand22:41it. Number one. Number two, when you get22:43to that level, there's a time where you22:46want to defend yourself because you22:48literally feel like fight or flight22:49mode. It's instant. Soon as that thought22:51comes in, you're instantly feeling like,22:53"Dang, I want to do something to22:55somebody because they did something to22:56me." During that time, that's when22:58salvation takes over. Oh, God. Okay,23:01fine. Right? in the meantime, right?23:03These practical questions, they're23:04great, but it's like you guys can't be23:07thinking like that too, right? The23:09viewers, like it can't just be like,23:11"Yo, solve the problem right now because23:13it's not going to happen." When has that23:15ever happened? When I'm sitting there,23:17my dad is stepping over me, punching me23:18in the face. Of course, I wanted the23:20problem to be solved, but at the same23:22time, like, it's just happening in real23:24time. How can you sit there and be like,23:26"God, defend me. You It's not going to23:29happen, guys." And if you have that23:30mindset, I'm sorry to say. I'm going to23:32just keep it real. You're basically23:33going to accessorize God because you you23:36didn't get yourself in that predicament,23:38sure. But God didn't either, right? So,23:40you have to also be clear about one23:42thing. You have to go, you know what?23:43These things in in life, whether you23:45like it or not, it's been happening in23:47your life already. You can't control23:48anything. Things are going to happen. I23:50couldn't control to have an abusive23:51alcoholic father who has compounded23:53trauma right now, right? Like, I can't23:56control if I'm going to be angry or not.23:57I'm frustrated now, but there's nothing24:00that I can control about that. It just24:01happens. So, if I'm sitting here and I'm24:03trying to do it in real time, it's not24:05something as simple as that. That's why24:07you have to allow God to defend you. Hey24:10Lord, this is who I am. This is just how24:12I feel. This is how I react. And for24:14real, you're just going to take care of24:16it. And if everybody else leaves, that's24:17on them. Do you guys understand what I'm24:19saying? It has to be like, "Hey, Lord,24:21that's just what it is." Because you are24:23not supposed to sit there and try to24:25stop it. If you notice guys, you try to24:27stop those things, it's going to get24:28worse. It gets way uglier. So, it's it's24:32a good question for a lot of people, but24:34you guys have to realize something here.24:36I can't really control anything in my24:38life. I can't control people judging us.24:41I can't change a person's mind about me.24:44There's nothing that I can do. Right?24:47So, the next question usually is, well,24:49then what do we do? Just let everybody24:51do those things? Like I mean what can24:53you truly do at the end of the day,24:55right? With these churches, for example,24:57I don't want them to look at me a24:59certain way. Your spouses, people who25:01judge you on the streets, you don't want25:03them to do that to you. Your boss, you25:05don't want them to be mean to you and25:06take their anger out on you. You also25:08don't want to be gossiping about other25:10people. You want to be acknowledging and25:12understand and take constructive25:13criticism and all that stuff, but you25:15can't. Right? That's the thing you have25:17to realize that that's why God has to25:18defend you because there's so much25:20expectation of yourself of wanting to do25:22something but you're not able to do it.25:24And because you can't do it at that at25:27that's when you have to go, God, I need25:29you to defend me. I need you to lift me25:30up. I actually need you to not just25:32defend me, but do everything for me.25:34Like that's literally what it is at the25:36end of the day. And that's the answer to25:38every single thing. And we're going to25:40harp on that until it gets through to25:42everybody because it's just not as25:44simple as, you know, 1 2 3 ABC, right? I25:47make things very simple a lot of the25:49times. But a lot of times I also have to25:50be real with you guys when it comes to25:52chastisement things like that. There's25:54nothing that I can do genuinely to like25:56make you guys see it. You're going to25:58have to go through it. And then these26:00voices that come from our podcast is26:02going to lean in and go, "Oh my gosh,26:04that's what Johnny was talking about."26:06Because a heart has to be in a position26:08to receive that as a container. I can't26:11tell you guys how to do that. One thing26:12that I'm going to keep it real is that I26:15see that in everyday life is I'm going26:18to sit here and I need you to explain26:19everything to me like top down. That in26:23itself, I'm just going to keep it real26:24and some of you guys might get mad is26:26wicked. There's nothing that we can26:28explain. There's nothing that I can26:29genuinely sit there and be like, "You26:31guys are right. Okay, you have the right26:33heart posture. You can accept You have26:34to have the right heart posture. To ask26:36me and go, how do I have the right heart26:38posture? In itself is going to be26:40selfish because you only want it to gain26:42the unlocks. You only want it to sit26:44there and go, you know what? I want a26:45better life. And respectfully, you can't26:47you can't have that. It's just what it26:49is. It's God's timing. It's God's grace.26:52And if he's going to let you get over it26:54today, you'll get over it, right? And I26:56mean, I don't I don't really know how26:57else to actually like be more real with27:00you guys. This is what spiritual life27:03is. I'm I'm going to just keep it real.27:05It's people messing up, trying to guide27:07other people, getting frustrated, but27:09then also getting back up. That's just27:11what it is. And if you want to quit,27:12quit, right? Do whatever it is that you27:14got to do. But at the end of the day,27:16God will defend you. Vengeance is God's.27:18God will lead you. He'll do whatever he27:20has to do. It has nothing to do with you27:23respectfully, right? You have to have27:25faith in that, right? But that's the27:27most difficult thing to do straight up.27:29So when people judge you, get mad, get27:31frustrated. That's that's normal when27:33people talk ill about you. Get mad. Get27:35frustrated when people think they're27:36you're stupid and whatever. Okay. And27:38then get mad. Get frustrated. But27:40understand one thing. God is going to27:42defend you. How do how is he going to do27:44it? I don't know. I don't know. Nobody27:47told you that faith would come with this27:48many unanswered questions. You pray, you27:50read, you fast, you tithe, and yet27:53you're still not growing. But there are27:55things that you're still carrying that27:56you haven't said out loud to anybody.27:58Not because the answer doesn't exist,27:59but because you don't know who to ask.28:01That's exactly why every Tuesday I do a28:04group mentorship session. You bring your28:06questions and whatever you've been28:07sitting on, whether it's a decision you28:09can't make, past trauma you're still28:11working through, or a relationship28:13that's draining you, and I answer them28:14scripturally, foundationally, with28:16biblical truths that meet you exactly28:19where you are. Even if you're not ready28:20to ask a question yet, come and listen28:23in. Because chances are somebody else in28:25that room is carrying the same weight28:27you are. It doesn't matter if you're new28:28in faith or you've been walking with God28:30for many years. No question is too28:32small, too messy, or even too28:34complicated. The group mentorship is an28:36exclusive benefit for gold members only.28:38To join, download Coreheart daily or use28:41the link in the description. I'll see28:43you guys Tuesday. So, we just talked28:45about how you have no control over your28:48judgment. Like, you got to leave it up28:50to God, right? I can't judge the way28:52people think about me. Blah blah blah28:53blah blah. So,28:56is there a way to actually change28:57someone's mind about you?28:59>> Number one, yes, there is a way29:01obviously to change someone's mind about29:03you. The first thing you got to do is29:06don't defend yourself.29:08Like, I feel like the more you defend29:11yourself, it makes you look worse. If29:13somebody already has their mind made up29:15about you and then you're trying to like29:17win their approval or like sway their29:19mind, then it looks like straight up29:21performative, right? Like you're just29:22like, "No, no, no. Okay, I'll show you29:24why you have to like me." It's like,29:26"Bro, you don't have to do that." Right.29:28So, I don't know. What do you guys29:30think?29:32What do you think?29:34What? Oh, you're trying to pretend.29:36>> Passing it to you.29:38>> Oh, you're trying to pretend.29:39>> I mean, I guess I'm I'm the opposite,29:41right? I'm terrible at this. Every time29:44when somebody feels some type of way29:45about me, I try to defend myself. M29:49>> I guess it happens in and I it's more in29:53like the business sense always. It's29:55like29:55>> if a vendor comes to you and they're hey29:59you overcharged us or whatever it is or30:02if uh uh you know a customer is like you30:06know this product sucks and it's like30:09well you didn't read the my first30:10reaction is did you read the30:11instructions? You probably didn't you30:12didn't blah blah blah blah blah. So,30:14like I'm just trained.30:16I'm just kidding. Hey, put your hands30:18now. No questions. Um I'm just trained30:22to defend.30:24>> Yeah. Well, okay. But what's the heart30:26behind that? Right. Cuz you could sit30:28there and just be like like you're30:30freaking stupid. Like did you read the30:32or is it like like how you normally did30:35you read the destruct? Did you read the30:36instruction?30:36>> It's a mixture. Depends on the person30:38what mood I'm in that day. I'd say more30:40times than not30:42>> the first reaction is not like a nice30:44defense.30:45>> Yeah. Well, okay. Why though?30:48>> Is it just cuz we we you have an30:50intolerance for people who just suck.30:52>> No, it'll No, no, no, no. It'll maybe be30:54like it'll maybe if it was like the30:56setup was clear, then it'll be like you30:58didn't even take the tiniest amount to31:00then make this judgment towards this31:01thing I poured my life into31:03>> to then31:04>> act that way. So,31:06>> you're going to get you're going to get31:07the31:08>> the whooping.31:09>> Yeah. Yeah,31:10>> which is it's but it's very hard. How I31:12see it is you're just kind of like,31:13"Yeah, I'm wrong." You roll over.31:17>> I mean, in some parts, yes. I think it31:19just again depends on people's heart31:21posture for some reason. Like, I'm a lot31:23weaker than a lot of people. So, I tend31:26to see where they mess up a lot31:29>> versus like you and most people have31:32this mindset where it's like I did31:35everything in my power to do it all to31:38make it easy for you to see and31:40understand and yet you still didn't31:43catch that, right? And and that's also31:45okay to be like that. But for me, I I31:48always I think Pastor Kim has a31:50beautiful balance of that where like31:52sometimes he straight up chastises me.31:55Like how could you not see that, right?31:57And then I I guess my heart is ready to31:59take it at but then other times I'll be32:01like he he'll be like I'll be blatantly32:04messing up on something and then he'll32:07be like, "Yeah, it's okay." Like I I do32:09that, too. So it's so weird. It's hard,32:12man. It's It's a hard thing to kind of32:14grasp, I guess. But yeah, you can't32:17really change somebody's mind about you.32:20What you can do is how you respond to32:22that person and what they think about32:24you. You can control that. So for me,32:26again, when people are calling me32:28heretic or they're like, "You suck. You32:31this." Like, of course, I'm going to be32:32like, "Bro, you don't even know me like32:34that." But the second part and the32:35second heart that comes is always like,32:38"Well, if I acknowledge this, then yeah,32:40I I I messed up." You know? So, a lot of32:43times I crash out and I'll crash out32:45super crazy. Everybody around me is32:47always like, "Damn, bro. This guy's like32:50like cuz it's it's just difficult." You32:52know, the way my brother explains this,32:54and I'm not trying to like oust him, but32:56he's like, "Bro, Johnny, you're like a32:58cancer, bro. Like, when you get mad,33:01anybody can get it." And I'm just like,33:04"Don't say that." He's like, "No, I'm a33:06Scorpio." [laughter]33:09God,33:13[laughter]33:14>> why do you say that? That's witchcraft.33:16No, I'm just kidding. Just kidding. No,33:18but yeah, he he's like, "You're like33:20you're like you're like cancer in that33:22you spread." And it's so true. I don't33:24know. I'm a little different, but if I'm33:27being vulnerable,33:29I'm the type of person that when I get33:32mad, if anyone's just in my vicinity,33:35they they they get like chewed out, too.33:38They didn't even do anything. Like, they33:40don't even do anything. And I'm just33:41like,33:42>> it's everybody.33:43>> No, that's not true.33:45>> Not on my level.33:46>> Well, not on your level for sure.33:48>> No, but like you don't even know my33:50level.33:51>> Oh, yeah. True. Never really seen it33:52before. [laughter]33:53>> You don't even know my level. Aaron,33:55what are you looking at?34:01>> But dude, of course it like spills over34:02naturally. Like you get a fight with34:04your girl, [clears throat] then you go34:05to work and then first person like that34:07talks to you, you're just already in a34:08pissy mood,34:09>> right? I think it has a lot to do with34:11proximity. Like people who are close to34:13you. Like for me in terms of who I get34:15mad at and even who I let judge me, if34:17it's someone I don't know, it's like34:18nothing. They can't judge me and I can't34:20even get mad at them. But then if it's34:22someone like Jeremy, it's like I'll be34:24so mad. I'll not let them judge me. I'll34:26correct them. And then if it's someone34:27taking it a step further like my sister34:29or like my sibling will really go at it.34:32Um, and it's just like I'm like,34:33>> and I think being on social media gives34:35you really thick skin cuz everyone's in34:37the DMs telling you to off yourself and34:39X Y and Z. And you just have to have the34:41mindset of like34:42>> like your booze mean nothing to me. I've34:44seen what makes you cheer. It's like the34:45people online like that's a high heart,34:47but it's just like you don't even34:48understand what I'm doing. You don't34:49know me. How can you judge me? But if34:51it's someone like Jeremy who knows me34:52intricately and he's judging me,34:54>> you value his opinion.34:56>> No, you're I'll fight him tooth and34:57nail. I'll die on every hill. And it's34:59just like35:00>> actually all this is moot because you35:01get mad at all the people on the road.35:03>> Yeah, that's true, too. [laughter]35:06>> You know, screw them. They're different.35:09>> That's funny.35:09>> But no. Yeah, like people people judging35:11me like online or just random people.35:13It's like you don't know me. I mean,35:15it's it's high-hearted, but it's like35:16>> is that high-hearted35:18>> to be like35:19>> is it high-hearted to to not care about35:22someone's judgment or what people say35:23about you because they don't know you?35:26>> Well, it depends. But because if you're35:28like I'm not going to care because I35:30want them to see that I don't care about35:32them, then yeah, it's like you're just35:33doing something like like a tit for tat.35:36If it's genuinely like, no, I'm secure35:38in what I feel, my faith, my35:41[clears throat] emotions. Yeah, you can35:43say whatever you want. Like I don't35:44care.35:44>> Is it not how I felt like I feel like35:46that stance for me is high-hearted only35:48because it's like this is not how I35:50actually feel, but the sentiment is35:51like, well, you're just an idiot cuz you35:53don't understand my art. Like you're35:55just you're dumb. I'm better than you.35:56You just don't understand my feel that35:58way. And that's why I'm kind of barted36:00with it.36:00>> That's a little bit36:01>> not genius. I'm not like, "Oh, I'm a36:02genius." But I'm like, you're36:04>> I click on your profile picture. It's36:06like I know. [laughter]36:07>> Yeah, bro.36:08>> You ain't got it like that. You got it.36:11[gasps]36:11>> Damn. Click on their profile picture.36:13>> And I look at them and I'm like I'm36:15like, "Okay." Like, you can't really say36:17that.36:17>> Give me signs that they don't got it36:18like that. I'm just kidding. We're We're36:20literally cancelled. Zero followers.36:23>> Yeah. [laughter]36:24>> Double double chin. I was about to be36:27like, uh,36:28>> the 10 Jeremy had a 10 top 10 list36:31[laughter]36:32>> of of why San Francisco is the worst36:34city in the world,36:34>> bro. You're crazy.36:35>> Yeah, it'll come out in the video, but36:38it is San Francisco is easily one of the36:40worst cities in the in the whole United36:42States. I would say in the world.36:44>> Jeremy's from San Francisco, by the way.36:46>> No, I'm from a little bit south. I would36:48never live in San Francisco. That's how36:50>> Paulo Al.36:51>> Yeah, I'm from the area.36:52>> Yeah. No. Um, I think when it comes to36:55just spiritual stuff, like I I [snorts]36:59obviously wanted to change people's37:01minds early on, like before you guys37:03kind of helped me and and did all that.37:06I I I hit the scene. Mark Lea was37:10literally like, "Dude, it's 99% positive37:14comments." So then I hop on I do my live37:17streams you guys know 1 2 a.m. in the37:20morning till and people would just hop37:22on and be like, I'm struggling with37:24depression and I'm helping them. They're37:26like, whoa. And I'm just building the37:28following people. The chat is moving37:30like there's 3,000 people in it when37:32there's only like 70 people. And so I37:35[clears throat] think at that time I was37:36like, "Oh, this is what is everybody37:38tripping about social media about?" Mind37:40you, I didn't have like thousands of37:42[laughter] followers. I'm like, "How37:43come people just be getting butt hurt37:45over nothing? What the hell?" Like,37:46they're mad.37:47>> Everyone's so nice.37:48>> Yeah, everyone's so nice. Social media37:49makes people off themselves. What the37:52hell? And [snorts] then we started37:54hitting millies. And then that was when37:57people were like, "Yeah, hair attack."37:59And I was like, "What?" Like, I'm just38:01telling people that they should focus38:03more on Jesus and his blood and not more38:05on this. And and they get super crazy.38:07And I'm like, whoa. And what's crazy is38:11I had this energy of like we even from38:14the homies sometimes we love you but38:17like and we want you to do good but just38:20don't do better than me. Like it's this38:22energy of like they cap you at a ceiling38:25and it's like dang because it goes from38:27dang bro you getting famous homie homie38:30you famous to man what before you think38:33you're all that or what oh you're a liar38:34dog well you do that well you well you38:36don't help how come you don't bring38:37people around it becomes this and I'm38:39just like what so and again it's just38:43that one M next to your thing or like38:46one point whatever you know people just38:48start to switch man so I've had to learn38:52like make yourself smaller, make Jesus38:55bigger. That's just the number one38:57thing, right? And and I've learned also39:00that you got to just leave it up to God.39:02I ain't going to lie, a lot of the times39:03when people turn their backs on me, it's39:06no one, it doesn't matter how grounded39:08you are spiritually, no one likes that.39:09And it's very painful. It's very painful39:12to know people that you've known since39:1520 plus years, even 30 years, to then39:19just watch that relationship go down the39:21toilet, go down the drain because, you39:24know, of something that they felt some39:26type of way or some miscommunication. It39:28really does suck. But I had to also39:30leave that up to God. Be like, man, God,39:33you know what? Like, and and at first, I39:35didn't even know how to leave it up to39:36God. It was in that in that same realm39:39of that high-heartedness, too, where I'm39:41like, "Oh, it's because they're dumb39:42gang members. They're not going to39:43understand this. Oh, they didn't even39:45care about Christianity, man. When I was39:46trying to put them on, they didn't even39:48care. And now I'm all on and they're39:49like mad that they're not on with me."39:51Like, had you had just read the Bible,39:53you freaking idiots. You would have been39:55up there with me. Like, you know, I I39:57I'm the type of dude to take the hood39:58with me for real. Like, always I've40:00always been like that. I bailed out40:02people. I've always been like that. And40:05it's like, but we don't have the the40:07same hearts. Like, they don't care till40:10this day. A lot of them don't care about40:11no Jesus and God. So, what you going to40:14come to my events and what? You know,40:16like holler at shorties who are like,40:19I'm celibate. They're going to be like,40:21"What? Celery? That's a vegetable." They40:24won't even know what that is.40:27>> Yes. For real.40:27>> In Fortnite terms, they didn't rush the40:29squad, but they wanted to pick up the40:31loot.40:33>> What does that mean? Thanks, Aaron.40:34>> Hey, hey, hey. It all went silent.40:37They're just [laughter] like,40:38>> "Thanks. I got my one guy back."40:39>> Didn't rush with the squad. Oh,40:42>> but they want to collect the loot. So,40:43you completed the task and then they40:45come and get the good guys.40:46>> One guy killed the whole team, but they40:47all come pick up the loot from the dead40:49guys.40:49>> That's crazy.40:50>> Don't want to rush the squad with me.40:52>> You're not picking up the loot.40:54>> Dang, that's that's a bar.40:56>> If anyone needed it explained in40:57Fortnite terms,40:58>> Yeah. Yeah. There's going to be a41:0112-year-old listening that's like, "Oh,41:03unlocks.41:04>> Thanks, Aaron Chang. [laughter]41:07>> Finally understand.41:08>> This podcast is so understandable."41:10>> So, with that being said, too, I also41:13would apologize to my homies a lot. I41:16realize I would, hey, I'm sorry. Hey, my41:17bad. My bad. But, bro, even that, man,41:21God showed me why apologizing can be so41:23super harmful. Because41:25>> apologizing can be harmful.41:27>> Yeah, dude. Because literally most41:29apologizing comes from pressure, not41:33actual accountability.41:36>> Explain.41:36>> Like I felt like I was pressured because41:40dang, I'm the they're my homies and like41:42they don't like me. So the the the41:44apology was more for my gain than41:46theirs.41:47>> Like dang, I want to get on their right41:48side again. My bad.41:50>> But really, are you feeling sorry? No.41:53you're just like performatively being41:55like, yo, you know, like h like I want41:58to feel right. You know what I mean?42:00Like I just Yeah. And then what it was42:02doing was it was creating it was42:06affirming the version that they had in42:08their head about me.42:10>> You know, it's like saying sorry to a42:12narcissist.42:14>> Like the narcissist is like, I'm going42:16to [clears throat] play you. And then42:18when you say sorry and you really mean42:20it, they're like, "Oh, this person I can42:22manipulate."42:23>> Oh,42:23>> right. It's like this backwards thinking42:25where I just Yeah. I'm like, "Hey, my42:27bad. My bad." And they're like, "Yeah,42:29you should be. You should be." So, if42:31you guys want to go deeper with the42:32Bible unlocks and just having these42:34biblical resources, guys, we created an42:36app called Core of the Heart Daily.42:38Every single morning, I write a personal42:39daily devotional. It's on the app43:06store called Horror of the Heart Daily.43:08Link is in the description. Back to the43:10episode. Well, the world famous story of43:13you apologizing to your father at that43:15point.43:16>> At at that point though, Pastor Kim made43:18you do that, but he probably knew your43:20dad was still a narcissist.43:22>> Yeah.43:23>> So, he was also doing it knowing,43:26>> didn't he tell you like, well, he didn't43:28tell you what the outcome would be, or43:29he's like, "Hey, it's for you, Johnny."43:30>> Yeah.43:31>> It was more for you.43:32>> Yeah. But,43:33>> but he did say, "By faith, regardless of43:36what it is, I believe God will work43:38through this." That's what verbatim.43:40>> Mhm. by faith. If you move by faith, the43:43only thing that can come out is faithful43:45things basically.43:46>> Okay. So, so a lot of you guys, let me43:49address this real quick. A lot of you43:51guys used to rock with me. I used to43:53literally, Jeremy, do Bible classes with43:56people one on-one. So, I would do the43:59hybrid. You guys know TSA plus pre plus44:02clear?44:02>> Yeah.44:02>> TSA pre-clear.44:04>> Wow. You would do that?44:05>> I would do one on-one Bible class with44:08>> just a random person. rando. I'd give44:10them my number.44:11>> Wow.44:12>> They'd call me at 2 a.m. Hello.44:18I'm just [laughter] like,44:21how did I mix? I mixed Vietnamese and44:23Spanish. [laughter]44:26What the hell? Anyways, okay. Shout out44:29to my Vietnamese people and my Mexican44:31homies. But [clears throat] they're44:33literally like calling me. I'm helping44:36them.44:37every question they got, whatever. And44:40mind you, it was for free. I would do44:43this for free. And I did this double44:46digits, like 20some people for sure. And44:50sadly, till this day, they're not even44:53in the Bible class. Like, I did all that44:56nurturing and pouring. And I realized44:58something, dude. What I was doing45:02was when people sit there and they have45:04this mindset of you owe me. You're a45:08minister. I'm not. You're in a better45:10place. Literally, somebody said45:12something. The guy was like, I'm from45:14Africa and I'm from where Dimbe Matumbul45:17is from. This is from Africa. No, he45:19wasn't an African prince scammer. Okay,45:22Jerome,45:22>> I wasn't thinking that.45:23>> What were you thinking?45:24>> Just funny name.45:25>> No, no, no,45:26>> no, no, no.45:27>> Who is that? You don't know who Kimbe45:29Matumbbo is?45:30>> This guy.45:31>> He was in those commercials.45:33>> No, no, no.45:34>> My parents didn't let me watch. He's a45:36really tall guy.45:36>> Sixers. Basketball player.45:38>> Yeah. Number 55.45:39>> I didn't want to say that. And then all45:41of a sudden I was like, is he45:42>> the Nuggets too? He was originally from45:44the Nuggets and he he finished out his45:45career, I think, in the Sixers with AI.45:48>> But anyways,45:48>> yeah.45:49>> Um, he was from him and from from him.45:53He was his father. No, he he was from45:56the same country of Africa, you know,45:58part of Africa that he was from. And he46:00goes, you know, I really love Dimbe46:02Mumbo's mentality. I said, what is it?46:03He goes, he said that when you uh go up46:07somewhere, send a letter a ladder down.46:09And he goes, Johnny, you do that. I'm46:11like, what do you mean? So you raised up46:13and you have a lot of people now and46:15followers and you're like sending46:17ladders down to us, right? But that46:20person ended up turning on me46:22completely. was like, "Dude, you you you46:25know, your messages are not hitting like46:27before." He's like, "Hella," whatever it46:29was that that that was a fallout was46:31essentially I didn't live up to his46:33standard. And even him, I was like,46:35"Hey, I apologize. I'm sorry." But then46:37when I went to Pastor Kim to seek46:39guidance, he hella scolded me. He's46:41like, "That guy, that guy you said sorry46:44to." I was like, "Am I not supposed to46:46say sorry if somebody's No, Johnny. He's46:49thinking what? like you're look at his46:52heart, Johnny. You're supposed to help46:54me.46:56>> Why? Cuz you're better, right? And then46:58it made me think about when Tracy You47:01know who Tracy Morgan is?47:03>> Of course.47:03>> Right. Ballpark Franks, right? That fu,47:05right? He's like he sat there and he was47:08he saw his friend who was homeless from47:11back then. Did you see that clip47:12recently,47:14>> right? And then the the guy was like,47:16>> "Yo, man, you got money. You supposed to47:18help me." And he literally goes,47:20>> "What do you mean I didn't I didn't make47:22you like that?" or something like that,47:23right? And then everyone's like, "Whoa."47:25And he just looked back. He's like,47:26"What? I didn't make you like that. That47:28ain't my fault. That ain't on me." And I47:30was like, "Dang." Now, even that we feel47:33like is abrasive. But low-key, it's47:35true, though. Oh, I'm homeless and47:37you're my homie. You're supposed to help47:38me. Really? But if the shoe was on the47:41other foot, would you help me? Probably47:43not. I know when I was struggling,47:45shoot, ain't nobody help me 100%. I had47:48to I went to prison by myself and I47:50parrolled by myself. And at the same47:52time, it's like, how are you going to47:54sit there and expect a handout? You know47:56what I mean? It was crazy to me. So, it47:59it when I saw that Pastor Kim checked48:01me, that's when I aligned my heart and I48:03said, "I'm not doing this anymore." And48:05even then, I felt this feeling of like,48:08"This isn't right, Johnny. You shouldn't48:10be doing that. That's bad. You know,48:11you're going to be like abandoning48:12people." when I literally said no, he48:14taught me this power of no, right?48:17Pastor Kim was like, "When you say no,48:19people's real heart comes out." Because48:22if you say yes to everything, they're48:25how they're not going to go against you.48:26You're saying yes to everything. The48:29power of no. And women understand this48:30really well. If a woman is like dating48:32someone and he's like, "Oh, I got48:34crosses on my back." Philippians 4:13.48:38But then he's like, "Hey baby, I want to48:39cuddle with you." And you're like, "No."48:42right there. If a man is from God, he's48:45gonna be like, "I respect that." But if48:47a man isn't from God, even though he got48:49Philippians 4 and his profile is, you48:51know, I love God and I love Jesus and48:54and he starts tripping on you, then you48:57already know what time it is, right? So49:00at the same time when I said no to these49:02people, I just told him, "Hey, Pastor49:04Kim uh told me that, you know, I got to49:06focus a little bit on other things. So49:08I'm going to stop doing this mentorship49:10to bro. The amount of people 99% except49:14for one person who actually she ended up49:16passing away, right? But she that's the49:18only reason like when I went to go49:20message her, she had already like passed49:22away, right? She had cancer, all that.49:24So I was mentoring her and she she was49:25great. Aside from her, every single49:28person was like, "Man, f Pastor Kim."49:32That was the energy cuz I kept it real.49:34I said, "Pastor Kim said he needs me to49:36do other stuff." Yeah, but we need help,49:38too. Why would he Why does he get to49:40dictate who gets help and who doesn't49:41get help? And what he they started doing49:43this. And that's when I was like, "Yo."49:47And it's the same thing like even now49:50when we have people, you know, who were49:52given free things, they're just like,49:54"Well, it should be free." like this49:56energy is like never, you know, wow,49:59thank you. It's it's usually, right? I50:02can't say never, but it's usually more50:03often than not. You're supposed to do50:06that, though. You Why? You're You know50:08who I am. You're supposed to help me.50:09It's like, yo, but we're not though.50:11>> Mhm.50:12>> Right. I seen it in OC, too. People50:14don't help us find a venue in OC. We50:17couldn't get one in OC. We ended up50:19going to Whittier.50:20>> You know how many people I counted50:22double digits. No lie. came up to me,50:24took a picture. We're sitting there. I50:27took a picture with the whole church.50:29>> Yep.50:30>> And these girls are like, "By the way,50:32this is an OC." And they're, as they're50:34taking a photo, as they're asking me to50:37sign their Bible, as they're asking me a50:39question, and I'm just like, "Y'all50:43don't even care, dude." Like, there's50:45another time, too. We threw this event.50:48Jeremy's like, "When it comes to you50:50guys, you guys know I pop off. So like50:52these ladies literally were from this50:54church and they were like you know we're50:57sitting there I'm answering questions50:59we're doing free event here after51:01service and um the lady comes up and she51:05goes how do you feel about having a51:07person who literally has an alcohol51:10company and is also helping you and51:13looks at me like that and you see Jeremy51:16literally hobbling around cuz he had51:18messed up his uh what was it? Achilles.51:21He taped it. He's like, "Yo, I got to51:23tape it." He's hobbling, running, moving51:25mic stands, hopping up, hopping down.51:28And I'm like, "Oh, you mean that guy51:29that's hobbling around right now?51:31Jeremy, they're talking about you. They51:33said you own this alcohol company." And51:35then he just like looked back like,51:36"What?" And he just walked off. But I'm51:39like, "You mean this guy?" And they're51:41like, "Yeah, he owns I'm like, "You mean51:42the one who's ran who planned our event,51:44ran our event, did all these things?"51:46And I was like checking them in real51:47time. I was like, "Man, like you guys51:50could like basically go." And the lady51:52was like, "No, it was just a question."51:54Like trying to flip it passive51:55aggressive. It was just a question like,51:56"Whoa, like if he quit, like what?51:59That's a beautiful thing. Hallelujah.52:00Like what? I'm [laughter] just so what52:02if he didn't quit?" But he's sitting52:03here and he's offering those things.52:04Like what are you talking about right52:06now? You know, you're in our place at52:09our free live event getting pictures and52:12you're judging and ridiculing. Man, come52:14on y'all. For real. That is like way too52:17crazy. So imagine if I sat there, oh,52:19I'm so sorry, sister. You're so52:21anointed. Hallelujah. Amen. Yeah,52:24Jeremy, come over here. You answer these52:26people. Like they would sit there and52:27just be like, they would like soak it52:29all up. They would eat it up. But it's52:31like that's not the right heart posture52:32to have. So again, yes, apologize,52:36apologizing to somebody who has a heart52:39of a Pharisee52:40is probably the most dangerous thing you52:43can do for somebody is you will you52:45you're boosting their ego. You're52:46stroking their ego. You're stroking52:48their pride. And that's not what we're52:50supposed to do. Jesus didn't do that.52:52And neither did any of the apostles do52:54that. So yeah, it's very, very, very52:56dangerous.52:57>> This is why I never apologize to you.52:59[laughter]53:00>> Just keep that in mind. I learned53:01something.53:02>> You don't want to stroke my pride.53:04>> Yes.53:04>> You be stroking other things.53:06>> Hey, pause with this. [laughter]53:10>> Jesus.53:10>> And so, yeah, a lot of times too, like53:13[snorts]53:13people also apologize out of fear. So,53:15I'm not saying there's an opposite end53:17where some people are just fearful and53:19they want approval from people. That53:21also is something you guys got to be53:23cautious about. Oh, I'm just going to53:25say sorry because I don't want conflict53:26or confrontation.53:28>> You know, that's not humility. So,53:30please don't. There's a difference53:31between fear and humility.53:34>> Fear is like, "Dude, I I'm I look like a53:37bad person now." All right.53:39>> Making sure he's listening carefully.53:40Listen carefully [laughter] to this53:41part. apologizing just to keep quote53:44unquote peace.53:46>> So fear says I need to apologize because53:50then they'll think bad about me and53:52they'll keep thinking bad about me which53:53is still you at the center. Humility is53:55hey I messed up and even if they think53:57bad about me that's fine. I deserve53:59that. But I at least have to let them54:01know that I truly acknowledge and I'm54:03accountable in my bad and how you feel54:05completely valid. If you want to cut me54:07off also valid. That's humility is to54:10go, hey, I I I don't want you to walk54:12away thinking that I don't care about54:13you. I'm sorry. You know what I mean?54:15Versus like, I got to say sorry cuz now54:18they're going to think I'm stupid and54:19they don't like me and this and this and54:20that. But the next question usually I54:23get out of this is always, but then how54:26do I stop that if that's just my default54:28setting? Cuz some people will just get54:29scared and just rip it, right? I'm54:32sorry. I'm so sorry. Oh, right. And it's54:34to be it's to not seek validation from54:36people. is to realize, hey, no matter54:39what, I don't want people to like love54:42the version that I'm portraying. I would54:45like for them, and this is to do54:47yourselves a solid, like for them to54:49love you for who you are. I crash out on54:51my team. Of course, there's times where54:53I don't want them to like look at me a54:56certain way because I'm human and I'm54:57the leader. But sometimes I also have to54:59acknowledge like, hey, I crashed out and55:01I messed up. And um if they think I'm55:04stupid, then I'm stupid.55:07>> I don't, but Aaron does.55:10>> That again. [laughter]55:11It's55:12>> like lobbing it on.55:13>> Yeah.55:14>> Trying to get him beat up.55:16>> Yeah.55:16>> Yeah. Aaron, what do you think about55:17that last point? [snorts]55:19>> Apologizing for to keep peace.55:22>> That you shouldn't do that.55:24>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.55:25>> Do you resonate with that at all?55:27>> Does Aaron do that?55:29>> Yes.55:29>> A lot.55:30>> Apologize just to keep the peace. you55:32apologize a lot.55:33>> I think it's more about um55:37like not not apologizing to keep the55:40peace, but uh realigning.55:43I don't know. Like I'll apologize when55:46I'm wrong.55:48>> Yeah. Yeah. I noticed that. Aaron, you55:50don't He doesn't really apologize for55:53like when he doesn't feel like it. He'll55:55even like lead with that too.55:57>> Sometimes he No, no. Sometimes he goes,55:59"Hey, I'm56:00>> if I did something wrong, I'm sorry."56:02Like he says that right. It's like you56:03didn't do anything.56:04>> But that's to not offend people though.56:06>> Like that's a little bit different, I56:08think.56:08>> Oh, got it. Just56:09>> versus like, oh, I don't want them to56:11look at me evil and bad. Like he's not56:13trip. He just is like, yo, I don't want56:14to make you I don't want to come off and56:16make you feel bad as like, you know what56:18I mean? I don't know. I'm I'm sure56:20there's times where he might do it, but56:21I don't I've never seen I actually never56:24really seen you do that. That's the56:26thing is like I don't really I mean56:27obviously no one tries to and everyone56:29does sometimes but I rarely lie. Like56:32it's really hard for me and I feel56:33really bad and you can read it on me56:34right away.56:35>> That's a lie right now. [laughter]56:37>> That's the lie. No, but it's like like56:39back in the day when you'd be like, "Are56:40you high right now?" I would never say56:42no. [laughter] Like I would just look at56:45him like I don't know, man.56:47>> He always has that laugh and he goes56:50[clears throat]56:50>> Yeah. I'll just say something like,56:52"Man, get off my back, man." and I would56:53just say something, but I would never56:54say no because there's like something56:55inside of me I just like like I like56:58would know I'm lying.56:59>> But like um if I'm apologizing for57:01something and stuff like that like maybe57:03the way I lie is by not is by57:05withholding information. That's how I57:07lie. So if it's like57:08>> So you don't respond like that's your li57:10like you're you're not lying. You just57:11won't respond to57:12>> like I know you're not straight57:14[laughter]57:16>> but like Yeah. Like if I feel some type57:18of way I maybe won't say something. Um,57:20and like that's kind of a form of lying,57:22but like um if I'm apologizing, it's57:26usually because I'm sorry,57:28>> basically.57:29>> I think you're like that too, Jerome.57:32>> Like what?57:33>> Like you won't you won't apologize if57:35you don't57:36>> if I'm not wrong.57:37>> Yeah. Which is good. Honestly, it is a57:39good thing because look, sometimes just57:42do like I said, it comes back to the57:43point where like if you're just doing it57:45because you you don't actually feel it.57:48>> People are not stupid either. I mean, I57:50I I I can sense when someone is like not57:53really sorry, but they're just saying it57:55just cuz. You know what I mean? It's57:57like formality or whatever. I genuinely58:00want people to also just And if you58:02don't stand 10 toes,58:03>> but you also say a lot of times like,58:05"Hey, just be wrong." That's not58:07apologizing.58:07>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.58:08>> Yeah. But what explain that concept.58:10>> Okay. So being wrong it it depends58:12obviously on heart posture but it means58:14like acknowledging yourself in front of58:18God in that situation. So I'll give you58:20an example.58:22When my friends are like yo you don't58:25care about us anymore.58:28That's wrong. I do care about them. I58:30want them to go to heaven. Honestly I58:31genuinely do care about the homies. I58:33would have taken a hundred years for any58:35of them. I would have died for them.58:36It's just the real It's just the real.58:38You don't live a life like that and58:39build a bondage like that and then be58:41like, you know, and just give up on58:45people. It just doesn't happen. But when58:48they were like, "Hey, you don't care58:49about me." That was the thing that would58:51tick me off. Like,58:53>> man, what do you mean, man? I did this58:54for you. I did that. I want to do that.58:57But right there, I had to acknowledge58:59that in front of God though, I am I59:02would like according to scripture, I am59:05that type of person. Like I could59:07probably switch up. I don't think I59:08would ever switch up to be honest. I59:10don't think I would ever snitch. But59:12that's my heart. And someone else had59:14that heart, too. His name was Peter.59:16Peter literally sat there. Think about59:18it. Jesus Christ sat there and he said,59:20"The the time has come where the59:22shepherd is going to get struck and all59:24of you guys are going to you're going to59:25run away. you're going to scatter right59:28there. We should We know that Jesus can59:30never lie. We know that Jesus kept it59:32real and he's never lied about anything59:33up until that point, too. Never lied.59:36So, although Peter got buttth hurt cuz59:38he I I wholeheartedly believe Peter was59:41like, "I'll die for you." When he said59:42that, I believe he he he believed that,59:45but he also overlooked the fact that God59:49himself can never lie. So he took his59:52feelings above what God said about him.59:56And if if Peter was right, then Jesus59:59would be wrong and the scripture would1:00:00be wrong because the scripture says all1:00:02men are liars. Let God be true. The1:00:03heart is deceitful. You don't know what1:00:05you're talking about. Basically, so he1:00:08didn't see that though. He doubled down.1:00:11He sat there and was like, "Dude, they"1:00:13and he even dissed everyone else. He's1:00:14like, "They may be the ones that run1:00:16away." freaking little doubting Thomas1:00:18and all these, but you you Jesus know1:00:22me. I'm not going to do that to you. I1:00:24chopped the person's ear off. I took1:00:25penitentiary chances. I feel like that1:00:28even now, but there's this one thing of1:00:30being wrong, of going, I don't think1:00:32I'll ever snitch. But according to the1:00:35Bible, hearts can change. And if hearts1:00:38can change, my determination that can go1:00:40so right can go left completely, too.1:00:43Like, you never know. And that's what it1:00:46means to be wrong is to acknowledge that1:00:48there's a possibility that you are1:00:50right. It's not to say I'm wrong. Okay,1:00:52I'm wrong. It's more of like, hey,1:00:54according to God though in this1:00:55predicament, none of us are right,1:00:58>> right? It's kind of like this.1:01:00>> But you say it verbally at times, right?1:01:02Like even in like sometimes it's like1:01:04joke situations between you and I, but1:01:06you'll be like,1:01:07>> "I'm sorry. Yeah, I'm wrong." You know1:01:09what I'm saying? I can't think of like1:01:10an actual situ situation.1:01:12>> So then why are you saying that? If if1:01:15we're both quote unquote wrong in the1:01:17eyes of God in a situation1:01:19>> and let's say you say you come with that1:01:21heart1:01:22>> because that's but he doesn't1:01:24>> then it's like1:01:26>> okay now this guy thinks that I'm wrong1:01:28but that's not what I meant.1:01:29>> That's a good very good point.1:01:30>> Wrong is I understand what you mean by1:01:32wrong now. Wrong is like a heart posture1:01:34of okay in the eyes of God like we're1:01:37both wrong and let's solve this1:01:39>> to whatever will fix the situation.1:01:42Yeah. But in a human to human1:01:44interaction,1:01:47[laughter] it's, "Hey, I'm wrong." And1:01:49he takes it as, "Yeah, you're wrong."1:01:51>> And then now it's like, "All right,1:01:52well,1:01:52>> wait. I have a question for you, Crow1:01:53Magnum. Why do you care so much if1:01:56someone thinks you're wrong?"1:01:57>> No, it's not about1:01:59>> It's not about that. I'm saying about1:02:00No, because he just said you shouldn't1:02:02apologize to to the person with the with1:02:04the wrong heart posture because1:02:05>> the center line.1:02:06>> Yeah. And but then he's also saying it's1:02:08like you want to be humble in most1:02:09situations. So, but then it's like1:02:13someone come what if what if you're1:02:14saying what if only half the1:02:15conversation is ready to align with God1:02:17and the other half is going to be1:02:18stubborn.1:02:18>> Yeah. And they walk all over. They're1:02:20just going to know that they're just1:02:22going to think that you're wrong. That's1:02:23>> and they're going to walk over you or1:02:26have a high heart where they're like, I1:02:27just1:02:28>> I get the walk1:02:29>> dominated them.1:02:30>> Yeah. Yeah. [laughter]1:02:32>> Nobody told me that faith would be this1:02:34lonely. I thought when I gave my life to1:02:35God, everything would just click.1:02:37Community, peace, direction. A lot of us1:02:39are out here just trying to figure it1:02:41out alone. Your family thinks it's a1:02:43phase. You go to church on Sunday.1:02:44You're smiling. And then on Monday,1:02:46reality hits and you're back alone in1:02:48your home in your thoughts. I know1:02:50exactly what that's like. I got out of1:02:52prison at the age of 25. I didn't have a1:02:54church home. I didn't have friends. I1:02:56didn't even really have family to back1:02:57me up. I had God. I had a Bible. But1:02:59more importantly than anything, I had a1:03:01pastor who I could lean on to ask1:03:03questions and to just receive mentorship1:03:05and have fellowship with. And the thing1:03:07that changed everything for me wasn't1:03:08just studying alone. It was actually1:03:10having someone I could bring my real1:03:12questions to. Not the Sunday school1:03:13questions, the real ones, the ones that1:03:15keep you up at night. The ones that make1:03:17you feel unworthy because you can't1:03:19figure it out on your own. Therefore,1:03:21you feel as if you're less of a1:03:22Christian. That's why every single1:03:23Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Standard1:03:25Time, I go live inside the Core of the1:03:27Heart Daily app. First, we do a full1:03:29Bible class, real teaching, not that1:03:31surface level stuff. We go super deep.1:03:33You were never supposed to do this1:03:34alone. and now you don't have to Bible1:03:36class every Saturday at 10:00 a.m.1:03:38Pacific Standard Time. Can't wait to see1:03:39you guys there. So through that, um,1:03:42you're able to kind of see at least1:03:44heart posture, right? Like we have to1:03:46look at the heart posture. Okay, if this1:03:48person is only arguing to be right. I1:03:52mean, even if they were narcissistic or1:03:54whatever, like you can leave that up to1:03:55God, too. But like,1:03:56>> let's play the scenario, okay?1:03:58>> Cuz it's happened to you in real life.1:03:59And how did you end it, Johnny? You're1:04:00fake. You never cared about the hood.1:04:01You never cared about us. Yeah. I mean,1:04:04truthfully speaking, like, yeah, I mean,1:04:07you already have your mind made up. So,1:04:10what can I say to like get you I1:04:12wouldn't say I was wrong, but I would be1:04:14like, you know, what you're saying in1:04:16typically speaking and biblically1:04:18speaking is not wrong. So, yeah, you1:04:23guys leaned on me to be like the savior1:04:25for you. You leaned on me to do those1:04:26types of things and I let you down.1:04:28Clearly, I could see that I let you1:04:30down. So, do you guys want to talk about1:04:32that or do you just want to keep getting1:04:34at me foul? Like you you have a choice1:04:36to do whatever you want,1:04:38>> but how you want to handle this, right?1:04:40It's similar to how you handle things,1:04:42>> right? Where it's like that. And I'll be1:04:43honest, that pisses people off cuz1:04:45they'll be like, "Oh, well, what's up1:04:47then? You think you're better than me or1:04:48what? Fool you over here talking about1:04:49that?" Like, "What the hell?" I dude,1:04:52you know how I called you a white guy?1:04:54One of my friends called me a white guy.1:04:56Good. He was literally like, "What's up?1:04:58What happened?" You don't even say foo1:05:00no more. You don't say dog no more. You1:05:02don't say homie no more. You don't say1:05:04blood no more. You sit there fool. You1:05:07over here like, "Oh yeah." And he goes1:05:08in there. And I'm like, "Damn, bro.1:05:10That's how Jeremy feels [laughter]1:05:13legit." I'm sitting here and I'm like1:05:15I'm just articulating my words.1:05:17>> Like what the hell freaking what the1:05:19hell is articulation, fool? Like what1:05:21the heck is that? Like a artifact or1:05:23something? Like they can't1:05:24>> such a mean.1:05:25>> Oh, what's the disc? Like it's just a1:05:27different tax bracket how we speak.1:05:29[laughter]1:05:30Okay.1:05:31>> No, but these guys are rich, too.1:05:33>> I know. They're richer than me.1:05:34>> Yeah, they're rich. But I'm saying like1:05:36they just, you know, you sit there and1:05:38you just kind of like you almost have to1:05:40kind of let them process with you. Look,1:05:43I'm going to be real guys. I do this a1:05:44lot too. Sometimes people are just1:05:47externally processing things. So, you1:05:49can't take everything foul too.1:05:52Questioning especially is not something1:05:55directly like connected to disrespect.1:05:58Sometimes people question cuz they1:06:00genuinely are ignorant versus arrogant.1:06:03Some people don't know, right? So1:06:04they'll question something and [snorts]1:06:06um they don't know that that's like1:06:08could be disrespectful.1:06:10>> So you could be wrong, right? If my1:06:13friends tell me, "Hey, you did this, you1:06:15did this, you switched up." The the one1:06:17thing isn't to go, "I'm so wrong. I'm1:06:18sorry. Forgive me." No. The one thing is1:06:20to go, "All right, I hear what you're1:06:21saying. Could you express to me why,1:06:25right?" But sometimes even that triggers1:06:27people and you better be ready for it.1:06:28That's when you have to be wrong.1:06:29>> What if you go, "I'm sorry I made you1:06:31feel that way." That's another version1:06:33of it. A lot of people say, "I'm sorry I1:06:34made you feel that way." But it that can1:06:36also be like1:06:37>> I would never say, "I'm sorry I made you1:06:38feel that way1:06:39>> because that's kind of like a backhanded1:06:41like apology." I think what you should1:06:44say is, "I didn't know that that made1:06:48you feel that way. I'm sorry for not1:06:50knowing that. Like I messed up because1:06:52you still it's like you messed up, you1:06:54know? Like you have to just take1:06:56accountability. I think Aeron's really1:06:57good at that where he'll be like, I'm1:06:59not trying to disagree with you. Like I1:07:01mean, I'm sorry if I say this and it1:07:03feels like I'm disagreeing with you.1:07:04Like I'm not So it addresses the issue1:07:06like foundationally versus like, sorry,1:07:10you're a little girl.1:07:10>> He says that to me.1:07:12>> No, he doesn't.1:07:13>> Yeah, he straight up says that to me.1:07:15>> Never. [laughter]1:07:19Wait, what was the first line that1:07:21before before I said the sorry and you1:07:23gave the what was the thing like what1:07:25did I make you1:07:26>> what did I say to make you feel that1:07:28way?1:07:28>> I'm really you said like I'm sorry that1:07:30you feel that way.1:07:31>> No, you said one before that before I1:07:32brought1:07:32>> No, I'm saying you said that.1:07:34>> But I'm saying the correct way is to go1:07:36I apologize that I didn't even know like1:07:39>> No, no, no. It was the line even before1:07:40that.1:07:42The what made me bring that up is you1:07:44said something like a lot of times I'll1:07:46say1:07:46>> oh being wrong like it pertain to being1:07:49wrong. Um1:07:51>> damn I'm cut1:07:52>> I'm going to be able to listen back on1:07:53the recording but it was good.1:07:54>> So everybody listen back cuz that was a1:07:57line.1:07:58>> Yeah.1:07:58>> Or that was a bar.1:08:01>> What's that?1:08:02>> I was funny when somebody in the crowd1:08:03they y bars.1:08:04>> Yeah. The dude was like bars. I was like1:08:07wow. Some people are going sheesh1:08:09nowadays too. I'm like, "Dang, I need to1:08:11chill." Other people are like,1:08:12"Understand." Understand?1:08:14>> Yeah.1:08:15>> Makes sense.1:08:16>> You stole some of my lingo.1:08:18>> What was you don't give me no credit.1:08:20>> That's true. Hey, for real. If you guys1:08:23catch me maybe two years ago, I would1:08:25never say, "Here's a thing." Now, I'm1:08:28like, "Here's the thing. Here's a1:08:30thing." Even in my writing, when I'm1:08:32writing, I'm like, "Here's the thing1:08:34that you don't." And I'm like, "Here's1:08:35the thing." I never even talk like that.1:08:37And then I was like, Jeremy, [snorts]1:08:40>> it's your environment of how you speak1:08:42>> 100%. Like I said, if you hang around1:08:43the barber shop long enough, you're1:08:46gonna get a haircut. If you hang around1:08:48bananas, you're going to be a banana.1:08:50You guys know what a banana is? Yellow1:08:52on the outside, white on the inside.1:08:54[laughter]1:08:56>> Hey, you. It's kind of interesting. It1:08:58It feels like you say that as kind of a1:08:59disc while we have two white brethren1:09:02right here.1:09:03>> You are wider than both of them. There's1:09:05no way I'm whiter than Aaron.1:09:07>> Dude, your family is the same. You guys1:09:09are all from Palo Alto. When you when1:09:12they come, if you just close your eyes,1:09:15it's literally like Jeremy Smith. Like,1:09:18it's not Jeremy Kim, [laughter]1:09:20it's Jeremy Smith, right?1:09:23>> That's messed up. Wait, I have a kind of1:09:25a top. Can I go on a side tangent topic?1:09:27>> Yes, please.1:09:28>> Well, do you have anything? You haven't1:09:29said a word, Aaron. Do you have a topic1:09:31prepared for today? No.1:09:34>> Okay. I'm starving.1:09:35>> Okay. Are there a lot of people that go1:09:38to church and hate their pastors?1:09:40>> Oh, facts. I'm one of them. Everybody1:09:42[laughter] in Corridor hate man.1:09:44>> No, no, no. I1:09:46>> No, I'm serious.1:09:47>> That's true. Okay. No, that's what made1:09:49me think of it. There's a lot of people1:09:50that still are in the online community1:09:51and hate you and talk trash on you. So1:09:54funny. And it's funny like they don't1:09:55gossip about you to people that do care1:09:58about you and then are close to you and1:10:00tell you. So,1:10:01>> you know why? Cuz they know.1:10:02>> Okay. But my question is why? Yeah. So,1:10:07so why why do people do that?1:10:09>> Because you're not exalting them.1:10:11>> No, no, no. I'm saying why would you go1:10:13to a church? Why would I go to church if1:10:15I hate the pastor?1:10:16>> Because they secretly love you.1:10:20Have you ever heard that? Your biggest1:10:21haters are just your biggest admirers1:10:24that didn't get attention.1:10:26>> A makes me understand you a little1:10:28better.1:10:29>> No, that's what Aaron said. I stole that1:10:31from Aaron. Oh, Aaron Chang. He doesn't1:10:34even remember him.1:10:34>> He said that before. [laughter]1:10:36>> His face is a dead giveaway.1:10:38>> Aaron's got to put down the pen.1:10:40>> So, are you saying I just admire Osama1:10:42bin Laden? [laughter]1:10:46>> Okay, never mind. Cut, cut, cut, cut,1:10:47cut. No, I'm just kidding. No, I I swear1:10:49you he said that.1:10:52>> Yeah, but explain that. So, he loves a1:10:54little [laughter]1:10:55>> Let me explain to what Aaron believes so1:10:56that Aaron believes it again.1:10:58>> Yeah,1:10:58>> dude. It was basically I forget when but1:11:01I thought I heard it basically yeah your1:11:03biggest hater is usually your biggest1:11:05admirer and some especially in this1:11:07predicament [clears throat] like for1:11:10someone to spend time in your life to1:11:14just come in and just hate on you it's1:11:16like they kind of want1:11:19certain things like why are you like1:11:22I'll give you an example of people who1:11:24are like atheists why do you care so1:11:26much about a god that we believe in that1:11:28you don't believe in. Why do you have to1:11:30go there? Is it just to prove that1:11:31you're right? Sure. But at the same1:11:33time, it's kind of to I feel like1:11:35there's there's hurt or there's trauma1:11:37in there where it's like I was a church1:11:39kid cuz most most people are like PKs or1:11:42they're they're people who've who've1:11:44received church hurt. And I may be1:11:46generalizing a little bit, but from my1:11:47my experience, I've seen that. And it's1:11:49like, why do you even care if someone1:11:51comes I don't care about drones at all.1:11:53When someone's trying to tell me like,1:11:54you know, Chinese drones are not that1:11:56good and blah. I'm not like, "Dude, I1:11:59wow, really? Well, I'm Chinese, you'll1:12:01be like, "Cool. Awesome. Can we talk1:12:03about something else?" Like, I don't1:12:05care about drones, you know? Like, why1:12:07would I get offended? You don't not say1:12:09that about drones. You know how much it1:12:10takes them to build one and how much1:12:12surveillance they do in this world? And1:12:14like, I don't care about that. But1:12:16people do that as atheist. Yeah, your1:12:18god is stupid, huh? He's a sky daddy,1:12:20huh? He thinks he's all that. Like, but1:12:22why would you care? Why are you so1:12:23invested? If I hated somebody, I would1:12:25want nothing to do with them. I would1:12:27not care about anything that they're1:12:28doing in their life. Why are you so like1:12:30invested? So maybe like I don't know,1:12:33food for thought, right? It's like why1:12:35would you do that? So it's the same1:12:37thing. I know why people hate in my1:12:39community cuz they know we spit bars.1:12:41They know that we started off with,1:12:43dang, this guy makes sense to then1:12:45going, "Dang, this guy flipped my1:12:46foundation. He makes too much sense and1:12:48I don't like it anymore." And he called1:12:50me out on that and now I feel like I'm1:12:52not exalted. I feel like you don't care1:12:54about me. You know how much I loved you.1:12:56You know how many hearts I sent on1:12:58Instagram? You know how many like fire1:13:00emojis and flame emojis I sent? And1:13:02you're going to tell me,1:13:03>> right? And it's like, you know how many1:13:05Discord stages? And and cuz they always1:13:07do that when I check them. It's always,1:13:10bro, I love you, bro. I share every all1:13:12of your content with my family. Like,1:13:13why are you doing this to me? Yeah,1:13:15that's the problem. You love me so much1:13:17that you love me for me. You don't love1:13:19me for Jesus. That's the problem. You1:13:21see it as like Johnny. And then when1:13:23Johnny don't live up to your standards1:13:25and Johnny tells you something, you1:13:27don't see it as Jesus and God and Holy1:13:29Spirit correcting you. You see it as1:13:30Johnny correcting you and then you feel1:13:32some type of way. Johnny don't do that1:13:34to me. It's like I love you so much.1:13:36It's like bro, you're literally sitting1:13:38there idolizing me and I don't like1:13:41that.1:13:42>> Right. I also think a lot of people1:13:44might hate on you or just like emotions1:13:46are just like super high in religion1:13:48because everything is like life and1:13:49death. Like if you say something, it's1:13:51just like the difference between life1:13:52and death for some people. That's why1:13:54emotions get so high on the road, at1:13:56least why I road rage is because when1:13:58you're driving at 65 mph, the smallest1:14:00thing mistake could kill you.1:14:02>> So if someone cuts you off, you're1:14:04really quick to be like, "What the heck?1:14:06You almost killed me." Like you like1:14:08it's all life and death. And I think1:14:09with religion,1:14:10>> a lot of people treat a lot of their1:14:12their religious views as literally life1:14:14and death. And when you say something1:14:16that might imply death,1:14:18>> they throw their hands up and they're1:14:19over it instantly. You're so mean.1:14:22>> Me?1:14:22>> Yeah.1:14:23>> Yeah. But I'm not I'm not life and death1:14:25when I drive the car.1:14:27>> I'm just like, "Don't hit my car."1:14:29>> Well, most1:14:29>> It's a nice car.1:14:30>> That's all a very interesting thing.1:14:32It's like you don't realize. Your brain1:14:33realizes you're in danger. But we're1:14:35like1:14:36>> talking. He's playing Pokémon Go. I1:14:39remember he he was driving while filming1:14:42and like tailgating somebody like1:14:44filming the scenery,1:14:46changing the song. I was just like,1:14:48"Dude, this is no good." [laughter]1:14:51>> But yeah, I just think a lot of people1:14:53like take their religious views as life1:14:55and death. Like, if I think things, I1:14:57will get into heaven. If I do certain1:14:58things, I will go to hell. And it's like1:15:00when you say something that someone1:15:01might perceive now, I'm going to go to1:15:03hell. Of course, they're going to hate1:15:04you or be mad at you or disagree with1:15:06you.1:15:07I totally butchered Aaron's thing. Aaron1:15:10was going the opposite of that.1:15:11[laughter] He used the Hitler analogy.1:15:14>> What?1:15:15>> He was like, so he's like, you know how1:15:17I kind of have an issue. It was on one1:15:18of the episodes like I have an issue1:15:20with people saying haters are your like1:15:21biggest admirers because what? So then1:15:23do I admire Hitler? [laughter]1:15:26>> I remember that. Okay, so never mind.1:15:28I'm I'm I'm dumb.1:15:29>> It was a just literally completely1:15:33butchered it.1:15:33>> I stole that from this creator, Tana.1:15:35She had like Matt Reefe on her show1:15:38>> and Matt Re's like you like you're1:15:40getting a lot of hate lately. And Matt1:15:41Re is like anyone who hates like your1:15:42biggest haters are just jealous. Like1:15:44I'm convinced anyone who hates me is1:15:45just jealous. And she's like am I1:15:46jealous of Osama bin Laden? [laughter]1:15:48>> It's like oh crap maybe hate is not all1:15:50jealousy.1:15:51>> No, but some hate is projection1:15:52>> for sure. A lot of it is.1:15:54>> Yeah. I'm happy with themselves and like1:15:56>> I get what he was saying. But1:15:58>> especially when it's other pastors being1:16:02like why is he famous? pastors. A lot of1:16:06people, and I'm not trying to be mean,1:16:08but I experienced this a lot. Pastors1:16:10and people from that life always, for1:16:13some reason, make it like a thing to1:16:17tell me that not only did they live my1:16:19life, but they lived probably a crazier1:16:23life than me. And I don't understand1:16:26that. Like, I I I've never led with1:16:29like, "Oh, I see a gang member." Like,1:16:31"Hey, homie, me too." Like [laughter]1:16:34like that's not I don't1:16:35>> Me two times 10.1:16:36>> Yeah, me too. But like what yard were1:16:38you on? Oh, I was on a four yard. You1:16:39were on a two yard. Oh, no.1:16:41>> Like I don't I don't know. I I just sit1:16:44there and and I don't even know how to1:16:45respond to that.1:16:46>> I've heard it so many times sitting in a1:16:48room.1:16:48>> Yeah.1:16:49>> Yeah.1:16:49>> They always come and they always go,1:16:50"Dude, like I live like you but way1:16:54crazier." And I'm like,1:16:57>> "Good job. Awesome." I don't know how1:17:00to, you know, respond. Again, it's like1:17:02we talked about it's just like they want1:17:03to be on your level or they want they1:17:05don't want they don't want to get little1:17:07broad in their own church. They want you1:17:08to speak to them like they understand1:17:10your experience and they may not. But1:17:12they're they're honestly taking your own1:17:14advice by leading with their testimony.1:17:16And it's kind of like they're hoping1:17:17that it's a way to open to get you to1:17:20open up to them. Oh, maybe he'll1:17:22understand me. Maybe I'll maybe he'll1:17:24get that I understand him because I've1:17:26been through it. When people just do it1:17:28too harsh, they're like1:17:29>> way harder than you. It's like, okay,1:17:30that's such a heart closing line. It's1:17:32like,1:17:32>> yeah, true. Yeah, facts though. No, it1:17:35makes sense. It it it is obviously,1:17:37jokes aside, they do want to, you know,1:17:40sit there and and relate to me, right?1:17:42But that also makes me sad cuz like you1:17:45shouldn't relate to me because of my1:17:46testimony. You should relate to me1:17:47because we both have Jesus Christ. Like1:17:50if you can lead with that, that's how I1:17:52was able to relate to them. I don't know1:17:54a lot of these pastors that host us and1:17:56I and a lot of them didn't live that1:17:58lifestyle. A lot of them did, but the1:18:00ones who didn't like straight up were1:18:03like PKs, but we're like, "Hey, man. One1:18:05kingdom, one body." They're like, "Yeah,1:18:07amen, bro." And it's just it's it's cool1:18:09that to relate on that level versus like1:18:12street level, you know, hood level.1:18:14People always be doing that, you know?1:18:16And I'm like, "Yo, I don't ever tell1:18:18other people, "Hey, homie, I live that1:18:20life, too." I mean, I don't need to.1:18:22They just look at me and be like, "This1:18:23guy's either a chef,1:18:26>> tattoo artist, or a freaking broke gang1:18:29member, you know?" It's like, but yeah,1:18:31I I just never felt I don't know. I felt1:18:34I felt embarrassed a lot of times1:18:36talking about my past.1:18:38>> I think people with real past trauma1:18:40who've really done crazy things, I've1:18:42noticed this on the yards, too. When I1:18:44would walk on prisons, general1:18:45population,1:18:47[clears throat]1:18:48the craziest people are the ones that1:18:50they and they they never talk about1:18:51their stories. Like, what you in for OG?1:18:53Like, oh, you know, just Yeah, I'm just1:18:56in like they never talk about. I was in1:18:59for a hot one. And it's always like the1:19:00the the ones who bow. So, yeah, I was on1:19:03a hot one, man. I shot boom boom boom1:19:05boom boom boom number. And I'm just1:19:07like, dude,1:19:07>> sold your boy on blat TV.1:19:09>> Yeah. Bow pow.1:19:12So funny. But basically, you know, when1:19:14I see that, it's so true because you're1:19:17ashamed of it. One of my friends, our1:19:20mutual friends recently told me like1:19:23somebody didn't want to come to our1:19:24church basically because [clears throat]1:19:27I had pew pewed their friend1:19:31basically allegedly. And I when I1:19:33thought about that immediately I felt1:19:35like oh man like it was just a weird1:19:38like uh like I was like who who was it?1:19:41Like I wanted to know who it was, but1:19:43like for me to even ask who it was also1:19:46made me feel ashamed like dang like I1:19:49didn't even know who like you know it's1:19:51like it's like that many basically right1:19:55so I felt like oh my gosh and I felt1:19:57very very sad uh in my heart and I was1:19:59like ah like so I don't understand when1:20:01people who really went through it you1:20:03you either got to be really psycho or1:20:06you just like only care about the clout.1:20:08I I guess people are get a lot of clout1:20:10nowadays for catching bodies and stuff,1:20:12but I am from an era where you you1:20:14either catch a body or you be a body,1:20:16right? It's just how it is. 90s, early1:20:182000s genuinely [clears throat] was1:20:20crazy. But I've never seen people boast1:20:23about it like this generation. It was1:20:26always like hush hush like bro that dude1:20:29did that? No way. That was more like I1:20:32guess gangster to be like this guy this1:20:34guy did no way he doesn't look like it.1:20:37That that to me back then was kind of1:20:39crazy. And I realized this because they1:20:40would hide behind it. They don't want1:20:42people to know that they did stuff like1:20:43that. They don't their families would be1:20:46shocked like you did this. No way. My1:20:48son, it was like this. My mom was the1:20:50same when she saw that, you know, I was1:20:53I was from this gang. And she was like,1:20:55"What? Like these guys are straight1:20:57killers. They really do evil things.1:20:59They terrorize the community." And he's1:21:02part of it. He's a kid. They don't let1:21:04kids into gangs, right? And then they1:21:06were like showing me out what colors I1:21:08was wearing. They were showing all this1:21:09stuff. And my mom was blown away like1:21:12whoa. Cuz the homies would tell us don't1:21:14let any of your family members don't let1:21:16nobody know. Just your enemies need to1:21:18know where you're from. No one else1:21:19needs. Your teachers don't need to know1:21:20where you're from. Nobody. So it was1:21:22kind of crazy1:21:23>> crazy.1:21:25>> I was going to say sometimes I can1:21:26relate to those pastors deeply because1:21:28like it's like sometimes you just want1:21:31someone to know you're legit. And1:21:32honestly, I don't care as much anymore.1:21:33And sometimes like you just let the work1:21:35speak for itself. And especially with1:21:36you, I mean, everyone knows who you are.1:21:38>> But it's like1:21:39>> back in the day, let's say I was opening1:21:41for a DJ1:21:42>> and I just wanted them to know I'm not1:21:44some just like loser frack opening for1:21:46you. It's like I did La Palooa, I did1:21:48like I want them to know I'm legit. You1:21:49could speak to me like a peer.1:21:50>> And like I don't care so much anymore,1:21:52but it's like if someone's in front of1:21:53you talking about they did X, Y, and Z.1:21:54You want them to know like I did A, B,1:21:56and C. Sometimes even bigger. And that's1:21:58where these pastors are coming from1:21:59where they're just like1:22:01>> that's fair. They just want you to think1:22:02they're legit. It's like they really1:22:03just want your approval, which like I1:22:05can relate to in a lot of ways.1:22:07>> Um, so I also feel bad. And like it's1:22:10way different with gang stuff cuz it's1:22:11like1:22:12>> versus the stuff that I may have been1:22:14proud of. Some people might not be proud1:22:15of their past, but it's still just like1:22:16I want this person to know I'm legit.1:22:19>> And um,1:22:20>> true.1:22:20>> I'm still victim to that sometimes. So1:22:23>> yeah,1:22:24>> dude. I have a random1:22:25>> That's fair.1:22:26>> I have a random silly topic.1:22:27>> Run it.1:22:29uh three different people when when I1:22:31went to No, it was it was kind of I1:22:34think it was at Oakland also San Jose1:22:36multiple times. One person was like,1:22:38"No, no, no. There's a couple different1:22:40things that happened to me and each time1:22:42happened three or four times in each of1:22:43these categories. One was, "Dude, I just1:22:46saw Aaron. What was your name? Uh let me1:22:49get a picture with you. Uh what's your1:22:51me?"1:22:52>> Yeah, they knew Aaron, but they didn't1:22:54know me. That happened to me multiple1:22:55times. How is that possible?1:22:56>> I'm the star of the show. Exactly.1:22:59>> No, I'm always grilling you and1:23:01>> I know. Exactly. It was But it happened1:23:03multiple times and I'm like, am I in1:23:04some kind of I'm the star of the show.1:23:07Wait, do we need to rename the show1:23:08Unlearn Wisdom with Johnny Chang and1:23:11Jeremy? [laughter] Do I need to get my1:23:13face on the cover? Hey guys, by the way,1:23:15hey, when he does the intro, he's gonna1:23:17be like with Pastor John Ch and Jeremy.1:23:19[laughter]1:23:20David Jeremy the the white guy. The1:23:22other white guy.1:23:22>> Feel better. I had a lot of people call1:23:24me Jeremy. They'd be like, "Jeremy,1:23:26Jeremy, Jeremy."1:23:28I would just be like, "Yeah, what's up?"1:23:29Cuz like I know what they mean.1:23:31>> Do we just sound the same? Okay. The1:23:33other one The other one that I got was1:23:35>> one guy was like, "Yo, you're not that1:23:37fat."1:23:38>> And another funny.1:23:39>> Yeah. Yeah. No. And another one was1:23:41like, "Dude, you're like you're not1:23:43ugly." He was like, [laughter] he's1:23:44like, "You're not ugly. You're like1:23:46pretty good-looking." And I was like,1:23:47"What do you mean pretty? What? What is1:23:49it?" Did you tell them that lying is is1:23:51against is a sin1:23:53>> when they said that?1:23:55>> Why would I Why would I tell them?1:23:56>> Remember when we talked about lying just1:23:58to make people feel better?1:23:59>> Yeah.1:24:00>> Yeah. Basically, everyone gave me1:24:02backhanded com. One other person was1:24:04like, [laughter] "Yeah." They were like,1:24:05"Whoa, you look a lot better in person."1:24:08I was like, "Who said that, bro? Why1:24:10didn't you just1:24:12>> No, I swear it was all dudes.1:24:14>> They always say the nicest stuff to me.1:24:16They're like, "You're way taller." like1:24:18they were just like, "Hey, you're not a1:24:20just fat stumpy troll." [laughter]1:24:24>> One girl's funny. She's like, she's1:24:25like, "You sound Asian to me. You don't1:24:27sound white." I was like, "What that1:24:30mean?" [laughter]1:24:31>> I was like, "I'm proud of my proper1:24:34annunciation." Okay.1:24:37I just got like weird backhanded1:24:39compliments all weekend.1:24:40>> That's so funny.1:24:41>> I'm just mad at you, Jeremy.1:24:43>> I get nothing but good compliments.1:24:45>> Really?1:24:45>> Yeah. I've had that compliment a lot1:24:47where they're like, "Wow, you're1:24:49actually bigger than like what we1:24:51thought.1:24:52>> You look like uh Yeah, you give off 531:24:55energy."1:24:56>> That's crazy.1:24:57>> Yeah,1:24:58>> that that like there's people even we're1:24:59eating I forgot where we're eating like1:25:01Somi Somi or something. One of those ice1:25:03cream spots and someone came and was1:25:05like, "Yeah, I thought you were 53."1:25:08Like cuz Oh, cuz I would say it.1:25:10>> Yeah, you'd say it. But they were and I1:25:11was troll obviously but they would be1:25:13[clears throat] like how did you make it1:25:15through prison if you were 53.1:25:16[laughter]1:25:18She's like [clears throat] I knew you1:25:19weren't that small like and I was just1:25:21like damn some people really do believe1:25:23in what we be saying bro.1:25:24>> Yeah.1:25:25>> It's all jokes man day in prison.1:25:29>> 68 I have an eight pack.1:25:31>> Eight pack. Yeah.1:25:34>> But I'm not going to be prideful and1:25:36show off my eight pack. though.1:25:38>> Yo, your sister showed us a photo of you1:25:41when you were ripped.1:25:42>> Yeah. Yeah. When I was younger.1:25:44>> Did you see that?1:25:45>> You did have an eight.1:25:46>> I literally was like black though. I was1:25:50>> dark as heck, bro.1:25:51>> Dark way darker than you. [laughter]1:25:54>> Way darker than you.1:25:56>> I looked like n like people thought I1:25:58was Native American. You did. Or they1:26:00thought I was like Yeah. Or like like a1:26:02like a jungle Filipino though.1:26:04[laughter]1:26:04>> Yeah.1:26:04>> You know what I'm saying?1:26:05>> Like a real Filipino.1:26:06>> No. No. Like the ones that are like out1:26:09in the sun, no shirt, fisherman,1:26:11Filipino.1:26:11>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.1:26:12>> There's people like that in Thailand,1:26:14too.1:26:14>> Yep. Yep. Yep.1:26:15>> Where they go like bullcow.1:26:16>> Yeah.1:26:17>> Bullow's like1:26:18>> bow.1:26:19>> Yeah.1:26:19>> Yeah.1:26:20>> I was like, bullcow looks black. And I1:26:22was looks blazian.1:26:24>> Bow.1:26:25>> Bull.1:26:26>> You mean Macau?1:26:27>> No. Bull cow.1:26:28>> Where is Bcow?1:26:29>> B UA. No. No. Bucow the fighter.1:26:31>> Oh, Bow. Oh, that dude. Yeah. Yeah.1:26:34Yeah.1:26:34>> Yeah. He looks black. He looks blazian.1:26:36Yeah, he's tie.1:26:37>> Yeah.1:26:38>> Yeah.1:26:39>> All right, guys. Well,1:26:40>> good. Good. So, like every1:29:16episode, we finish with prayer. It's1:29:18very important. So, let us bow our heads1:29:20and let us pray. Father God, thank you1:29:23so much. Truly, Lord, [sighs] you're so1:29:25powerful. Lord, you teach us truly how1:29:27to overcome every single thought that we1:29:30have, every single judgment that we1:29:32have. And this episode is no different.1:29:34You teach us how to not only convince1:29:37people to see Jesus in us and make us1:29:39less than and make you greater than, but1:29:41you also teach us how to deal with1:29:42judgment, Father God, from especially1:29:45unrighteous judgment from people who are1:29:47self-righteous Christians. Lord, I ask1:29:50[clears throat] that you help anybody1:29:51who's facing persecution. And a lot of1:29:54the times we think persecution is trials1:29:55and tribulations. It's something that's1:29:57really deep and hurtful. But many times1:30:00it's just little jabs. It's just little1:30:01judgments. It's little uh criticisms1:30:04from our family members. And that really1:30:07hurts us, Lord. So please uh please1:30:09allow us, Father God, to overcome that1:30:11as well to know that you've already1:30:14given us eternal judgment. And that1:30:16judgment was righteous finished at the1:30:19cross, Lord. That we're perfected1:30:21forever. that we're holy because of you1:30:23and not because of us. And that we Yes,1:30:25although we receive persecution and1:30:27judgment. It's nothing compared to the1:30:29fruits in heaven. Father God, thank you.1:30:32We leave everything in your hands, Lord.1:30:33And in Jesus name we pray. Amen.1:30:36>> Amen.1:30:37>> Amen.1:30:38Subscribe.
